Lyse also was allowed to fail and be wrong. She made bad calls. She got overwhelmed. She understood a war was going on and there were real stakes behind her choices. Wuk Lamat never actually really struggles or fails. She gets kidnapped once but that's seen as a virtue (she was too trusting) and then later on she loses a fight just to immediately win it afterwards. Lyse also treated the WoL as an equal, often asking for our advice and deferring to us on things we knew better. She also wanted to spar with us to test herself. She was the main character of her story but understood we had our own story as well. Wuk Lamat never asks us for advice or follows our lead. She has the audacity to ask us to stay in her kingdom to serve under her still. Despite all her talk of wanting to get to know everyone she makes no effort to get to know us or the Scions. She's not interested in our story. And that, essentially, is the problem. Lyse was written as a friend. Wuk Lamat was written as a boss.
@BrendetGilch I'm not a big Lyse fan myself and I've been critical of Stormblood's writing as well. But Lyse was handled better as a character even if she was still a victim of bad writing. She did a lot to kind of redeem herself in post msq though. She realized she was no leader and stepped down to pass it to Raubahn, for example. As much as I don't care for Lyse that much I'm a little sad she didn't get to come with us for endgame of Endwalker. She was there at the start - would have still been nice to have her there at the end. Especially the duty where Papalymo's spirit briefly assists. But Lyse's story arc is finished and she's basically retired now. And that's for the best. I'm hoping Wuk Lamat is in a similar scenario now.
I do feel that wuk lamat didnt struggle as much as lyse because we were on her side, having erozeas champion whos killed gods and saved the universe on her side she didnt want for much struggling at all, she knew she could count you no matter what and she was right. Its one of those story things i feel that if you were against her shed have given up a long time ago. Not saying this makes her a great characters but its one of those things i think about when it comes to someone like the wol
Why would wuk follow our lead when it's her right to lead? The scions give her advice, Wuk didn't just struggle with the kignapped but I like how you just dismissed that, or the grief she felt after getting kidnapped and losing the stone, not to mention that entire thing with the alpaca
@@relaxedclaw It is her right to lead her people, not us. We are independent, and were only helping her during the Rite. After that, we were on our own - Thancred and Urianger even say this. We didn't need to follow her anymore and she had no experience in this situation. She gets kidnapped off screen and is immediately saved the very next quest in a cutscene where no stakes happen and no one even gets hurt. She is upset she lost the stones but we know who has them and how to get them back. The Alpaca thing wasn't a struggle - it was played purely for comedy. She succeed her first try to actually go get one, only the shy one at the farm spit at her before she got the saddle. The first time she has to fight anyone directly, she wins (Bakool Ja Ja) and gets her stones back without any issue.
The thing is, I don't care the VA is trans, she just sucks... And I am annoyed that Wuk Lamat was in my face for like 90% of the MSQ... I hope she will be a background character in the future. Because, I don't know if I can stomach her for more then this xpac.
It doesn't help that the Bryer has an autoblock set up on her X account. The other VA have done a great job connecting with the fans, but to me she's a bit petty. I can't unsee the pettyness when I adventure with Wuk Lamat.

People either loved Texas or hated it. I'm in the former camp. Although I really did not like them taking us to the frigging Gateway to City of Gold and saying "yay we won" and walking away. Poor Krile. Poor Warrior of Light. But hey! Wuk won! Yay?
I figured it would and can't wait. I just got to the forest where you get the last keystone and I gotta say, the writing is really basic, off putting, lacking depth and actually made me think "did the writer hand off this section to the game to another writer?" Nothing makes any damn sense.
Why did the writing focus so heavily on Wuk Lamat obsessing over OUR character explicitly when we were all going to Tural as a GROUP? The moment we started the Rite, everyone else went into the rafters while Wuk Lamat became the SOLE focus of the quests. "Talk to Wuk Lamat, Return to Wuk Lamat, Search for Wuk Lamat, Talk to Three People And Then Return To Wuk Lamat". I get that I'm supposed to be her mentor, but there's a reason I refused to hold her hand in that cutscene because she won't pry herself off of me and it's incredibly frustrating. Not even Lyse was this clingy; we had a kinship and EVERYONE was there to support her as best they all could, but apart from Krile, no one else had any significant value to the MSQ. Focus dialogue was 70% Wuk Lamat, 15% Krile, 10% Alisaie, and 5% everybody else mixed in. Villains that could have been fleshed out to be more sympathetic had the limelight stolen by this golden child that had very little growth and need for 'cultivation'. Even Koana was a breath of fresh air compared to Wuk Lamat, and that's what I can't fathom. How did the team fail spectacularly this time around? What actually went wrong to the point where this expansion felt rushed, and at the same time, such a slog? This is a genuine concern for me, since this could be telling of what we are expecting moving forward. Just give me Manderville and make it all better, please!
