I'm saving this for when it finally is in Colombia's cinemas. I'm really excited to watch it. I love and respect Coppola's ambition.

The authors below are the ones who inspired Coppola in making Megalopolis; meanwhile, the last thing read by your average citizen is a McDonald's menu..."G.B. Shaw, Voltaire, Rousseau, Bentham, Mill, Dickens, Emerson, Thoreau, Fuller, Fournier, Morris, Carlyle, Ruskin, Butler; with Euripides, Thomas More, Moliere, Pirandello, Shakespeare, Beaumarchais, Swift,, Goethe, Plato, Aeschylus, Spinoza, Durrell, Ibsen, Hesse, Cao Xueqin, Tolstoy, McCullough, Moses, and the prophets all thrown in."

Civilization is the problem, it’s. Better to get out as early as you can. Than to fix a decadent existence

I think I agree with a caveat. All of nature engages in civilization or social ordering. The problem is that decadence implodes the social order into individualized experiences of anomie that have no cognitive mapping to tether them to a material base. We don't need less civilization. We need to reify what it means to be civilized back towards an understanding of economic and ecological mutualism. Decadence doesn't really matter one way or the other unless it is at the expense of environment and person which is not inherent in the items or ideals of decadence but it's actual social function in the realm of power and symbolic consolidation

@@OrpheuslamentBut nothing appeals to me. It's not about that. When it comes to Grandfather it's about basic literacy. Don't be as people you like to criticize. Should you skip Blood Meridian if you detest Westerns? Apocalypse is as accomplished as anything Cormac wrote.

@@OrpheuslamentYeah, I back the comment above. The Godfather is as about mafia as Shakespeare's plays are about European aristocracy. Merely a setting, but the story goes much deeper.

I dont think anyone misunderstood. The ending flat out does not have any material considerations and it flounders between denegrating the society which breeds the genius and simultaneously bowing down to its creation and the great man concept. The film doesnt resolve its class dynamic and it completely renders the mass of people to a 2d plot device for elites when the film is seemingly trying to critique this convention. It is a blazen example of not actually having any political conviction but feeling guilty about ones status in life yet refusing to engage internal reflection to see it is not everyone failing at engaging latin or Marcus Aurelius like Coppola rambles on podcasts about which ruins society and sows distrust. Its that this class of people cannot stop spending money and making garbage rather than actually ending the war they wage on the working class and the colonized nations of the world. The film has no idea of ecology outside a flimsy 10 year olds utopianism which amounts to: "dont stop consuming we will invent our way out and we can live in a synthetic nature in our synthetic economic functions until the singularity". I think you calling people uneducated and hammering on this point any time you critique others or other art shows a lot about how little you actually learn from your reading and how insecure you actually are about the fact that the things you like are seen as antiquated because the vast majority of people on the planet are stuggling through poverty and alienation and climate disasters and they quite frankly, even if they can afford to see a film, do not want to be chastized and pandered to by a man who was practically a billionare who instead of donating or creating an institution to fund peace and education he made a shite film. Its sad that you're 30 living in Texas and can stilk look at the world with such a naieve sense of philosophy and art that you think because you believe that the films finger pointing was just. Having some righteous punching up does nothing when the final point is to bow to the masters. Or maybe you thought it was ironic in which case i say you should maybe listen to Coppola's interviews because hes just a stoic libertarian. He doesnt care about our future, just us behaving his way
