My personal thoughts on the GFX 50s ii + Canon R6 + Medium Format film 

Understandable, decision for your business and shooting style. But there are two points I’d like to address. You having a 12 year old computer with no storage has nothing to do with the GFX system. Secondly you are wrong about lenses being expensive. They are actually similarly priced to the new Canon RF L lenses. You can’t really compare a true medium format lens to a cheap DSLR lens. Besides there is plenty of sub $2000 lenses available and most of the GF lenses can be found used for less than that. How much is the Contax 645 and lenses? It’s all relative. …and for gods sake upgrade your workstation! 😅

I can’t put my GFX 50s II down. It’s that good. That said, it’s not fast for quick movements. For stills and perfectly timed movements, it’s great. Love the shutter sound and feeling 🥰

So ... u dont like the Fujifilm GFX 50II ... cause Zeiss 80 mm is too long? That seems very logical.

It is a medium-format camera. You should compare the lens prices vs other medium format lenses, i.e. Hasselblad and other popular brands, and see how much cheaper Fuji lenses are compared to them. The most expensive GF lens is the GF250mm which is around $3200 if I am not mistaken. Other brands would cost more than $4k and even higher. Do your research.

This video is literally saying: why this camera is not as fast as my full frame camer and lenses XD.

Have you tried editing the Canon raw files with Canon’s DPP software? For my taste I’ve found it processes the images better.

I switched from canon to Fuji full time recently XT4 and just sold my xt3 Would it be weird to shoot with different systems or formats? Im kinda Interested in the canon r6 I still have canon glass. Or one of the GFX Fuji cameras?

The GFX50SII is using the same Sensor as the GFX50R and GFX50S. The output is basically the same. The GFX Medium Format Cameras are not your run and gun camera. I have the GFX50R with 4 GF Lenses, Full Frame Camera cannot match the output quality of a Medium Format Camera. Lightroom does not do a good job processing Fujifilm RAW Files. Use Capture One.

Please keep up the videos great channel. I love the side by side comparisons with all the various camera. You really saw the difference with the R6 but I cannot believe how similar the 5dm3 to the contax almost identical. Color wise at least. Is the 5dm3 too slow for a wedding I thought it’s pretty fast. Also the 1v image you showers was great quality as well.

It doesn't make sense to change if you get these results with the gear you already have. Great shots, by the way. I love my GFX 50r and use it daily with my old Pentax and Nikon film lenses. For me, AF is nice, but I can focus faster manually and get those fast-moving shots because I am more familiar with it. Subscribed and liked your video.

I've had both the original GFX50 and the 50R. Both are/were amazing cameras with respect to image quality. I sold them because for reportage work, e.g. people, ceremonies, activities, they were pretty much useless. I loved them for landscape and still life. The results were beyond beautiful. But if your business involves any kind of movement, forget it. In fact I sold them and expanded my Fuji APS-C system to cope with the work I do. I think one issue is that if you have not shot MF then expectations going into the system will be akin to buying a bigger sensor FF camera. I still hanker after owning the system again purely for the contemplative, slow, tripod type photography. But a business case is difficult to create unless you are a studio, landscape or product photographer.

For Contax lens you could get a speed booster so it would look like 50mm.

you have a great medium format setup. Is a mamiya/phase one digital back not an option? Combining it with the Mamiya glass or even with the Zeis glass. In terms of price, it is relatively affordable

Loving my 50R but I'm caught in no man's land wondering if I should get a medium format film camera or a 2nd GFX.. Or something faster.

I **love** my 50S ii... but I'm a hobbyist and probably the only goober who shoots it in Fuji JPG much of the time. It's utterly perfect for street, travel, and documenting family life if your kiddos aren't running around that much, pretty much like a giant X100V... with the sweet kit 35-70 it's not much bigger than a A7iv with a 24-105 and an ounce lighter. The lack of lenses and their expense keeps GAS in check ;) Like a lot of Fuji gear, it's a little weird and unusual compared to a garden variety CaNikon or Sony A*, but yeah -- I've never been the guy who clicks off 20-30 shots a second. I can get 5-10 beautiful JPGs in quick succession, it's sufficient. I'm the guy who takes 50 shots into LR but only imports the 10 best into my Apple Photos library.

The GFX 35-70mm Kit lens is a steal at $500. Good points though. It's interesting to see people still shooting film in 2022. I've got a Rolleiflex 2.8D, my dream TLR film camera but I've never shot it. It's just art/decor right now. I should take it out and see what it can do. Cheers.

The GFX has fast autofocus with the Fuji 50mm f3.5... with the Fringer adaptor and Contax lens it's slower, but still usable. Plus, there is no downtime loading film. The main advantage of the Contax is that it's a full 645, the Fuji is not quite the same size, that's why it crops in closer. Fuji needs to make a 67 medium format digital sensor next for old Mamiya and Pentax lens, then photographers obsessed with image quality, will be all set.

For ur R6 try DXO editing software. May involve less editing.

You should really try the Fuji XT4 with some 1.4 primes. The 33 is virtually perfect.