You know the funny thing about Lyse and why I never hated her while I do hate Wuk Lamat. As you said, Lyse is the main character but she isn't suffocating. We spend plenty of time with Lyse but also Hien, someone who a lot of players forget is equally prominent as Lyse. Now Lyse's issue was that she had to contend not with the main character spotlight but the shadow of Yda. And in fairness to the people who dislike her, Lyse did fail to live up to that expectation her sister set. Arguably failed miserably.
I don't know what ARR you played, but I was looking forward to what was next when it ended. Exploring Ishgard, clearing my name, eventually getting back at the Syndicate and their cronies, finding the missing scions, figuring out what Lahabrea was doing and learning more about the Ascians in general.... Is Gaius still alive??? etc etc. The only think I am looking forward to when I completed Dawntrail MSQ was... never seeing Wuk Lamat again and leaving Tural as fast as I can.
@@DKarkarov I did mention that ARR set up a lot of great organic and interesting stories. I just think Dawntrail’s execution was handled a bit better. I found some of it to be interesting, but with ARR being almost double the length of Dawntrail’s MSQ, it was just a slog the whole time. And the dungeons and trials just felt so bland.
Warning: ARR appreciator here :). Yes ARR is dated but it's a great story. They took their time in ARR. We learned about the problems, the political complexities, the factions. We got betrayed, we built a team - and lost them too. I initially loved Tural and the exploration of the zones and cultures, until I began to see they were a mere vehicle for Wuk Lamat to mansplain (womansplain?) to me the importance of mutual understanding. Eorzea is still fraught with conflict and problems, but we solved everything in Dawntrail with a couple of sit-down meals and the promise of seeds from Sharlayan. They could have taken inspiration from the messy nuance and complexity of Eorzea and brought it up to date here. Instead we got this well-intentioned but strangely superficial story.

I think a huge problem in Dawntrail’s story-telling is it holding your hand for you to understand the big plot point where ARR didn’t do that. You kind of experienced things organically for sure, which can make the story a lot better in so many ways

@MystisNykoto in many ways this mirrors Stormblood. Stormblood tried to tell two stories while using other protagonists in the spotlight (Lyse and Hien). It is considered to have a bad MSQ but many of the duties and especially raids were well loved and class gameplay for many classes was near peak. Dawntrail also tries to kind of tell two different stories barely connected but Wok Lamat stays present for both. The MSQ is again very weak but the content and gameplay is good.
Played through the whole msq and halfway through thought to myself “this really just feels like one big beast tribe quest” and sure enough, the writers of it have previously worked on beast tribe quests…I miss ishikawa
We've played second fiddle to other characters before and that's fine, but in previous expansions our actions still had consequences, we'd often quickly gain notoriety for our willingness to help people or stand up in the face of danger even if our title as Warrior of Light wasn't wildly known, other characters pulling us along the narrative never got in the way of that before they got their character arcs and we got to be heroes and it was fine for the most part. The issue is with Dawntrail (and to a lesser extent with Zero's story arc) we are pushed back into the background of cut scenes (literally) just nodding or thumbs uping Wuk Lamat every time she opens her mouth to say something dumb, I can only think of maybe three or four times the WoL was properly acknowledged by a major character, otherwise Wuk Lamat was given all the credit for our hard work with the end of the final trial being the most insulting part of that issue in the writing. I wouldn't have minded babysitting Wuk Lamat so much if she actually had some kind of character arc, she may have claimed to understood her people more by the end of the succession trials but she was still the same person she was in Endwalker, awkward slapstick, an inability to think ahead and constant need to preach about the power of friendship and understanding in a world that's made it crystal clear we cant be friends with everyone in the past. It became tiresome by zone 3, it should be telling my favourite zone was the one where she had no part in the story. The best way to describe Wuk Lamat is a DnD player who desperately needs to be in the spot light at all times, a player who cant stand not being the centre of attention shoving their way into a leadership role or into someone's moment even when it doesn't make any sense. The meme that shes attached to our hip this expansion is completely true, the WoL isn't even permitted to go sleep in their room without her banging on the door so she gets more camera time. The fact that the majority of quest directions are some kinda variation of "Speak to Wuk Lamat" is an issue, Lyse and Zero had their writing issues but it was never this bad, and I have a really bad feeling the writers are gonna double down on this character and not have bow out of the MSQ going forward like Lyse more or less did.

