patreon.com/mattburkeen820 Full breakdown of my 2022 Pro Motocross race bike - YZ250 2 Stroke Yamaha High Point, Red Bud, Millville, Washougal, Unadilla, Budds Creek, and Ironman were all raced on this bike
We’re a no bullshit kind of program! If it doesn’t help me go faster I’m not into it, don’t really care all that much about how it looks I just need to go fast 😂
Cool ride man. Glad you are making it happen. People have no idea how fast you have to be or how much abuse a bike takes to run a pro race. Keep on keeping on!
Especially on a modern 4-stroke MX track. The lap times have gotten 33% faster in the nationals because of the faster 4-stroke. I doubt if Jett could win on a 2 stroke.
We should've done this at Riverside on the showroom bike haha. It was the fastest 250 there at the moment until it wasn't... Ole girl looks a lil tired, but she was definitely ridden hard and barked alongside the best of them. Can't wait to build a real thoroughbred dime piece for 2023.
Dude that fork height you mentioned is so important. I have a 2018 and slid my forks through 1 day to see how it felt and my bike was handling like absolute dog crap, I wasn’t 100% sure what I’d touched but I decided to slide the forks through flush with the clamps to see if that fixed it and sure enough the bike handled and felt 10x better.
Thank you for the videos Matt! Love being updated on your dirtbike world. Really looking forward to seeing you race next year! I can only imagine how much better you'll do with the extra power. Many blessings to you and your crew!
@@mattburkeen820 I would love to see you do really well!!! Prayers for some great sponsors to step up and take some pressure off of you so you can focus on yourself as a rider.
MRX02 mixed with C12, match the crank to the piston is a good solid mod. I’ve heard Vertex has a less change to seize than some of the other manufacture, thus wiseco is good. I mean listen to Mitch’s Roczens bike was based on rv’s spec you dont even need to go with aftermarket cdi, thus i would wonder what you would think about PC’s villos works spec pipe. But tbh you could make so much with it but would you really want to tear it down every two-three hour, it needs to be stable enough. I honestly think you are doing great with the stuff you have now, you seem to be happy with it and it’s fast. Solid build and we hope to see you out there in 2023 ripping on the two stroke! 👍🏼
I almost went with MRX02 for my big 2 stroke race a month ago but I’ve just heard it’s a lot harder to dial in and a little riskier so I went safer with the T2 and it was awesome. I watched the bike build with Mitch too but I don’t quite have the same resources 😂 thanks for watching!
Well done Matt, just goes to show that it doesn't always take a ton of money to get the job done. I raced an 09 yz250 for several years with similar upgrades and was pretty happy with it. After waiting on Yamaha for ever to upgrade it, I decided to switch to a KTM 250sx in 2017 and was amazed by how much of a better bike it was. I just got a new 2022 model this summer and they just keep getting better. Thanks for sharing your bike build with us.
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed! I actually tried a ktm recently and didn’t like it at all, guess I’m just made for blu cru. Love how competitive I am able to Make the bike with the budget I have!
That seat is thrashed. South African from my home town, Cape Town, started a mx seat business called " Nithrone". They do custom seat covers that last. Give him a call, maybe he can sponsor a seat and you could do some marketing. He moved his business to USA.
Thanks for the suggestion maybe I will have to hit them up! Yea the stock seat cover has definitely seen better days 😂 but my money has gone to performance mods, have never cared much about if the seats a little ripped or not lol
Sweet, thanks for sharing. I want to say Yamaha upgraded the brakes in 2022, it should be a bigger rotor then what's on my 2011 YZ, that said I put an oversized Gaffler huge improvement cause you are right the stock brakes are shit. I also learned a trick from Ryan Hughes, move your brake perch farther to the left so when you grab the lever you are on the end of the lever getting the max leverage. Then again, if it ain't broke don't fix it is a good policy. Good luck to you in 2023, I will be a watching..
Yamaha actually put a smaller rotor on for 22! I didn’t know until I tried to put my 21 wheel on it and it wouldn’t fit. Also that’s a good point about the lever, might have to try that!!
Dude you're an inspiration!! Good tip for yz's Facebook marketplace is your friend for parts! Got so many useful items off there. Pipes, pc silencer, arc levers, rad valve, wheels, cylinder head, footpegs.etc.. way more cheap than new. Who cares if it's scratched up some as long as it's functional!!!
Thanks for the tips about marketplace! I’ll have to check it out because I’m with you I don’t give a shit if it’s used or scratched or whatever, if it works I’m in! Thanks for watching!
Back in 2006 we did a dyno with pipe and silencer combos.. the best was aftermarket pipe with stock silencer.. also I also liked the mx33 but tired the tusk emex T35 tires on my sons 250f and couldn’t believe the grip they got so bought them for the 450 and haven’t gone back. So sometimes cheaper is better. Also I run the T2 in my other boys 65 and never had to jet it. Starts and runs awesome. Plug looks good as well. Great smelling stuff to!
