Thanks, Hugo! I'd be interested to learn more about how you aligned the shots for the "Portuguese" motion control... was it all 2D alignments, retimes, or a different Portuguese secret?

Curious, you say you get your grids for lens and cameras at the rental house. Who foots the bill for that? how does that work?
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 6 лет назад
Well, depends on how big the job is. if it is a huge production with many lens and cameras then it is worth renting a day at the company because filming all Grids, FStops, ISO and grain plates could take a long time. For smaller shoots I film them in the set.

still waiting about my questions about pricing, maybe is a good idea to make a video about fees, pricing and cost of VFX, 3D and compositing. what is better ,value based fee or time based fee?
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 6 лет назад
It’s a great idea to make a video about how to properly charge for your work. Thanks for the suggestion
@leonardoatlas7544
@leonardoatlas7544 6 лет назад
i am waiting for the video. there are thousands of tutorials, presentations, making ofs like you are making on the internet. but there is almost no information about the business site of vfx and 3d. Make more videos about rare subjects. You will have more views, if you produce content with rare subjects.
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 6 лет назад
Sounds good, I will start planning for a video like that. I already try to make different videos on my channel. Only showcasing real productions and real assets. You will never see "fake" or "tutorial" assets in my channel.

really nice video. i have a question. in the shoot of the puppet on the field with the horse, the puppetiers were dress in green. there it is not problem in post because the back ground with all those threes were green too?
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 5 лет назад
Thanks, glad you like it. The green suits are so we can have a good edge for the puppet and so we can actually replace the backgrounds for the clean plates. So the green grass and forest do not matter because it is all replaced by the clean plates.

@@HugosDesk thanks for your answer. i saw the video once more and understood that. one last question please. I am looking for a very good full course in VFX online. I have seen very good material on your channel and many people have referred me to come here. Do you have any package of course or extended program? I would love to have access.
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 5 лет назад
@@UNOCASTILLO Yes I had a full Nuke course on Kickstarter last fall. It is a full compositing course with almost 100 hours of videos. it includes only production plates from top VFX facilities and we have 115 students right now. We are on week 9 of 15 so we are almost finished and we will do the course again soon. We also have a second course with CG and Comp that will be also available on Kickstarter this month. Keep an eye on my social media and RU-vid because I will announce all of it soon. In the meantime have a look at the course we did on Kickstarter last fall: www.kickstarter.com/projects/hugosdesk/hugos-desk-presents-the-complete-nuke-compositing?ref=user_menu

good stuff! what's the best way to take HDRI in your experience? Thanks!
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 5 лет назад
At the moment I mostly use the Ricoh Theta Z1 but if I need high quality reflections and if I have time Onset then I use a 8mm on my 5DSR.

One question buddy why i've movie behind the scene that they film in a speed 23.976 fps so why is the reason they reduce the speed from 24 fps to 23.976 fps ?
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 6 лет назад
It’s a long explanation that has to do with NTSC format. Here is some good info about it: documentation.apple.com/en/cinematools/usermanual/index.html#chapter=2%26section=5%26tasks=true
@lobos9182

What are the lens grids for?
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 5 лет назад
We use lens grids to remove the lens distortion from footage so we can do a proper 3D track. Lens distortion can make 3D tracking very difficult because of the warping and bend of pixels and images.

@@HugosDesk Fair point! Sometimes coming at this from the prospective of a director working primarily in lower budget music videos or non commercial art, its can feel like a lot of film education is centric around things you can buy or need to own rather than the problem solving skills that differentiate talent. Ends up making the industry (and by extension the art form itself) Feel less accessible to those without funds. That said, I really appreciate the wok you've done providing these resources! Its not your fault that helpful tools cost money after all.