She is a ruler that is not even ruling she is travelling aroung doing nothing. A ruler without the Charisma, the charm and the moral rectitude and sense of duty of characters like Merlwyb, Raubahn, Aymeric or Kan-E-Senna. These are rulers Wuk Lamat is too busy eating around and venturing for fun to ever be considered a leader. I would follow those guys to hell and back, and we did it many times, but even when in EW I met the first time Wuk Lamat asking me to go with her I would have wanted to choose the missing answer: "How about NO!?"

I get we're the mentor now, but I feel like the new writers fail to understand that they can't just push a new character permanently into the group after they've received a poor reception and expect players to be fine with it. I'll take Koana, he's a down to Earth character who knows what he's doing. Wuk Lamat strikes me as the type who'd run headlong into danger without considering the consequences.
Even outside of the issues you refuse to talk about, her English VA is just bad. There's no proper inflection or emotion in the voice. The accent is forced and feels very fake. Literally made me switch to JP which makes the character infinitely more likable.
@@Cocytus127 In my brain, my refusal to speak on Sena Bryer was more or less surrounding the hate due to her personal life. I can agree at a lot of points the voice acting isn’t really all that great too, but I didn’t really have a problem with it too much. That’s why I chose not to include it, ya know? Interesting take on switching languages! I’ll have to do the same to compare haha
What weirds me out about Dawntrail is that it’s not like CBU3’s story team doesn’t know how to write a compelling character who starts off with obvious character flaws and then grows to become a more wholistic and well-rounded leader of their own people/group/what have you. I don’t understand why when said character’s arc is the primary plot of the story, they write it in a way that ends up dividing the fan base so much.
As a crafter, I hated how a material needed to craft 92+ gear was locked behind level 96 in the msq. As far as the story, I didn't like it much until late in the Texas zone.
God that zone instantly made me happy because I was traveling with Erenville and had BELIEVED I wasn't going to speak to Wuk Lamat again. That and I love the Wild West vibes. Absolutely loved the energy there.
Yes that was a mess the Bananas level 91 with the Mamol Ja also and i was getting them as Grand Company deliveries day 1. Seems they want to impose the players to first to the story and then crafting and gathering you do them later. So even what to do and when to do it is no longer a choice.
Finished DT and my conclusion is I don't wanna see Wuk Lamat ever again. Horrendous character. MSQ only got good when I traveled with my boy Erenville (the star of the show imo)
She NEEDS to have someone challenge her world view. Her peace and happiness stuff needs to to be countered by an opposing world view. Zoraal Ja was clearly supposed to but he doesnt. Her world view, ideals and philosphies are all the same but are never challenged and the stories written to paint her in the right, which i would argue is what makes her feel so one dimensional the whole way through from 90 to 100 she sings the same tune. And its draining by the time your done with the rite. But she sticks around and by the end you just want her to fuck off and let me do things.
My biggest problem was the shift in quality of writing. It was so jarring that I was questioning if they tried to save money by handing it off to some unknown intern. I'm going to hold off on a full judgemental until 7.3 where DT will "end" but I genuinely started laughing at points due to how bad the writing got. Here's to hoping they do the same thing as with Wuk as Lyse and she dissappears from msq to run her country
Please let Wuk Lamat be left behind in Tural; I considered skipping DT in general in the future while taking my time with the previous expansions (that'll be the plan if they don't deliver in the patches to come from the posting of this comment).