"I like the bottom end snap of the 52 tooth sprocket. If I don't need the snap, that is what throttle control is for IMB." You 4-stroke guys always forget about the clutch for traction control. :)
4 stroke Killa MattyB!! Super cool video brother every video I get the itch to roost thanks Matt. Ride the wheels off it WFO!!! Good luck how's the back? #SENDIT
Nice bike! If you’re burning clutches give the tusk plates a shot. Cheaper and the tusk quality impresses me for the money. Love the T35 tire they make as well.
I have heard c12 is good but I’m gonna have a hard time switching from the t2 now that I’ve got jetting and everything figured out. The power is insane
Haha nah they were a little farther back than usual because I need a new chain but I like the short wheel base! The sliders could go way farther back than that
I have my 125 with a big bore kit and I had the rear seat fatted up 2 more inches of foam still run the slippery seat keep it wfo on the pipe WideOpen on the rear end off the seat
Is the t2 gas premixed? Also what jetting specs do you use? Special chart for it or just base it off of the stock chart with small adjustments? And just a tip for making it look a small bit better you can take a brillo pad to the frame to clean off your boot marks to shine it up like new
I actually take an sos pad to the frame from time to time just not this time 😂 the gas is already premixed 40:1 and I don’t have a chart or anything for jetting I’ve just gotten to where I am through trial and error
I ride a crf450rx in harescrambles down here in Alabama my boys also race but my youngest son just traded a 22 husky for a 20 yz 250 and that thing is a blast to ride it was already set up similar to yours...actually making me think about selling my 450 😢..the last yz 250 i was on was back in 1990.lol..
My bar pad cover actually flew off a couple weeks ago while I was driving to a race 😂😂😂 and never had a gripper seat cover but that would definitely be a nice addition!
Man there’s so much more that could be done to this bike to get a little more out of it.Have you tried a phat head racing head yet? Now that you’re running race fuel you can raise compression and put a high compression wiesco piston in. Also not sure if you’ve tried a lectron carb but it’s supposed to like fuel injection for a 2 stroke. No more messing with jetting. Also I bet if you hit up bills pipe and run them on your graphics they’d hook you up with a whole new exhaust system maybe. Also I’d try to get linked up with maxima fluids. Phat head racing head, high compression piston, lectron carb, a whole new exhaust, you’d be chillin brother.
You tryin to have the moto gods smite him? Getting rid of a keihin for a lectron? Blasphemy. Thou shalt not lectron, ecclesiastes 69, from the book of uncle Ron.
@@Blueovalnation why would you wanna run a burbly ass poor running off the bottom mikuni…. It’s not a drag bike dude. It’s a moto bike. You want the connected feel. You want it to be crisp and bark right off the bottom. Nothing has a more connected feel than a keihin. Miks are junk. 😂
@@user-mo8tm4jw2l keihin is junk, way behind. Mikuni is crisp, why do all Australian bikes use mikuni’s. You can’t sit there say Ktms “don’t bark” 😂 also, why do all 2 stroke race skis swap to mikuni’s and junk there keihins. There’s a reason, different machine, similar concept.
@@mattburkeen820 It for sure is good! And affordable. I would do 12hrs on fluid, then down to 8 and kept it there. Obviously not doing nationals but clutch lasts forever. 👊
@@eaglemx45 wow I do oil changes like every other ride! But I don’t know how to do a whole lot of maintenance so I have to make sure I really stay on top of the stuff I can do 😂
That's the way I run my levers and I cut the tires with a hacksaw saw when they get a little more grip sweet I had a 1996 I put a talon hub on the rear I blew my rear hub from WideOpen never whole shot device sweet sweet sweet
@@mattburkeen820 oh it helps it brings the shape of the front edge of the rolling front edge grabbing like it. Was new I wanna try they dunlop dirt cupped looking like a monster gripper
Love what your doing have you tried pro Honda hp trans oil I tried a lot even type f atf in my 125 days I swear buy it Maxima guy at hear but love that oil plus it comes in a ketchup style bottle I’m not very fast but just a recommendation you might already tried I have run rotella in my crf 450 and z50.
@@mattburkeen820 It's the greatest secret never told by oil or clutch companies. Try it, the results will blow your mind. Tranny fluid keeps oil from breaking down.
I love the gold valves! I’ve always liked my race tech stuff a lot, never have to adjust it just put it on and go. I’ve never had Enzo that’s set up for me but I’ll be sticking with the gold valves for sure
@@mattburkeen820 ya I've been doing it for years on my bikes before I got hurt. And alot of local racer's on 125-250. Imo it works better than a vforce for midd-top✊ where you ride for sure. And it's free 🔧🔧😀
So realistically how would you compare your 250 vs your 450 in terms of which is easier to ride? Like if someone wants to get a faster bike like a 450 would a 250 2 stroke be a good substitute?
