Congratulations! It's interesting to compare your matriculation with mine in 1983. Mine involved the freshers' photo in college, then an even shorter walk to the Sheldonian than yours, the ceremony with some Latin, ten colleges matriculating at once, then back to my college to change back into normal clothes and go to lunch. It wasn't a day-long thing and no one took photos. (Taking photos was something only parents did. How times have changed!) And the weather was worse.
We think we had 6 colleges but it wasn't full. We also had group photo, not sure why I didn't put that in in the end (probably didn't get enough videos of it) haha
Hey! Love your content, and it’s really useful for me, since I’m applying to Oxford for Classics/French. Do you have anywhere that I can message you for more advice about the CAT and interviews? Thanks, and keep it up!
@@Sam.Kramer Thanks! I’ve applied to Magdalen. More or less at random, really, but I really like its look, location, etc. And it’s called Magdalen, which is just so cool. Alright, so - I’ve got my exams (CAT and MLAT) on the 3rd November. I’ve got loads of verb endings and noun declensions to brush up on (-μι verbs mainly), but my vocab is really going well. What was your main preparation for the CAT? How did you go about improving your verse and prose translating? Also, how did you find the CAT exam itself, and were you worried about it a couple of weeks before?
I have a new friend from Oxford doing CML (Greek & German) at Magdalen so that's cool! Make sure you are strong on your grammar. It is more important than vocab because they always put words you aren't supposed to know to see how you deal, but grammar is grammar (and can help you guess the vocab). Do the past papers at the right time (not too early) to get the most out of them. Practice them in totality to get used to timings. I was nervous which is only more reason to be confident with your grammar. If you slightly panic during the paper, at least you have the grammar to revert you! Best of luck, does that all make sense?
@@Sam.Kramer Ah what a coincidence about the Magdalen student. Would it be possible for me to be put in contact with them? If not, that’s totally fine. That’s very helpful advice. I’ll spend the next while going over verbs mainly (for Greek 😅) and all that. Then, I think when it’s coming to the last wee while, I’ll do the past papers. Thanks very much!