Definitely the GFX is not for everyone. Its a huge investment for such a slow system. But for me the best part was the shooting experience and the richness of the files, the dynamic range, details and colors are amazing. Blows my Canon R6 of the planet, I ended up buying one with the Fuji 80mm f1.7 and literally only use it for the main bridal portraits and family, bridal party portraits. For everything else its a bit slow. Totally agree

I'm sorry. I usually don't react to videos, but here I feel I have to, because listening to this really annoyed me. I have a 6 year old Macbook with only an i5 processor and 8gb of RAM. I have no problem working these files, either in Capture One, DXO, Luminar or ON1. With regards to speed it is no secret that the GFX is not very fast, but it is certainly not slower than an analog film camera ... you didn't even use a GF lens with the GFX50Sii. Of course you have a right to your opinion, but dissing a product publicly that you clearly have not mastered is not a nice thing to do... and for what ? A few likes on RU-vid ?

canon lenses are extremely expensive as well, imo sony has the best lense selection

The Fuji GFX-50 is the wrong camera for you at this point in your career. What you actually need is to update your workstation, and shoot in RAW+JPEG using your Canon RAW converter - much better than Lightroom or Capture One.

You do some great informative content for weddings, but as a professional camera person the videos you are doing are a representation of your work. The jump cuts look bad because the lighting changes. I know it is a small thing as far as YT content goes, but you are in the photography space. If i could make a suggestion, light yourself so the lighting remains.consistent. it just gives a finished feel to your videos. I personally hardly ever do jump cuts, i really hate them although in the YT world they are acceptable. But any professional content, you don't see jump cuts. Hope this helps, apart from that great content i am.surprised you don't have more subs. A suggestion for content is to show some of your favourite pictures, and then do a talk over about the shot and how you picked the lighting camera settings. Then refer to your IG content. I know this is common on YT but as a viewer is interesting. So you do any wedding video work?

Just want to clear up things for your viewers about your Cons because to be quite honest it comes off as very naive in many's experienced eyes and a bit misleading in it's purpose and use; . 1) "Huge Files" - not the cameras fault. 50Ms on ANY camera are going to produce huge files. You get a 50Mp sensor for that reason and resolution. 2) I"t's Slow" - It's a Medium Format. Everything is going to be bigger, it is not a FF or APS-C where tech behind this are optimized for it's size. MF is for quality, not quantity/speed. In my experience the Fuji MF systems have faster AF than the Hasselblad X series and Pentax. All use the same 50Mp sensor. 3) "Zeiss is too Long..." - That lens is designed for real MF coverage (4x5, 4x7.5, 6x6). Being that these sensors are "crop" MF you are going to get a 60mm FoV (FF equivalent) rather than a 50mm. so distance to subject will be different in turn will effect your bokeh. 4) "Expensive limited lenses" - Again it's Medium Format. Lots more glass and size to cover the sensor. ALL MF systems don't have the variety of FF systems. It's part of shooting MF. MF is a specialized tool set, thinking otherwise or thinking it's another FF system is not understanding the physics of different formats of photography and it's uses. High-End Professionals will typically use the Full Format MF sensors like the Hasselblad HD series or PhaseOne systems which are closest to the image frame size of MF film cameras but then we are talking about $10k to $50k for those bodies alone. I'm just saying one must know their purpose and specific meeds and final output in their photography to graduate into Medium Format systems just as we did in the Film days with 35mm film (FF) to MF film, and the same applications existed then as it does now with Image Quality and cost... It was all about the ability to print huge poster size with sharp detail, now days the average person doesn't print anymore or at least notebook size if at all with the occasional letter size or 8x10, instead we view everything from our iPhones to desktop computer monitors where any decent 16Mp APS-C sensor will be more than adequate. MF is extreme overkill for 90% of all "photographers" unless you tend to print large and show in galleries -or- if you always like to majorly crop your images. Like you said, FF cameras like your Canons are all you need to get the job done and efficiently.

Here is my take as a hobbyist. AF is slow, it is slow even on GFX100s. I haven't yet shot with GFX100 II but I can imagine it being just a fit faster, not like FF or APS-C. Colors wise not much difference between 50MP vs 100MP but somehow I also see a bit better colors from my GFX50s than my GFX100s. Lens wise, you should have used 63mm f2.8 (if you like 50mm FF). 80mm is like 63mm and personally I like it very much. I haven't tried the new 55mm f1.7. Files wise my old PC was an issue with 100MP files but not much. This using C1. Hard drives here in US are dirt cheap. I do agree that business wise I wouldn't probably buy GFX.

Slow autofocus? No. Film cameras from late 80's and early 90's had slow autofocus. And you can avoid too much processing with any Fuji camera if you master JPEG's in camera. Sounds terrifying, but it really isn't... And price difference... well, MF cameras and lenses are that much more expensive than FF cameras and lenses as APSC cameras are cheaper.

I have GFX 50S and GFX 100. That's really weird why it didn't suited your work. I shoot wedding and mostly portraits with it. Obviously GFX 100 (or 100s) is much faster and accurate than 50S (and 50S II). But don't forget in 60-80s many olympics games were shot on manual lenses...even some shot on 4x5 !! The AF speed isn't something you can justify as argument, since if you are good enough you can shoot manually a wedding. I also shoot Pentax 67 with 105mm 2.4 a whole wedding without having an issue because it's fully manual. For ex for the kiss in church I say before to stay still and let me shoot ! You can foresee it and work with couple, I mean they are also comprehensive and want to have kiss shots or else ! :) For the colors, yes 50S has nicer colors than GFX 100 straight out of camera, more colorful and vibrant. That's true!! Even when shooting JPGs , 50S has a "bug" when you set Skin smooth effect on weak or strong and Color chrome on weak or strong, your image become like film ! Greens are colder greens (turquoise even) just like Portra 800 or Fuji 400H. GFX 100 can't do that . Now you have Kipon 0.8x focal reducer with AF, wich makes Contax 80mm F/2 look like 50mm equivalent :) I think you should dig more in GFX but if the AF speed is above all, then stay with Canon for sure
