I truly appreciate the support from the majority of the commenters in this thread. There will always be those that try to shame victims into not speaking out about injustices. Sites like these can attract the trolls; can attract those who will be triggered by the subject matter and those who are still in the cult so I'm not expecting everyone to support my decision to speak out or even react rationally or be kind. I do however stand behind everything I stated in spite of the few that have made negative comments. I expected those to be quite frank. After my fiancé died who was a cop I had all sorts of people who hated cops saying all sorts of detestable and downright ugly things online saying they were happy he died a painful death so I'm fully aware of how ugly people can be. That didn't change who he was as a person and it didn't change his courage bravery and how selfless and awesome of a person he was. It didn't change that he died saving two children a mom and landlord and his partner. It only showed me that no matter how unselfish the act or good the person was there will always be the ugly ones ready to put their two cents in anyway. Even though I've had some rough experiences I no longer consider myself a victim. I extracted myself out of the situation I was in and became a better version of myself. It took time but I pushed past the abuse,I got out and I sought help. I found my power and I rose above all of the ugly of what I've been through. I do think others though may not have had the same solitude of strength to get out or get away. Im speaking out mainly in hopes that even one person may see this video and it may help that one person. I have a strong feeling that many others will have some parallels. This is a wide spread issue from what I have seen. I have high hopes it will help someone somewhere find their power too. I thank Lloyd for giving us all the platform to be able to all talk frankly and share experiences. It's very validating after all these years go hear so many common experiences etc. I am not perfect by any means we all have our faults all I can say is that I have done my best in life; I live a life that is not on the fence with both feet proudly and fully on one side and will never be quieted or pushed down again. I'm outspoken about what I experienced and always have been. This interview isn't the first time I've shared the information I shared. I encourage any who have an experience to share theirs as well. Thank you again Lloyd it has been 25 plus years since I was active and this interview was done after an 18 day ICU stay post a severe bout with Covid so I also had some post Covid brain fog during the interview.

The fact that they had premarital relations and David was 24 and Rebecca 17 when they got married was a red flag early on… is kind of disturbing in itself.

I’m always impressed or morbidly fascinated by how much energy it takes to be a JW and then to leave JW. My mother did a Bible study with a JW elder and his wife when I was a kid. I never believed and all that I could see was that I’d have no time for an actual life of my own. I can see now why my mom was an easy target. Recently divorced, disillusioned catholic looking for acceptance. They really know how to work a person over. Listening to this story all I can see is this young woman overwhelmed with everyday life and then JW pressure. That must’ve been a real living hell.

Hold on ! I’m appalled that your parents didn’t attend your husband’s (fiancé’s) funeral. This says it all. 💙daughter of a policeman I also had a bad marriage, it’s a similar sad story for young women with pure hopes but don’t have a clue

This is horrendous. Your ex husband and his mother are monsters. Abusers are so good at being good in public, at being deceitful and being charming to people who could be useful to them, especially people in power-like the Elders.

As a child I thought one thing about the way JW's reacted to suicide. Why don't we (including the GB) stop and put our collective effort to figure out why so-and-so committed suicide? The wing nut elders would say "they are taking the easy way out"! I've seen from current ex-jw vids some at bethel in high ranking positions still say this. Not giving them a funeral really puzzled me for years - why? Then I realized it's because they know why in most cases - the crushing depression from the abuse (sexual, mental, physical - sometimes all 3). The whole no funerals for suicides is just another way to cover it up as quickly as they can, blame the victim protect the criminal. I've been studying Machine Learning and there is a ML table from Russia that can predict if someone is in danger of suicide. This is one of the reasons why the GB fights so hard to protect the database, that data will clearly show the cover up. ML will with a high degree of certainty identify those in danger of suicide. So releasing the database would allow them to identify and help the victims still alive - but of course they would rather protect Jehovah's Righteous Organization. Makes me sick.

If I understand it correctly the JWs don't celebrate birthdays or Christmas, but they do have "baby showers" with gifts for the mother and they also celebrate weddings and wedding anniversaries?

Every second of every story counts towards anihilating this cult which has destroyed lives for over 150 years. I cannot fathom being trapped inside this cult and suffering untold horrors with no validation or support. The feeling of total helplessness must be overwhelming. I applaud and respect everyone who has broken free, phyisically, but more importantly, emotionally too. It's a prison for innocents. When I heard that the elders used the word 'trivial' talking about CSA, I was so shocked at the lack of empathy and understanding of the situation! So heartbreaking that this innocent young girl ended up commiting suicide, quite possibly because of not being able to have many around her to help when she needed it.

I’m sorry to hear everything you went through. I’m an officer also post JW life as an elder pioneer etc and I’ve never once had a JW family member support or attend any ceremonies for the same reason you mentioned. Also I think I may have known about your fiancé as I am very close with nearby Seattle PD. Very sorry for your loss.

I can identify with her feeling powerless. Unreal how intimidating it is when a psychopath has control over your life. So glad there is help out there today for poeple who have gone through such tramatic events. I have had counseling that is helping me slowly through the sexual abuse I encountered and how the organization tried to dismiss it. I didnt feel like I had a friend in the world. My eyes are opened today.

Hile this is an appalling story, I'm SO delighted that this lady knew she was a good Mum and wouldn't let anyone sway her self-belief in this matter. Good for her!! Because it's easy to fall into the trap of believing other people who say you aren't and starting to believe it.

The comment about being ostracised by other JWs (especially at school) for taking the beliefs so seriously triggered a memory from my former congregation. Some of us used to refer to those that took the beliefs particularly seriously as the ‘God Squad’. Maybe these were early unconscious doubts about the Religion, but I didn’t seek close association with those so dedicated.