Our WoL was not simply "not the main character" - our WoL of light was virtually erased in Dawntrail, as were the Scions. If the MSQ isn't about the WoL, some players will not be happy, as our life as an adventurer and hero has been the story so far. Lyse being something of an exception and SE paid a price for that decision. I thought they had learned something. But Wuk takes over this story and sidelines the WoL far more than Lyse ever did. Whether or not I like Wuk Lamat (and I don't - she's ARR Alphinaud without the comeuppance he got for his self-centered naivete) sidelining my WoL was not the adventure I had been anticipating.
I had a feeling it wasnt going to be a beach vacation that we were promised. I mean, how could it be if we're helping someone we barely know become the new head of state? My favorite part in the MSQ was when Wuk Lamat FINALLY left the party to be Hokage and I was doing stupid hero shit in fantasy Texas. Catching banditos with pterodactyl shit was the dumbest and most enjoyable part of the MSQ.

But at least I was walking away with Erenville to do some random Adventurer questing. I saw more players RP glamoured in Shaaloani than anywhere besides Solution 9 so we weren't the only ones who liked this zone :).
Here's an alternative path that could have happened instead... Evil lizard tyrant person wins The rite of succession WoL and the scions without Wuk Lamat showing up: these random lizard people are attacking Garlamald? Okay cool let's go defend our new allies And a mini war-battle happens that leads into Dawntrail AND then you are introduced to a Wuk Lamat that tried a trial of succession but failed to do it all by herself and her new story would be about her trying to redeem herself, make up for her failures and end the war while saving her country.
The best X.00 content we’ve ever had, and rightfully so, for the normal dungeons and trials it wouldnt make sense for them to be easier mechanically. But yeah, the story really has fallen flat for me, and I’m really not understanding a lot of the defensiveness I’m seeing on twitter for the valid criticism and instead just bunching that criticism in with as you said in your video, the disgusting hate towards Wuk Lamat’s actress.
@@darraghhhhh I got off twitter after awhile because a lot of the criticism is unwarranted in regard to voice acting and stuff. I think her voice is fine. It’s just the way Square handled her character that left me a little disgruntled haha

The problem I have with it on Twitter and the official forums is that it's usually not actually just criticism, it's vitriolic whining and often actual hate towards the devs as well as people really reaching for things to hate on purpose. A lot of '' criticism '' online just comes across as extremely petty and like people are trying too hard to be mad or they're just overall very shitty about how they deliver it. I think that's where a lot of the defensiveness comes from too, not saying all of it does but some of it at least. There's a lot of people who hide behind '' it's just criticism bro '' but then they're extremely shitty and vitriolic about it. The forum and reddit in particular is especially bad about this, I remember seeing someone on the official forum with like 80 new threads in a month all of them negative and with huge walls of text and almost all of it except for the last bit was just personal attacks and insults towards the developers and insulting people enjoying things. There's a difference between just criticism that actually is reasonable and with going completely crazy about it. I also think a lot of people just don't want to be surrounded by people they think sound whiny. At some point it becomes annoying when you're trying to enjoy something and then some people are just actively complaining 24/7, it's exhausting to a lot of people too. It's why I stopped using the official forum altogether because reading it gave me a headache on a daily basis it's one of the most whiny and petty places on the internet who have hated everything the devs do since day 1 of the game.
Pacing on this xpac was horrid. The world is going to end once again and everyone is going to die-ish and we have to go around meeting people before we can save it?! On top of that, the last zone is insanely sick looking and I’m sure there was so much development time and resources put into it just to waste it and never get to see it all again? We go from an amazing colorful vibrant zone to a dull piece of “insert word here”…. What a waste.. we went from an amazing theme park land to a volcano ridden Jurassic Park after movie landscape. They left it a little open ended so they might be able to change it back with a reboot, but I don’t believe they’ve ever done something like that before so fingers crossed.
Felt like two different people wrote the first and second halves of the MSQ, but the second writer had to try and salvage what happened from the first one. In theory the expac could've been great with the same story beats, but everything the execution was just off. Wuk Lamat asking me to serve under her and call her Lamaty'i really rubbed me the wrong way cuz giiiirl I've known you for like 2 days I am packing my bags. I think you used the word I was looking for which is "forced". The writing in Dawntrail feels massivly forced at a huge expanse to the writing quality. The writing feels so unfamiliar that I often found myself asking if I was even playing the same game. Even the scions act out of character. Then I would see the kind of cutscenes that you know were probably going to be voice acted due to the change in animation and camera placements only to be shocked that they weren't. What the he is going on with our game?
