saw a w9 for sale on Craigslist for $28k, 3 weeks later this same truck came up for sale at Ohio truck sales for $65k. with that kind of mark-up, I'm sure they can put some extra money into every truck other than just a paint job
Bought my 2014 Pete 389 back in March from them and I have not had one problem with it since. Granted it was the newest model truck on the lot at the time. I did have them change the starter before I signed the paperwork as it had intermittent start issues but other than that I’m happy with my purchase.
You are correct, any used truck will definitely have issues. I recently bought a 2012 Peterbilt 388, I got it for $32,500.00 and to get it up to my standards, I spent another $40,000.00 and I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. I was able to pay cash for everything, and I have a good running truck with only 385k miles on the frame and engine. The truck came from Canada, and was an oilfield truck, with a lot of hours on the engine, and has already made all the money I spent on it back, in four months. I would advise drivers to not finance equipment if possible, but that is not something everyone can do. I have actually been looking to purchase another truck after the first of the year, and I've been looking at some of what Ohio Truck Sales has, so i appreciate your video. My condolences on the loss of your mom, i lost my mom two years ago on mother's day, and I miss her wisdom and encouragement every day. Good luck in your trucking adventures.
Congratulations on the new purchase, and congrats on your first thanksgivings with the new baby…… when you get a chance could make a video about PDP? The hiring process, getting your truck inspected, orientation process, and any other helpful info that would help someone considering to make the move to them, as well as your experience and personal opinion about them?
I bought my pete 379 then over a year ago. I have only had 1 issue other then wearing out the tires and that was replacing the turbo. Ill go back for another again make sure you do your homework and know more then the name on the truck. Congrats on your truck
Well said. And sorry for your lose. Stay strong brother. God Speed. Have you name your truck. My cousin has a 06 379. It’s a light purple. Calls it Plum Tickle. Don’t ask me why 🤷🏻♂️
I’m saving to get a Pete from OTS. And I’m already planning in my head to do at least an inframe soon as I get the truck. Not to mention, I also wanna take a mechanic with me to overlook and test drive with me. It’s like you said, due diligence must be done.
Bottom line be prepared to spend another 10-15k on basic things to make the truck road worthy to pass a DOT inspection. Then be prepared to go into major repairs and have at least twice the money to in frame overhaul the truck, work on the drive line, etc 25k would be minimum but I would say have access to _40-50k so you can get through the first year and work through the problems you will have. I have bought several from them and basically because I can go to ONE location and see a hundred trucks without traveling all over the country...I realize I will be taking on problems it's just finding one I can work with by weeding out the worst ones that aren't worth it...my salesman was pretty cool I trust him as much as I could any salesman.
I believe so. I personally didn’t, maybe that’s a mistake lol. But I’m fairly competent in knowing what to look at, also I took it straight to my shop from the dealer and they were impressed at how good of shape it’s in. Couldn’t find anything seriously wrong.
Paint jobs aint cheap either! I bought mine there and does it have issues....yeah. is it the dealerships fault? I traded my 579 in there and it had its issues too, the whole thing is a game. They're USED trucks!
Oh I agree. I saw it when I tried trading my Cascadia in. Nobody wanted to give me more for trade on my Cascadia than it would have been worth on trade 2 years ago with similar miles, yet they (all the dealers) turn around and sell it for 3 times it’s value 2 years ago. It’s crazy.
I went to Ohio truck sales last week and I can say no way I'm not buying anything from them. The trucks are junk. They have time to put effort in the trucks. They didn't even line the damn hoods up. I have cash im not looking to finance anything.
i have a truck from them that i got back in may there shady check that paperwork they give you for any overhaul ive had to put a nice amount of money into they truck like hes saying there old million mile trucks so expect to have to deff put some money into it
Unfortunately there’s not much to negotiate. You can try, but it’s really a sellers market right now and they know if you don’t buy it, someone else will tomorrow.
Not yet. I wanna get down to Joplin and see if they have the one I’m looking for. I80 had it on their shelf but none in stock🙄. It’s a dark matte wood with satin black spokes. Love the way that unfinished wood felt.
I don’t think anyone is arguing you are buying a used truck. The issue with that dealer is they lie. From producing fake paperwork, like overhauls, trans rebuild, or rears. Back in 2017 I made a phone call to them looking at a 92 peterbilt they had online. Asked a bunch of questions and asked if I made the 6hr trip up to them if I could test drive it. Was told yes and given their business hours. So my wife, kids and I made the 6hr trip up there. When we arrived we found all of the drive tires had been removed so the truck couldn’t be driven. On top of that the engine had a fresh DuPont rattle can overhaul, and smoked bad. Along with the air horns being removed from the roof and holes not sealed. Frame needed replaced and a bunch of other minor used truck misc things. Had the dealer been upfront with me and told me not to come up I’d of been fine with that. But he lied to me and misrepresented a truck that looked nothing like the online photos. This salesman also found me on Facebook a few years later bashing him and tried to lie again. It was then I showed pics and how the truck really was, that he shut up and disappeared
Went through a sorta loaner brokerage called Armada Credit group and they specialize in finding financing for these older trucks. They set me up with 1st business bank. Didn’t have any issues getting the loan with them.
