I think it's mostly to create a nice flat surface for the concrete and rebar to start with. Also keeping it off the bare dirt means it dries and settles more evenly.
My heart desires to see my parents live in a dignified house. Am grateful to God that i have started this beautiful journey. Am in Kenya and anyone willing to support me I will truly appreciate. Thank you
I am from Morocco. You do a good job, but there are many fatal mistakes. Such as waterproofing and placing soil at once without dividing or compacting it every 40 cm
At first I thought it was a week foundation when I saw them laying clay bricks but wow that is one strong foundation. You can build a 8 story building on it.
I think this area has a high liquefaction/swamp factor. the squares are 'traps' pretty much acting like wedges place friction against the ground as it sinks with weight. But yea understandably it definitely does seem excessively wasteful if this is not the exact case.
Depends. If the área is an earthquake suceptible zone, then such foundations are pretty much a requirement, and seeing the plan of the foundation, it would be insufficient for such events, but then again, depends on the zone. Also It depends on how wet or swampy the terrain is at a level of 1 or 2 meters deep, or more. At first glance it seems insufficient, but different countries and regions have their own regulations for this type of case. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sultan neh bos.
In a location like that, the cost of labour is very inexpensive and locally sourced materials very cheap. This necessarily changes design. As an Australian structural engineer who worked in Asia for 40 years I have come to respect the local techniques and using the local skill base available.
@@oneiros1401 There seems to be none. But there are several pipes from the tank to the outside. Maybe they discharge into a sewer system, and maintain the tank through the pipes. But what is it good for, if there is a sewage system?
Ductile strength of the rebar reduces significantly if you weld rebars to make a joint. The joints from the foundation itslef have become weak due to this.
@@YUDNSAYi agree. most probably this is in the mekong delta where you are building a structure on top of tens of meter thick silt. They are augmenting the concrete structure with bricks since clay is readily available while quarry site may be hundred kilometers away. Thus they chose materials on economic basis. Spreading the wieght on an area as large as possible is the way to go. People should not make an assumption that there are no competent engineers in this part of the world.
Sometimes they even use bamboos as soil pilings. I say why not. The venetians used wooden pilings too below their massive adobe structures centuries ago.
@@GiovanniMarcos-fo7mo Not to mention St Petersburg, wooden pilings are very successful, the techniques here are very dense, and evenly spread, there should be uniform settlement.