If you ask the average person they would say the 450 is way easier to ride but for me the 2 stroke is way easier to ride because it’s what I’m most comfortable on by far, the 450 actually wore me out way worse. I just love how light the 2 stroke is, I can put it wherever I want it without working as hard! Arm pump was also much worse on the 450
Thanks for the setup tips. Ive been running av gas in mine the whole time too. Does the race gas only help if you have a different head? I have the stock cylinder and head
Oxygenated race gas will help with stock compression bikes. C12 for mega high compression to be safe. If you like to mix gas and haul ass though your gonna be blending anywhere from 2-3 fuels into some sauce for the ol death machine 🤘🏻 ymmv
I’ve never tried the race gas in a stock bike so I’m not too sure! But I know it’s been a huge difference in my bike. I’m a cheap ass and I’ll still pay for it 😂 don’t think I can ever go back now! But av gas was really good to me for years
Race gas will 100% help with a stock cylinder and head, I’ve felt a noticeable difference in my YZ250 and all I have is a pipe and silencer. The trick is you have to run 2 gallons of race gas (VP 110 octane leaded) with 3 gallons of 91 pump. You don’t want to run too much race gas in the mix or else it might lose performance. Even 1 gallon to 4 makes a difference. Throttle response is more crisp, it pulls a little harder off bottom and on top.
@@slayerfan209 it’s made a huge difference for me! I have head and cylinder mods so I’m just running straight race gas but you’re right it’s crazy how much crisper it gets!
You're probably smoking the clutch springs before the actual clutch, my 2021 YZ springs suck. My trick is to run a bag of $5.99 Tusk Clutch Springs from Rocky Mountain ATV. Keep those fresh every ride or two and maybe youll get more hours out of the clutch. But agreed longevity is not great on the YZ.
I’ll have to try that trick, thanks for letting me know that! I think the main problem Is me abusing the shit out of my clutch but I’m all ears for anything that might help 😂
Hahahaha I had some people saying it was a big bore during outdoors and that was far from the case 😂😂 I’m definitely sticking with my 2 strokes from here on out!
Ok how many hours do u do a top end and crank i used to do top ends a lot but realized the bean oil caused powervalve to stick just needed cleaning i love the smell of klotz and sunoco race gas
@@shotgunbrown2821 I usually do top ends around 15 hours just to be safe. But during nationals I had to do it way more often because of the stress the bike was under all the time
@@scott473 honestly it has been a few years since I tried it and it was in a last minute race situation so it may have just been that I was uncomfortable. Plus I know I love the stock clutch feel so I’ve just stuck with it!
@@smauller623 I had quite a few people tell me that and then when I tried it that confirmed it. Everyone runs them in Europe, cairoli ran it on all kinds of conditions
@@smauller623 I think you will really like it! I’ve even ran it on tracks that aren’t all that soft and it’s still pretty good, and it’s insane for starts
Why isn't VP, FMF,Dunlop, Boyeson etc. Sending you free parts. You're lining up at pro nationals and all the views you get,it would be well worth it for them to send you free stuff to mention in your videos
I’m not sure but it would be sweet if they would! I’d love to promote them on here and it would be so awesome to get some help on some product. Just gonna keep on keepin on and hope they come to notice!
ahh who the hell runs Aviation fuel in a high performance 2 stroke its meant for Airplanes so they dont crash into the ground like a icbm missile....lmao.. dont tell Yamaha those engineers did not ever have av gas in the equation... pump gas for stock, race fuel for modded squish areas only...
Hahaha hey man it’s worked great for years! When I get top ends done using the av gas everything always looks perfect and like it could last much longer. Not the best for horsepower but for longevity I would recommend the shit out of avgas! The engineers can stick to engineering I’ll tell you what actually works in the real world 😂
@@mattburkeen820 100% yankin the dank lol. I admire the shit out of anyone that motos and gives it all they got. Man, I hope you get some mad support. That would be sikk! #NOCHOICE
Be careful with how tight you make the holeshot device clamp on the fork tube. If its too tight, it will effect how the piston goes through the stroke in the tube. Just incase you didn't know already my dude.
Thank you for letting me know! I actually knew someone a few years ago that had that problem so I’m definitely aware of how tight it is. Thanks for watching!
So how’d you get a top end, full exhaust system, reeds, suspension valves/components for $600? 😂 Why are you burning clutches? Lol I barely use my clutch after the start.
My top ends were stock until just now and I got my wisecos through an award so didn’t have to spend any money on that! Got a little bit of a break on pipe, reeds, and head and cylinder Job so that’s where that total comes from. Also I abuse the shit out of my clutch so that’s why I’m frying them 😂
@@mattburkeen820 you don’t pay labor for any of that work? Edit: what mix do you run? 50:1? And is 14:52 that much faster out the hole than 13:51 sprockets?
@@jonathoncook8367 definitely faster out of the hole! And I do unfortunately have to pay for labor but I was just calculating the cost of the upgrades the actual parts. The gas comes premixed 40:1
