I saw Tommy Tune and Charles "Honi" Coles perform this in LA when I was a young man, and the audience gave them a standing ovation that lasted so long they had to do like, 8 or 9 reprisals right in the middle of the show! It was phenomenal. I have never seen anything like that since.
My Dad took us to see my One and Only Way on Broadway back in the early 1980s and we saw this tap dance between Tommy and Honi. So beautiful, the memory has enchanted me ever since.
What an honor and thrill to see these two icons together. I never had the privilege of seeing them in live performance. Legendary indeed. Thank you so much. In his memoir, Mr Tune made it obvious that he respected Mr Coles deeply.
Ditto me......I saw the show about 8 times, 6 in L.A. and 2 in Frisco, including his 1000th performance (in Frisco.) Then Mayor Feinstein and Carol Channing came on stage after the show to honor that feat. I snuck a little cassette tape recorder into the theater and recorded the direct line TV sound mics.' offstage comments and regular songs. I guess I lucked out....funny to hear what Lucie Arnaz and Prince Nikki were yakking about between takes.
Dedicating this to my very beloved fostermom & her sister, Mrs. Bennie Fields & Mrs. Elma Bateman, for introducing me to arts & culture!! Continue RIHP Arts & Culrure Empresses!! Eternally thanking them for all of their love, support & encouragement & wisdom throughout my life!! 💘 ✝ 😍 👼 📖
Beautifully done. First time I've seen Tommy Tune when he didn't so tall as to look deformed. Not sure if it's the suit or the fact that Coles is also tall.
