I always love hearing others' journey in o and m. So I would be interested in your cane travel story, how you were taught, the techniques you use, or rather, what has worked for you and what doesn't, maybe even different types of white canes if you use several. Here in the states, organizations like NFB are huge advocates of introducing a white cane to a child as early as possible; and it's a philosophy that I personally subscribe to. My introduction to a white cane came at age seven, and the only o and m I ever got was at school. At home, my family never encouraged me to go places with them, and having a cane out was an absolute no no. They made me wear sunglasses to hide my eyes, which I hated. I'm a pretty confident traveler now, but I had to work at it on my own. I think it's really cool that they have those camps at Guide Dogs Victoria. Here in the States, I think Leader Dogs offer o and m training, but I don't think most other guide schools do. Side note: Penny's input during your video was hilarious. When she came over to you, I could hear her tail beating against the phone or tripod. ::Giggles::
You guys are so lucky where you are having this kind of service available to you . Here in the philippines and i'm already in manila which is the capital we don't have any kind whatsoever .
I am very sorry to hear that you don’t have access to orientation and mobility training in Manila. I will hope and pray that one day things are improved so that you have this amazing service.
I do all of my filming and editing myself. I don’t know how to put writing in videos through iMovie and if I did, I wouldn’t be able to do it anyway because I can’t see where the writing would appear on the screen.
Yes, that’s exactly right. They do several different programs at that facility, children’s programs, guide dog training programs, adult mobility training programs, occupational therapy training programs.