I have a serious issue with people who say things like "people who were abused become the abusers", and although she added "well, some of them anyway..." albeit a bit too late, I think people need to be properly educated about it and just stop saying it, there's literally no evidence of that whatsoever, ffs, I was abused for 9 years, 2 of my brothers, 2 of my cousins and several of my friends were all abused as children, yet not a single one of us became that disgusting, if anything it put us in a position where we despise it more than the average person, seriously, this urban myth needs to stop, it puts everything we went through as nothing more than a side note to be ignored just because people are too stupid to actually look at the evidence rather than the myth... 😡💢

I was struggeling to listen to her after she said, she stayed quiet after the abuse of the 12 year old girl and she didn't know anything about pedophiles etc... It sounded like burying your head in the sand to be honest. I am sorry, i know she has been through stuff as well so i am not trying to be horrible about it. At least she doing the right thing now by exposing it.

I was just looking at the interviews playlist on the channel, at the moment of writing its at 116 videos. That's at least that many lives negatively affected by controlling cults, and definitely more as each interviewer has mentioned family friends and associates that have been affected. This is just the interview playlist for one channel among many and not including all of the stories yet told and the people that remain silent. I think that shows how serious and widespread a problem this is.

One thing I have noticed about these stories is that these folks all seem to have sad, complicated, violent lives. So hard to hear that their church doesn't support a struggling woman, or allow reporting of violence. Whew.

That idea of isolation and no actual help from people who are supposedly loving neighbors of you is universal in the religion (cult). 'Help" takes the form of as stated in the video the reading of scriptures and a guilt trip rather than any kind of actual assistance.

I married at 14 and had 6 pregnancies but 4 babies 2 misscarriages before i was 21. It had its benefits. Like i had the energy to keep up with them. But im now 33 and have an 18 son 16 daughter 14 son and 13 son and i couldnt imagine having children now at my age. It was a lot of work. I also cant imagine my kids having children or getting married that young. Which theyre already doing better than i did. My son graduated high school this year. And my daughter is still in school. They have friends. It is already better for them than it was for me. Thats all i could have hoped for. I hope they are able to have a better life than i did. I wasnt a jw. But i relate on that level abouy the kids really young.

That CULT is wicked as to anything regarding children.

Growing up we were JW, my stepbrother was a pedophile he sexually abused my sister and myself. I told my mom but she followed the advice of her pioneer sister pal and elders and said " because no one else seen them that never happened" & he was allowed to stay in our house and inside the congregation. He eventually got "marked" not for what he did to us but because he started a fist fight at the assembly hall.

This is one of the major problems we’re facing in this country. You’re guilty until proven innocent now. I feel so bad for this poor woman and the fact that her own child was manipulated into saying such horrific things that were not true in the slightest bit is so very disturbing. Why would her child trust her father’s family into telling straight up lies to the police when her mother was the only constant loving person in her life. I just don’t understand that. After everything was legally straightened out, I hope she received some type of compensation for the defamation of her character. What her ex and his family did is so despicable. Also, women are treated so terribly by the organization. You and your children could constantly be violated by your husband and yet the elders will say it’s your fault and that you’re just a terrible wife and that’s why these things are happening to you. How disgusting is this organization for saying, believing, and treating people who are in disparate need of help!? The elders and the entire organization is worthless!

I think taking away the fun parts of childhood is one of the worst aspects of the Witnesses. No birthdays, no holidays, not being allowed to be friends with quote unquote “worldly people” and just having this overwhelming feeling of being freakishly different from literally everyone else is the absolute worst! The crazy thing is Watchtower can’t seem to understand why so many people who were raised Witnesses decide to leave the first chance they get. The Jehovahs Witnesses is not very conducive for children. As someone who was raised a Witness, I could never raise my children in such a controlling, overbearing, and judgmental organization because that’s what it is.

The elders told me if he kills you ,you dont need to worry as you have the hope of the resurrection . This I was told when my children were less the 12 years old. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and felt I had just been hit all over again by the elders. The elders need to be sued, The Org. needs to be sued and loose Everything, Everything.

Rebecca know just how you feel, my younger sister ( who has since past due health issues) had the same experience as you. Your story is exactly the same as hers, I was amazed it's like a carbon copy f Nancy's life years ago, with some small differences. She married at 17 in the late 60s, had 4 kids, husband sounds like yours was. our mom sounds like ours also, she past in Dec 2019, a witness from 1956 or 57. Hthats another story in it self. They never help the elderly, the widows, the children etc.. my ex husband we both JW left me with 4 kids I was only 32 yrs old. I ask for help to the elders they said: We are not a institution for finacial help they told me to go to the local government to apply for assistance this was in NY in the Bronx. A government that the JW refuse to respect not allowing us to vote or even allow our children to register at 18 for the military which I regret so much, I convinced my oldest son not to signed it when it was time to go to college he was denied government help because he never registered for military services something I regret & feel guilty to this day I am 63 now, fortunately my other 2 boys did not listen to me & signed it. I was never a person who was fanatic but I followed or was brain washed like so many of us but I always told my kids I will never force you to get baptized when you think you are ready or want to continue in the religion is up to you, now my daughter who was the oldest child she & her daughter got baptized later those 2 are horrible no compassion no love for anyone.

It's weird isn't it? When in the borg You where the one in the congregation to be sincere about your beliefs yet it didn't go well while for you when being in it, I always felt like a outsider too. Yet it seems that a lot of the insincere people in that cult are still in. The ones that took it seriously are getting out.