Same here, love overall experience that dt had to offer but at the same time I kept thinking, just wish it was a bit more. I was also annoyed at wuk and her being center stage 99% of the time certainly did not help. But I am also in the category of people that dislikes a naive and clumsy leader. Never have liked that because it does not make sense to me even in a fantasy setting. And worst of all, she never grew up. She still had the annoyingly optimistic “let’s be friends” and “power of friendship wins the day” attitude. I am ok with power of friendship and all that jazz if I actually felt like I was friends with the character. But relationship with her is forced and not at all that deep. I also felt like the calling her nickname was forced and got annoying, she did nothing to deserve my characters endearment. It was forced and shoved down my throat unwillingly and that is why I dislike the character even more.
It's not like the character being voice acted by a trans has nothing to do with the issue. It's a very easy way to deflect from the poor writing and voice acting by simply claiming hate, transphobia, harassment, etc.
The voice acting for here english va is rancid and no im not attacking her for being trans, I may be christian but I don't attack people for their choice. The reason I hate her voice is that there isnt much change, and some people say, "oh well the accent makes it sound that way" HAVE YOU HEARD ERENVILLE? BAKOOL JA JA? ANYBODY IN TURALLLLLL???????? They have way more depth and honestly talent, maybe it's the director but I doubt it bc the rest of the voice acting for english was great as always. It honestly takes me out of the immersion of the game when she speaks. As much as I don't like people being replaced, I think it's best to find someone new for her voice and I'm sticking to that. I can't take her seriously. Koana would have been a better fit for the new main-ish character.

The Dawntrail MSQ is boring and poorly written. This includes the character of Wuk Lamat which is the weakest character in FF14. The entire concept of the expansion is just wrong. The biggest mistake is the missed opportunities. We didn't need a character pulling us to Tural. We had Krile's mysterious package. THINK of the missed opportunities of the WoL going to Tural and NOT being known. 1. The WoL, Krile, and the twins could have had to AUDITION for Wuk Lamat's entourage so they can access the Golden City. Imagine the humor of having one of the MSQ quests be about the WoL fighting like a random level 26 archer and having to hold back. 2. The trials for succession were PAINFULLY boring. Imagine if the first trial was group combat and the WoL, Wuk Lamat, and Krile square off against Koana, Thancred, and Urianger. . . and that is the FIRST moment they realize you are in Tural too. . . Thancred could be brave but Urianger could be so fatalistic knowing they were going to lose to the Warrior of Light!!! 3. Wuk Lamat could discover WHO YOU ARE and freak out over it. 4. The rite of ascension could be a side show to the larger story of the Golden City and MAN isn't it lucky that the WoL is here to help stop [Insert Large Danger from Golden City Here]. So many missed opportunities for humor and fun with the characters we've already met and fallen in love with.
I wish the whole vacation vibe STAYED a vacation then had the "late game" have more story We're here having fun and bad things are happened already yet we don't that. So we're still enjoying mini games and low risk questing. Yet nothing feels railroaded like you can play how you want and it doesn't hurt the plot. That would have been better to me, let me breathe a bit before having me mentor or give a REAL choice. It's like going on vacation yet you got sick the moment you got to the hotel and then it started raining. You feel stuck and everything is out of your control.
Also I think Wuk Lamat was introduced so soon as she was because you know the hype of the fan base that was rabidly raving about " OMG guyzz! Female Hrothgar whens it getting here?! "
Pretty sure people were "also" rabidly raving for Male Viera to the point their "fanbase" refer a thread named "Hrothgar and Viera" the opposite by saying Viera first. Can be even said when referring to the hat mod.
My problem is that she is constantly talking about nothing and repeating her self on every dialogue and cutscene. Also I don't care about the VA, they did their job as a VA and that's it. The English VA for her was annoying and boring for me. I have no reason to attack a VA for the horrible writing of the character and MSQ. Anyone that attacks a VA for doing their job is just dumb and needs to seek help. Some ppl enjoy/love her because they like that kind of personality and that's fair but those same ppl saying we are wrong for our opinions need to get out of their bubble more. (I'm not saying touch grass or go out, I'm saying try to talk to ppl outside of your friend/family circle). The other problem is again I believe is the writing team fault, the constant forcing of her being in every point of the story for no reason just to repeat her self. Lyse was not like Wuk Lamat at all she was never constantly forced on you. Lyse did not constantly repeat her self specially with useless dialogue. You actually get separated from Lyse giving you a break from he character and introduce other with out lyse taking the spotlight for no reason. I stand that this expac is ok at best and the writing team was lazy. They copied and pasted a lot from other expacs and it's very ez to tell.
