NYU Grad student perspective here; I did undergrad at two universities, one which was a commuter campus, and another in where the campus was the whole little town. NYU definitely feels different, the whole “no campus” thing is very true. Most students are commuters, which changes the feel of the school a lot. Washington square park is the designated Quad, but it’s also in NYC and there is a whole non-NYU community that is also a part of it. The campus is also really big, some buildings are VERY spread out. I have classes that are a metro stop apart. I’m almost 1000% sure that the undergraduate freshmen have a different experience for the most part though!

My daughter just started NYU a s freshman. She got a full scholarship, but as part of that, she was required to do a pre-college semester over the summer. So she moved into Lipton Hall on July 1st. I'm a non-custodial dad, so we're pretty alienated from each other. Plus, I live on the West Coast. To combat that, I asked her to vlog and share her life, but she's not the type, and she's been way too busy to even send texts and photos. So I looked for vlogs from other students about Lipton Hall and discovered you (among others)! So, thanks! I've learned a lot and really enjoy your candidness and awesome editing style and your crazy manic, sometimes shocking but real yet tongue in cheek content. You're f'ng awesome!

am I planning on going to nyu? no. do i want to go to nyu? no. am i still here? yes.

No school spirit is important though as people go to NYU and then they forget about it or they have a negative experience and don't want to help alumni. When you email alumni, they won't respond at all or don't offer any help. It is better to go to a school with an athletics program. I went to NYU as I wasn't really into Sports when I was younger and growing up in a small town I thought going to NYU would broaden my horizons. It did but in some negative ways, one way is that if people don't like you will let you know it. I was roommates with this rich kid who only cared about himself. There are other dorms that don't have air conditioning, such as Weinstein and Brittany. I agree with you as there weren't many people to choose from in the small town I grew up in. Its good that you knew someone who was also going to NYU, that definitely helps.