Did you look at that big Pete sleeper 06 black with stripes? I was thinking about buying it...talked to them... but they are marketed up 20 to 30 % in this market.
You guys will never learn. You get a Cat and you get 5 mpg. Just about every other engine 7 8 9. Plus is a old truck and it’s going to cost money every week.
Do you think I bought it not knowing that stuff? I’m actually getting mid 6 mpg with mine, though. Better than I expected and planned for. I’m just done with emissions crap like DPF or DEF.
I really hope all goes well bro I know a few guys that bought trucks from them and have horror stories. May God watch over you and bring you much success!!
Most of the bad reviews or bad word of mouth on Ohio Truck is the big hood wannabes that all they look at is a big Pete or W9. You have to do lots of research and know what you are looking at or looking for. As he said also these trucks are old but they are also in HUGE demand. Just think about all these poor guys who have bought these wonderful "Gently" used late model egr,def trucks. By the time you fix a variable geometry turbo for 7 to 9 thousand bucks, then a set of 9 thousand dollar injectors, then the DOC,DPF that got loaded with oil or fuel after the turbo or injector failure then the labor you could of totally rebuilt and put a new clutch in a C-15 Caterpillar and have 10 times the truck. Like I say I speak from experience I just bought a 2005 379 from them (6 months ago) did my research on the rebuild with head and new turbo and it all checked out so I bought it! I've replaced tires and had a " little tuneing" done and have had no problems with it!! Also good news if you do have problems you ain't gonna get the dreaded red check engine derate light, and getting a cat,or older cummins or even a driptroit worked on is simple and you have several options of who works on it and no magical computer wizardry to fix it. I highly recommend if you are gonna run your own truck do one of two things- either buy a brand new truck and trade every three years and make a 3,000 plus dollar a month payment until you quit trucking. Or go buy you a decent shape older truck get her all fixed up and to your liking go trucking and make money, just save some for that rainy day roll in somewhere get your non pollution issue fixed and KEEP ON TRUCKIN!!!! Just my view after 24 years owner operator with my own authority and contracts.
Those of us that know what value these trucks have, already understand. As for the rest...we don't value their opinions anyway!!! #LongLiveTheHoods Real Truckers get it!!! My condolences for your Mother.🌹🌹🌹
Best explanation of Ohio truck sales... they should pay you!!! Yep, if u want a good older truck Ohio is where you go... then get ready to spend 20 grand to get a 2002 truck truly road ready. Your exactly right
Buyer Beware they used to say , always do your homework on used trucks and take your time and think it through also sorry about your mom mine passed in May it sucks
What your talking about is above most peoples head. They want brand new 20 year old trucks with 0 issues for under a 80k. Not to mention most people don’t take proper care of their stuff
Hey congratulations on your truck, looks good. How long is your truck being financed for? What is your payment? Ballpark no exacts. If you don't mind me asking. I am not trying to butt in your business. I'm just putting figures down on paper. You see I have a 2013 pete with Cummins I don't like. I want a caterpillar in it. So I am looking at possibilities.
Buying a used Truck. Then it will have some problems for sure, two key points " Get the truck checked out by an independent technician first" there are mobile technicians who do this every day. If the sales company do not let you have it checked out then move on. But the key issue is ignore whatever you are told about the truck, dealers will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to buy the truck. So if it is the one you want make sure you have money to do any major repairs. Best of luck 🤞
I’ve seen some good trucks there, I said once I purchase any truck as long as I can get 1 year in with no major breakdown I want to do an inframe myself then know I have the history from there out. Anyone thinking an older truck won’t ever break shouldn’t be an owner operator
Regardless of anything. Never make excuses for what someone didn't or wont do. If they're not checking something and said they did " they lied"..! And if you want something hell you want it. Who cares what anyone thinks. I wish you well fellow trucker..! MAKE DAT MONEY 💰..!
Ohio truck sales are crooks I bought a W900L from them and 3 weeks later it burned to the ground that's when I found out the truck was a basket case the frame had 1 vin number and the cab had a completely different vin number and the insurance company refused to pay the claim I had to sue them with the finance company to get them to pay for the truck and the finance company quit doing business with them because they found several other trucks on there lot that had multiple vin numbers that's when State of Ohio got involved in it do your homework and check the frame vin with the title and cab vin number
I’m on the fence about purchasing from Ohio truck sales because of stuff I’ve heard and read, but will probably go check them out anyway. First hand knowledge is better than hearsay 👍🏼
I appreciate you taking the time and making these videos on Ohio Truck Sales. I feel somewhat better now, knowing that I won’t be going in completely blind. Thank you👍🏼
Congratulations for new truck!! And Happy New Year!! I like your point of view on this subject. I'm also going to Ohio truck sales may be next week sometimes. I really need one because my Pete 386 2012 is giving me DPF issues. Im probably going to sell it.