Wuk is just the fursona of Lyse. It's Wuk Lysemat. Wuk is what happens if you take the worst of Stormblood and try your hardest to make it even worse. I refuse to believe that they accidentally made me feel almost slightly sorry for thinking that Lyse was the worst major character in the game. With Lyse I can say that she at least has some personality, aside from her lamenting about the suffering of her people. The voice acting was alright, because I fully believe that not even the voice actors of Zenos or Emet-Selch could've saved it, even if they tried. The direction was awful and the VA is getting all the blame. But he greatest of all crimes is that Hrothgars (and Viera, I suppose) still barely got any good hats. They got so few hats, and even fewer good looking ones! Making glam for them is still a challenge compared to everyone else! You better believe that this is a grudge - and that goes straight into the Great Book Of Grudges! The disappointment of my drip is immeasurable, the expansion is ruined.
The best thing they can do now is write her off as a loss and move on. We can say hi once in awhile. It's as much as Hien or Aymeric ever get from us and they were far more engaging.

The reason you can't see Aymeric and Hein anymore despite being likeable great characters is that they are also great leaders who care about their people. In other words, unlike Wuk Lamat they don't have a crutch like Koana they can just pawn all their actual responsibilities on to justify not doing their jobs.
I rly dunno why Lyse gets so much hate... Her writing made perfect sense, she had been sheltered most of her life from the war and suffering and been around strong people like the scions ( and the WoL ) who solve most problems with violence. The WoL in particular especially when the Empire is involved just shows up and punches them in the face and solves the issue. It makes sense she'd be extremely naive, and her taking over the resistance is just '' main character '' stuff they wanted someone we the player had a connection with to do it because it makes us in turn feel more connected to the resistance and what's going on as well. It happened to be the right decision too as the post MSQ shows, the post MSQ in Stormblood is where Lyse's actual growth that happened in the base MSQ shows and she's very different. Lyse is actually really well-written in Stormblood imo she has a ton of flaws that she grows to overcome and better herself on and her flaws makes perfect sense from the pov of going in with blinders on and unraveling things for the player too. Some people just seem to want to hate her for stupid reasons too like '' OWMGMGEW WHY IS SHEEE WHITE!!?!?!? '' which is a common stupid ass complaint I see. No one asks this shit when characters in other regions are dark skinned, FFXIV's demographics are mostly diverse it's not that hard to believe that her mother was light skinned I mean ffs we've got black people with blonde hair in the game or pink hair lmao. If people want to apply irl historical demographics to the game which makes no sense to begin with, black people wouldn't end up with blonde hair without probably some very VERY long term and large scale intermixing. And if you asked why a character is black when they exist in European inspired regions of the setting people would attack you and call you a racist for asking about it or say it doesn't matter. But then suddenly when it's Lyse everyone starts pearl clutching about it.
No, Lyse is fine. Wuk Lamat's writing is much more insufferable for her. As someone who was neutral on Lyse, I honestly gained a new appreciation for her after this expansion. At the very least Lyse gave us plenty of room to breath and do things by ourselves in the story in comparison.
I don't even know what my opinion is about her. Because I haven't replayed Stormblood on a different alt for 7 years. And whenever I make an alt (sometimes for trying out other races or regional dc's) I usually reach and get bored around post heavensward which is the moment I would have used a story skip. (So far skipped to Shadowbringers in 5.x and Endwalker in 6.0)
How does someone that is seemingly intelligent and articulate can so easily resort to such reductive and empty terms like “hate” in a conversation about the voice actor? It’s baffling to me how common sense and critical thinking just goes out the door once the cult is perceived to be threatened.
