Was definitely a quanitity person in my early 20s I was looking for answers to anxiety and fear and getting over my own mind for the most part. Realized a few years ago that setting a reading goal is only pushing me to get through the book and not enjoy them. Much more focused on finding reads I truly enjoy and letting myself sink into the world without feeling the pressure to complete the book as fast as possible. Great video!

Okay so I typically don't watch older videos of channels I'm subscribed to (just because the info may not be relevant), BUT I'm so glad I watched this one! I've been getting into non-fiction books more over the past few months, and I LOVE the stickers you made! I'll be trying them out with a few books I'm going to be finishing, although I might put the stickers in my reading journal just in case I end up not keeping every book I finish. Thank you so much Caitlin!

I loved this video, it felt like chatting with a friend 💛 I've gotten back into reading a LOT this year but now I'm in a bit of a slump. This really motivated me to get reading again! Also, today I found my mom's long-lost copy of Wuthering Heights that I've been looking for for weeks. I tried to read it almost 3 years ago but got bored and stopped. After hearing so many good reviews I figured I stopped too soon and decided to give it another chance! I hope I do like it lol

I had a great reading year in 2020 and so I put a lot of pressure on myself to read 100 (same goal) books this year. I quickly fell off pace at the beginning of March. So glad to hear your thoughts on quality over quantity, Caitlin!

Caitlin - i love book talks!!! especially review on non -fiction good reads. i recently started reading my ereader again and its been so good for my headspace . agree the Kobo is the best to borrow books from toronto public library and i do the same where im usually reading a non-fiction book and novel.

I used to be an AVID reader growing up, but I lost it for a while in highschool. Now that I’m in uni I’m getting back into it and I just finished “The Dictionary of Love Words”. A heartbreaker if ever there was one! 😢

Loved this video especially the just read stickers. I was looking for ways to remember what I read as I tend to forget. I mostly read my fiction books on kindle, I'll have to find a digital way to incorporate the sticker idea for those books.

I’ve been in a big 5 year book slump, really since I graduated college, so I’ve been slowly getting back into it. I used to be this big avid reader. Like you couldn’t catch me without a book haha. And I was feeling bad about not doing that anymore but then I also came to the conclusion that it was ok to take a break and make my heart yearn for books again. I kind of cut myself off from all things book related, meaning I used to follow a lot of booktubers, bookstagrammers, and I even used to have a bookstagram. Though I loved those communities, I felt like I need to cut myself off of them because I had put this pressure on myself to read and collect every single book. Now I don’t do what’s popular in the moment. I’m going back to just going to the bookstore, the library, Amazon or Barnes and Noble and looking at books and seeing if their description connects with me like I used to. Every now and then I’ll look up a popular recommendation if it genuinely sounds good to me. I really loved this video 💜😊🥲

I read a lot as well. As an only child, books were my friends! I read every night when I crawl into bed and I have for many many many years. As someone who reads a lot I kind of don’t understand the reading goal concept. I’m going to read and that’s just the way it is. I would like to add non-fiction in morning though

I actually have a pretty similar reading schedule except the nighttime session is only 15-20 minutes bc Netflix is too enticing lol. I am usually reading 3 books at once with one being an audiobook for commuting on the bus.

What a fun video! My all time favorite book is The Hobbit, followed by The Lord of the Ring series. 😻 The Martian was fantastic, as was Project Hail Mary (the beginning may be a little slow, but the rest of the book is worth it). Children’s books worth reading as an adult, The Wild Robot, The Graveyard Book and The One and Only Ivan. Other books that I greatly enjoyed and would recommend: The Great Alone, The Midnight Library, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, The Silent Patient, The Good Sister, A Man Called Ove, Britt-Marie Was Here, Practical Demon Keeping (hilarious), The Rosie Project, Ross Poldark (and the entire Poldark series), The Woman in the Photo, Brooklyn, and the Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. Also, for non-fiction, I really enjoyed The Sound of a Snail Eating at Night.

To retain what you just read there’s a way works with me I definitely ensure that will work with you guys as well, the way is talk about what you just read with others and try to say to them an information or an idea from that book it’s genuinely useful and you’ll never forget it.

I see non fiction/self-help books as workbooks. And you are supposed to write/mark things in workbooks.

I think an important point you missed in the case on non-fiction books is check the credentials of the authors because not all authors are trustworthy or know too little about a subject.

You should put an idea into a story or vizualize it, it will help you retain information. You could also imagine how you would explain it to someone else.

There was a year that my goal was to read 100 books, may have been 2018? I mostly read horror fiction books and some political non fiction. There is a book that kept getting suggested to me on Amazon and Audible where of course the premise and (yes i judge books by the cover sometimes) the cover art were intriguing. I decided to queue this book next in goodreads AND TURNS OUT, I READ IT IN 2018! Do I remember it? No! Did my review of it say I enjoyed it? NAH! Am I still rereading it? Of course I am! Because I am curious to know what made this book SO forgettable. Now that I am about 80% of the way through the book for the second time, I still have the same feeling that I don’t super LOVE it. But my review of it from 2018 said that I didn’t feel like the author tied up all the loose ends in the various plots. But this time I feel like I am able to give more attention to the story because I am not under pressure to “FINISH and move on.” All this is to say, there is VALUE in the statement ‘quality over quantity’. This year, I feel like my brain isn’t overburdened with the amount of information you have to take in to read 100 books a year. So even if I still don’t love this book, I have a feeling I will at least remember reading it and know WHY I didn’t love it, and I call that a bigger win than simply saying “Oh I read 100 books this year” which is STILL impressive to say the least, but I would rather remember what I read, because that is what fuels creativity and growth.
