Hey lovers,
This is my personal experience of my 88 days of farm work, in order for me to extend my Working Holiday Visa for another year!
Some facts about farm work:
♥ You need to work 88 days in SPECIFIC postcodes which are counted as 'rural' and it has to be paid work, in specific industries in order for it to qualify!
♥ I wouldn't suggest doing your farm days in the summer, as it get's too hot and your work/hours might be reduced because of that. It is actually illegal to work outside beyond certain temperature.
♥ I would AVOID doing strawberry picking/berry picking/onions at ALL COSTS! Worst farm work you can do (super tough, and berries are so underpaid)!
Do contact working hostels, they get you farm work. It is much easier to find farm work that way!
♥ In some cases you working 5 days counts 7 days towards your visa, but varies if you work at different farms. Best to do all your days with one employer.
♥ After you do your 88 days, you can apply straight away even if you are still working for the company for extra days - don't leave it to the last minute like me, as the IMMI website can be closed down for maintenance!
♥ For Pohlmans - there are a many sections, I worked in potted colour which is the toughest as we have KPI's, other sections are more relaxed and they have music, and get given endless gloves and nicer Management (unlike our section), so many people have much better experience than me. My supervisors just had a problem with me lol.
Disclaimer: THIS IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. Everyone's farm work and attitude is different. And I am so grateful for this experience!
