My Problems with the Hornady Precision Measurement Station

The Hornady Precision Measurement Station was introduced recently and looked very appealing to me. Precisely what I have been looking for when bump-sizing brass or seating bullets. A solution that allows me to get more consistent measurements without having to handle calibers all the time.
Unfortunately, I'll be returning this product. Let me use this occasion to illustrate my problems with the station.

I have the same issues with it that you have. But it looks really cool on my bench so I'm keeping it 🙂

Nice ;) I made a second video lately about a similar setup I built myself. In that video, I am using a different method to measure - the insert attached to the gauge - which works amazingly well and should also work with the Hornady! Maybe that helps get the most out of your station.

How can I find the red base you use in your caliper? What's its name? I think it can be useful having a flat surface to place the brass...

Hornady sells them - but I do NOT recommend them. They gave me lots of issues with my measurements since they weren't machined perfectly and wouldn't align with the measurement insert. I stopped using them!

@@Riccardo_V_Florio Mostly Sinclair and Short-Action-Customs. The SAC-System is really nice if you can afford them and the Hornady sets are great for a beginner to get setup. The Sinclair inserts work with the Hornady system so it's a nice way to add higher quality inserts to your setup if you have a Hornady set

Das Problem mit dem genauen Ablesen von analogen Messinstrumenten, wenn der Winkel nicht stimmt, kenne ich auch von meiner Balkenwaage. Deshalb habe ich sie auch auf Augenhöhe in ein Regal gestellt. Das ist zwar wenig komfortabel, aber als einzige andere Lösung für das Problem, käme mir eine Kamera mit Display in den Sinn. Also ein Smartphone mit geeigneter Halterung. Früher gab es wohl für solche Probleme auch Linsensysteme mit 45° Ablenkung des Strahlengangs, so das man bequem im Sitzen ablesen konnte. So etwas habe ich aber noch nirgendwo im Angebot gesehen.

Obviously, you want to micro-manage your loads to the extreme. No Hornady measurement does that. They do a good enough job but not anywhere near as good as Sinclair. Personally, I think the tool is adequate. You can get good measurements but they are not fast. Honestly speed and accurate readings do not go hand in hand. Digital gauges are easier to read, but they also have issues that a dial does not. You can easily see run out with the dial not so much with a digital.
