With Raya telling kids you should always trust everyone even if they openly threaten your life, and Wish telling kids they're entitled to anything they want regardless of the potential harm some people's desire would cause, I'm wondering what Disney is trying to achieve

My biggest gripe in this movie: when the druun are attacking and Raya and her dad are fleeing instead of bear hugging her and diving off the bridge together so he can protect her he stops, stares behind them, stares at raya, smiles, gives some inspirational BS, and tosses her. SHUT UP AND JUMP OFF WITH HER SHES LIKE 10

Just one thing I might add is this. In the scene where Sisu shares her plan of giving Namaari a gift, at first I thought it was just a joke. "Just walk up to Namaari and give her a gift, and she'll give us the gem piece and be best friends!" Of course, not a super funny joke (just like most of her jokes), but that's all I thought it was. Somehow it didn't even cross my mind that they would actually go with that plan. I actually thought to myself "What if someone made a parody where they actually followed Sisu's plan?" But when she proceeded to figuratively twist Raya's arm into going with her plan, I was like "oh... wait WHAT??? Are you kidding me right now?!" Although, in their defense, they didn't just walk straight into the palace like the original plan. What they actually ended up doing was slightly more logical.

Disney did manage to make a compelling, childishly annoying mysterious figure with Peter Pan. In the animated movie, Wendy is initially enamored and mystified by him because of the stories, but the mystery starts to unravel as the film progresses. At first, he seems rather gentlemanly saving her from falling, but then he starts laughing as the mermaids try to drown her, and Tiger Lily turns his face red. Wendy starts to realize how much of a child Peter really is and how much of a grown-up she has already become, and so she decides to go home.

Yeah, Peter Pan was kind of a massive donk. Plus the way Disney treated the child actor he's based on so horribly.

@@ThePrincessCH You're not wrong, but Bobby Driscoll was treated even worse. I suggest looking him up, if you want to get really angry. But not Wiki, they sanitize a lot of it. For example, they say he "left Disney studios", but he didn't, Disney forced him out cuz he hit puberty and Disney didn't think he was cute and marketable anymore. It's especially messed up because Disney not only contributed to him getting hooked on the substances that directly led to his...ugh youtube won't even let me say it, his "not alive" by plying him with uppers and downers on film shoots and then later dumped him like he was nothing, but they insulted him further in the Chip and Dale movie by making him the villain. The character wasn't even Peter Pan, it was just...Bobby Driscoll. Same backstory and everything.
@octochan
@octochan 3 месяца назад
people tend to forget that Peter Pan was originally written that way - even the very last line of the book says "...so long as children are gay and innocent and heartless." Peter will never grow up, so he will never understand when he's being cruel to people around him.

The moral is that you're supposed to trust people... But they take EVERY OPPORTUNITY to show how trusting people is a bad idea. Literally _every time._ Whatever happened to "show, don't tell," the NUMBER ONE RULE OF STORYTELLING? Instead they _show_ the opposite of what they are trying to _tell._
@CorvusDei2012

Sounds like Disney has doubled down on going about the business of teaching children precisely the opposite of the morals and wisdom that they need. Thanks for the update and grats on the milestone!

I tend to hyper-analyse movies and their plots when I watch them, so I for one am glad to have only heard of this movie twice. XD There's no way I would be able to sit through this. Honestly, as a huge fan of the original Beauty And The Beast, which has one of the best, most well-organized plots of any movie I can think of, it's sad to see how far Disney has fallen.

I remember that a lot of people compared trusting in this film as forgiving. Which sounds like they go hand in hand, but not really.
@JonathanCallarman
@JonathanCallarman 3 месяца назад
Yeah, I’ve seen that too. But I agree, the reason that doesn’t work is because the film treats trust and forgiveness as if they are one and the same, and refers to both of them as “trust”. While they have some similarities, trust and forgiveness are two completely different concepts. Forgiveness is when you choose to let go of your grudges or anger toward a person or thing. Trust is the belief in the reliability of a person or thing. The film is correct that Raya should let go of her grudge toward Namaari. But she should not trust her. To believe in Namaari’s reliability and dependability would be to accept to believe in a lie.

I genuinely can not stand the fake out death trope, like if your going to kill a character kill them, not only is it a cheap way out (I might be a bit dramatic here tbf) I feel like way too many children movies do this and I think it's bad, like children shouldn't being taught that when people die the magic of friendship can bring them back to life like wft

Messages in Disney movies before: Be nice and others will do it too (Snow white) Your kindness and hard work will be rewarded (Cinderella) Follow your dream (Rapunzel) Be honest and brave (Aladdin) Your family is important, take care of her (Lilo and Stitch) They can help us to become better peoples and are easy to understand. The message in Raya and the last dragon: Trust anyone... even the persons who betrayed you or try to kill you. Yeah, that's not stupid and dangerous at all 😂Thank's for the advice disney!

i think what would have gotten the message across better more if Namaari gave Raya the broken stone in the final scene instead of the otherway around, like as a show of being "sorry that everything happened because of me" or something along that line cause we didn't get to see Namarii character arc and didn't get that many scenes for us to see who she is as a character so it isn't really impactful of having her fix the stone it would've made more sense of having Raya doing it making it more impactful final scene cause we saw her gaining trust in people again and losing it, making her fixing the stones as her final character arc and fully trusting everyone again.

I haven't watched this film, however a 'seeing eye to eye' message would have been a better idea than blindly trusting everyone. Not only should Raya learn to trust those that wish her no harm, but Sisu should learn that people can be cruel. And yes, this movie is already a total rip-off of ATLA, but here me out. I think Sisu should have found out that the real reason the dragon's had all died out was because of human cruelty, causing her to question everything she knows in utter shock. Eventually, she comes around and takes what she has learned to grow and become less naive.

tbh i watched this movie bc i love dragons, the oriental ones are my favourite (i love how they don't have wings but can fly) but the design of the dragons make them look like big fluffy snakes fbiejsj i mean, they do have fur, but like a 'strip' that is on their back. other than that they're scaly 😮‍💨 and what's with the unicorn-like horns? (sorry, i'm just obsessed with dragons and wanted talk about the dragons design lmao)

You are way too hard on this movie. The film means that you cannot live an entire life without trusting anyone at all in the whole world. Sure, there are people you can't trust, but NOT EVERYONE is completely untrustworthy. There are actually people you can trust! 😮‍💨👎
@vuivraalbastra
@vuivraalbastra 3 месяца назад
Umm, sure, but the movie literally said trust everyone, including the person who repeatedly betrayed you. Raya's distrust (and btw she has a normal amount of distrust for others, it's not like she's paranoid about some long term allies) is repeatedly proved right by what happens in the movie, she doesn't meet a single person on her journey that's worth her trust (not even Sisu, she is an idiot who got herself killed with her own plan, so Raya shouldn't have trusted her plan). There are trustworthy people in the world, but you need to know how to make the difference between them and the people who will take advantage of your trust, otherwise very bad things can happen to you.