I definatly agree with the quality of the writting being worse in base dawntrail but I find it hilarious the stuff people are expecting from 7.0. They litteraly told us its a new story and will take time to build im expecting the .x patches to be where it actually gets good like how they adjusted in ARR but people need to stop comparing thr new patch to post ARR content lol
From someone that is thoroughly against woke, if you think her character is woke just cause it was voice by a trans woman, then you are full of crap. Didn't get any woke vibes from this expansion. I agree on the points in the video. Would also add that the maps are amazing, however I do feel like Heritage Found feels rushed. You did have some missions on the second part of the map (other side of the wall), but the 1st part of the map is very dead and basically useless. It was also rushed through from a story perspective. In contrast, look how much content was on Shaaloani and the story there was basically almost detached from the main plot.
I think she's woke because she's written as a typical girlboss. I had no idea that her english VA is trans, since I've only ever played the japanese version of the game.
I didn't find Wuk any more or less shonen than any other character of the scions? Maybe except thancred in shadowbringers. I enjoyed her much more in the first part since her uplifting character went well with the story setting. In the second she felt a little out of place but so did all the scions, just Krile and Erenville as main cast for that would have been 10 times better.
What's bad people were already skipping a lot to get ready for this point... Only for them to keep on skipping, that's bad for something modern that you should want to engage with. Yet that's how I felt about FF14 everything is fun but the yapping. I don't mind the legwork yet damn let me do it. I don't need a novel right before a hit things for 5mins.
I can't agree in the slightest that her character development starts at zero and ends at zero. Really early on in the story we automatically see a quick shift from her trying to be more understanding and more patient with the people she's meeting versus being gunho and just trying to solve a problem and then landing on her face. By the end of the story Lamati is doing literally everything she can to make sure that she understands and also verbally goes against what someone believes if it seems like it's harming them. Until eventually she's forced to take action which she very openly doesn't want to do, but still does so with honor and compassion. Like you said, she's very shonen jump protagonist and that's something that's pretty new to final Fantasy 14. And I'd argue that it's really nice change of pace or at least a nice execution of it.
@@basilnottheherb it’s definitely something hard to get used to! I think my choice of words can kind of be misjudged. I don’t think she started and ended at 0, I just feel like her more progressive attitude near the second half of the MSQ just feels so quick and forced. It didn’t really give me a chance to even grow to appreciate her fully because it didn’t feel very genuine. But I definitely see what you’re saying and I agree it’ll be a nice change of pace after some time passes. We definitely can’t have gloom and doom again 😂
@@BrendetGilch She started at Zero and as soon as she left the starting town she ended at 1, by the end of the expansion she was at 1.5. She has grown barely at all throughout the entire story. The main frustration I have with her is that she is a broken record. "I want to get to know them". Which was fine when she was dealing with her people and her country, but when Alexandria gets introduced... this is an invading enemy nation that is hell bend on destroying you. They also put a time limit on how long you have to act before they come to annihilate you. STOP WASTING TIME TRYING TO KNOW THEM. Deal with the problem first then learn about them later. The only reason the Blessed Son didn't win was because he got arrogant and gave us a chance "so the story can happen" The writing was also part of the blame because it allows Wut Lamat to do this and had waves away any consequences that might have resulted for her terrible actions. The entire last zone was just learning about a people we are literally erasing from existence 3 minutes later all while the BBEG is getting ready to wipe us out from existence. The plot facilitates this waste of time by saying "we can only stop her at a very specific time which will coincidentally time up with you being finished with all this time wasting" And all of this feeds into our dislike for Wuk Lamat because the game forces us to not only to go along with it but refuses to give us an option to disagree. We also don't see Wuk Lamat grow... she just gets stronger whenever she needs to be. She does no training she goes through no struggles, she never loses yet when faced with a person she's supposed to be weaker than (And we only know this because the story tells us, not shows us) she magically becomes stronger than them. Even in a good shonen show the MC loses, gets stronger, struggles. Wuk Lamat doesn't. She's a Mary Sue from day one
@@onewingedangelo1611 Wuk Lamat's whole arc SHOULD have been a tie in anime before DT so ALL that we had play bystander with is all gone. Wuk did everything herself, she failed and succeded without the WoL at her side during al of it. So at least it would have felt like she earned it, like she isn't a Mary Sue at all she just sucks yet that's because the whole writing of the aspects of the story NEEDS everybody involved be some level of stupid for it to work. Including on the WoL and Scions part. A lot of the story feels like would change if we as the WoL could voice our opinion and it have impact. Like it should...
