Ask and you shall receive! Hey Mitch, im a local agronomist in Saskatchewan and i have some tips for tilling that area. First, don't do harsh turns with the implement in the ground. Its very hard on the equipment and the 3point hitch. Proper procedure is to do 2 or 3 "headlands" or border which will be your turning area. Pick a spot on the horizon and draw a staight line with the tiller across the whole area. That will be your guide to follow back and forth for the entire field. At the end of the line, pick up the implement, turn around, line up and lower the implement once you are going. Try to raise and lower the implement while the vehicle is in motion to minimize wear and tear on tines in tiller. Hope this helps!

When you till in the weeds line that you are basically planting all the seeds of the plants you don't want. So once you turn the soil black you would want to apply a pre emergent to keep those seeds from turning back into plants

American here. A few years ago, my parents built a new home on a 5 acre lot. They only mow about one acre of grass, while the rest is field grass for their horses. My dad, brothers and I (I'm a triplet) planted a "buffer zone" of wildflowers between the lawn and field grass (about 5 to 8 feet wide). It took a couple of years to take root, but now keeps most of the weeds out.

I'd look into starting to lay out your beds with cardboard and bark. We have a huge, empty yard as well and this has been a great strategy to start building landscaped areas. And absolutely look into native plants. They are hardy, less expensive and add so many insects and wild birds to your yard

4:53 Hey Mitch, if you have a lot of land where weeds are getting out of control, i sugest buying a gasoline field mower (not the mini tractor version) , some of them are convertibles and can be attached to garden tillers (if they have this option) , it makes cutting a large area of grass easy and quick and you can enjoy having that green field instead of tilling it with the tractor. Also you can use herbicide, only after you cut the grass, but it turns it into a yellow-ish color and will make the grass die and prone to getting caught on fire, also i don't know how safe it is if you are planning to plant vegetables where herbicide was sprayed. You know your acreage the best and you can decide what suits you

In the beginning of mowing my lawn the turns aren't very sharp, but once they start getting too tight, I just mow the length of the patch and just don't mow the narrow ends. That way you don't have to worry about making the tight corners.

5:12 yes, I can help you out with that! the issue is that your province doesn't have an NHL team; so, you don't know how a Zamboni moves. but if you could mimic their pattern, you'd already be done and thrilled (in short, you don't encircle the outside, but cut your area in half and then you end up with the same turning radius until you're done. and this was my immediate thought; just didn't plan on actually writing it down until you really asked for it, lol.
@TheYardGeek

Try planting zoysia grass where those weeds are, you will need bender boards where you don't want the grass to be, But adios weeds, And no mowing, and it's drought tolerant, And it grows only 3 inches high, over here in the States this grass is used on golf courses, parks, e t. I’m not a farmer, but I have seen my fair share of hockey games, and love to watch the Zamboni machine. Like you, the Zamboni driver does not like tight turns. I suggest you google the Zamboni pattern. I’m sure it’s the most efficient as they clean the ice very often. AND, now that I’ve just posted this, I see I’m not the first to suggest this. 😢

Three rounds around the headlands, then back and forth overlapping four or five widths . Just keep moving across the area row by row at a comfortable turning radius. As up come up one row, swing wide and go down the next row four or five widths over.

hey, I'm not a real expert in this particular field, but know my basic physics. if you already built the roof strong enough, instead of an outright PV, you might as well just look into water (pre) heating on your roof (or, as a first step.) the good old way, so to speak. it's more efficient than electricity generation and has definitely the potential to safe you real costs. amortization times is typically shorter than for a full fledged PV, @@TheYardGeek.
