My paragliding fails 2023

I got my paragliding licence at the end of january 2023 and set as a goal for my first year to learn as much as possible. Here are some of those lessons i have learnt.
Flight 134: I tested a wing from a friend and wanted to catch some thermals. I was very inexperienced with thermals and made very tight and slow turns so i accidentely spun the glider, lukily i trained some spins and stalls before and let the wing refly but did not catch the dive enough so i got a collapse. This inccident was pretty close to the terrain.
Flight 166: Failed helico attempt, i accidently let the wing fly when it was behind me and did not really stop it. I love how safe en-a wings are.
Flight 330: a bad wobblecopter exit. Because i was still in backfly after the collapse half of the wing stuck on the lines from behind. I realised this and when i let the glider fly again it re-inflated beautifully. En-a wings are awesome.
Flight 448: you may wonder what i have tried on this one i got some speed with a nose down spiral and wanted to pull a big loop to the opposite side as i have done many times before. But this time i just pulled like an idiot and when i felt the brake go soft i knew that i have fucked up. I didn’t realise that i still held one brake pretty far down and unintentionally entered a sat, wich almost ate my very first rescue. I trained above ground but got wet feet, non steerable rescues suck. But considering i barely missed the traintracks i was pretty lucky.
Flight 647: Rythmic sat where i did not hold the risers between pumps, i must have accidentaly pulled a bit and got a collapse. Because i was in an unwanted rotation i threw my reserve. The rotation was towards the open side and by the time my rescue opened i was already untwisted, so i think this one was not entirely nessecairy. This time i had a steerable reserve tho and was able to land safely.
Flight 655: the very next day on the last flight i was already kinda low when i fucked up a misty that ended in some twists. Because i didnt have time to resolve my problem i threw the reserve. My box management also wasn't great on this one and i landed on a roof. R.i.p 2 roof tiles
Flight 714: Rythmic sat with a different wing, this time i clearly pulled to early and got a collapse, but i managed to connect it to a helico :)
Flight 728: third flight with my brand new wing. Fucked up a misty flip but the supersafe emillie recovered on ist own and i could calmly untwist :)
Flight 810: I hesitated on a infinite direct exit, it ended in a frontal collapse and my glasses went for the flight of their life.
Flight 811: I pulled to early on a rythmic sat and went diving thru the lines, i came out the other side pretty fast with only my feet a bit tangeled. The rescue opened towards the land and with a bit of tailwind i stayed dry. So i repacked the reserve and flew again 2 hours later.
Flight 925: One of my first cork attempts, i didn’t fully understand the manouver but i recovered fairly quikly.
Flight 983: This was the last flight of the day and i was pretty tired
Flight 1171: After a mac-twist i wasn’t ready to catch the shoot and got a collapse
Flight 1377: I have only done very few twisted mistys until then and they where all a couple months ago. Without any warmup i went straight for it, because i thought it was easy. I got some energy with a d-stall, twisted myself and didn’t pull enough to spin the glider. So basically i pulled an incredibly late and low energy tumbling and jumped into my wing. The rescue was a no brainer and it opened very fast because i was in freefall. With my main wing around me i couldn’t find the steering lines of the reserve and landed in the woods. Me and my emillie where fine but the reserve got two lines ripped off and two holes in the fabric.
But thanks to change gravity i quikly got a brand new beamer 3 installed and made another 7 runs that day.
Flight 1535: Unclipped my helmet just before the cork and it saw ist opportunity to get away.
I hope some other pilots can learn from my mistakes, i certainly did.

Wow - impressive progress in skills over such a short period of time !! F**ked it up with an Alpha at the beginning and in control with difficulties and an Acro wing later. Nice !!

Impressive progress, however watching your vid I had to remember a qoute: "there are old pilots and there are brave pilots, but there are no old brave pilots." Wish you all the best!

Oh well, some carnage is to be expected, if you're pushing that hard! 🔥 big respect to you, and motivation for me to start pushing again! 🥳✌

Yes that's true, the more you fuck around, the more you find out. Best of luck to you in your progression and fly safe🫡

And that is precisely the reason why I fly hang-glider. I know that PG is easier to fly, much easier to transport or store, lighter, faster to set up, just as good for XC... But it is fu*#ing scary and dangerous in turbulence!
@anieltoengi
@anieltoengi 13 дней назад
I respect your desicion but this is a compilation of me figuring out how not to fly a PG, every fuckup was pilot error. There is no turbulent air in this video😅. Please watch my other videos to see why i find PG so much more fun to fly :)
@safurian
@safurian 13 дней назад
@@anieltoengi you sure fly reckless. yes pilot error happens, but it happens many times with turbulence.

This guy is beyond crazy. Even experienced acrobatic pilots dare some of his maneuvers only over a lake.

@@asksteevs Thanks for pointing that out. Still I have seen quite a few PG throw their reserve in turbulence

Happy to report that no rescues where needed during this first half of 2024💪. I made 1330 flights in the first 6 months but i didn't push too hard for new maneuvers😅

how tf do you fly that much?! almost 1500 fly in one year feels just insane to me

I have a fulltime job with flexible work hours, i live close to the mountains and i have the energy of a squirrel on cocaine😅. Now just in the first 6 months of 2024 I did well over 1300 flights so almost double the pace of last year💪

keep in mind that he is flying accro, so his flights are very short (like 5 mins). With a good cable car connection he can probably do 10+ flights per day

Since when do you fly? How long hove you been flying acro and do you have any tips for an acro beginner ? (i do SAT heli wingover loopings, misty..)
@anieltoengi
@anieltoengi 21 день назад
@@samu.fliagn Hello my friend, i went to the training hill for the first time in october 2022 and got my paragliding licence in january 2023. I started experementing with spins, stalls and helis soon after and joined the acro club in july 2023, where my acro journey began. My tip would be to fly a lot, and don't get frustrated when a maneuver doesn't work the way you want. Failure is part of the process, and its almost necessairy to learn how to do it right. But when things get out of controll and you have to use your rescue, you proabably flew over your skill level. Don't hesitate to throw your recue, you paid for it and it was made to be used :). It is natural to always want to fly the next maneuver, but always ask yourself if you are truly ready and always try it in a safe environment. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Have fun and stay safe✌️