@@bebecksingh1078 Bro thanks for heads-up. I was ready to go there then change my mind. But I really appreciate you send this message to me. But I also wish whoever buy from them, their trucks really make them good money.
🎉Theres an old adage I was always told when buying a used vehicle and would apply to trucks also "When you buy a used vehicle , your buying someone elses problems " because that vehicle still looks nice its most likely becoming a money pit or some electrical issue etc.. that was too costly to fix.
Isn't the reality of all used truck dealers most of the trucks that are sold at these truck dealers came from a auction yard? Typically they will generally double the price they pay at auction when they bring it to their used truck dealers yard? Why not just go to the auction yard and look at several before the auction time then attend the auction and purchase a truck at the auction. The reality is that you will pay less than half of what the used truck dealers will sell a truck for. One word of caution don't buy a truck at auction unless you have mechanical knowledge or have a mechanical person with you when inspecting trucks. When you buy it you will own it you can't take it back. In any case do your homework and think long and hard before buying a used truck from a used truck dealer that purchased the thick you are considering buying at an auction. It just doesn't make any sense?
@@survivetothrive21 at first i was not going to buy a truck from ohio truck sale but after seeing you video it all maid since what you were saying i maid it to houston tx with out braking down when i got there i put it in the shop replace 2 leaking wheel seals all the filters and oil and replaced a bad a/c line and that. was it if you do your research you can come out of there with a good truck
@@mdevarwreinsryrp4r1j yes sir! Congrats on it man! Yea mine had a wheel seal or two I needed to replace too when I first got it. Along with the full PM. Glad it’s working out for you!
It’s best said this way. Educate yourself when it comes to trucks. When you are buying used it’s used. Don’t believe anything anyone tells you. And survey the truck if anyone does not let you do that walk away.
Oh, that’s just sitting there on the power window toggle switches lol. Still looking for a sufficient way to more permanently mount it in here myself. Sits on my seat for the time being which I know is a no no for DOT since my logs are on there lol.
Great video. A lot folks get the idea that because they’re buying one of these trucks. That at least they’re dodging the emissions garbage. Which is true. But there maybe other issues to deal with. Guess pick your battle. I personally would still take an older truck over a new truck any day….
That’s exactly true. There’s always going to be problems. But I feel like problems with these older trucks, though can be costly, are easier to diagnose and fix. I always felt like I was constantly chasing my tail with the emissions on my previous truck, a 15 cascadia.
What would be a reasonable finance charge for a semi? I bought mine cash but my Dream truck would be a long hood…… but I don’t have any adía what is a fare financing num. Thanks
There’s quite a few variables to take into consideration. Credit score. How long you’ve owned your business. How many trucks you currently have or have had. Things like that. This was the second truck I ever bought, I have a 810 credit score, I’ve been in business for about 3.5 years. My rate was mid 7%.
Beautiful truck. Did you specifically want a 379? Im looking at a 389, is there anything you know about the 389 that I dont? I really know nothing, I hear good things about the Pete's, Im wanting the warranty. Do you think it's a good idea to get a extended warranty?
I wanted the 379 over a 389 mostly due to the emissions. The 379 has far fewer emissions to go wrong, where as the 389 sill have a DPF, depending on the year, DEF, things of that sort, and those systems are what I had constant troubles with on my last truck, and they’re quite problematic across the board. As far as an aftermarket extended warranty, that’s tough. Unless it’s a manufacturer warranty directly through paccar, they typically look for a reason NOT to pay for a repair. But SOMETIMES they will pay out.
Well looked over 178 trucks at this place today. Walked right out. Lipstick on a pig is a understatement!. Nothing but junk!. Bought a nice truck in Indiana half the price, twice as nice.
I bought my 04 Freightliner Classic Xl in 2013 for $3000 less then your down payment and i have run it for 9 years and only changed two injectors in my 14 l detroit... sometimes the cheaper truck is the best truck, i paid it off in a year and pure profits after that... i have over half a million miles on it in those years and still runs like a beast
The market in 2013 was night and day to the current market, unfortunately. But those Detroit’s are an amazing engine. I don’t understand why they aren’t worth more even today.
It all depends on your use. If you don’t know where you’re going from day to day, you don’t want a big giant sleeper truck. You won’t be able to get into half the docks.
Figure out how much you want to spend for a truck overall, subtract about $20 Large to get it right, and that tells you how much to spend on your purchase. But that's true at ANY dealership. Buying from an individual might give you better insight into the truck's history, maintenance records, etc.
Lol, honestly before I saw the truck in person, this steering wheel was the sole reason I wasn’t too interested in this truck lol. But it’s a good thing they’re easy to replace lol.
