Hello Danae, I have watched this and others of your videos. I intend to watch them all. You are a real inspiration. Piano is the love of my life and although I wanted to play piano when I was 7 my family didn't have one. So I didn't start until I was 15 and actually went to music college on horn as first subject. However technical problems weren't dealt with until much later in life. Your videos have been so helpful. Thank you.

Even though it's quite difficult, apparently warming up by improvising and incorporating various technical devices (scales, octaves, arpeggios, etc) is one of the best ways. There's some great videos of George Cziffra doing this at an extremely high level.

Hello Danae, I really love your technique-warmup, and I am making it part of my technique routine since 5 months now. I have a couple questions for you that I wish you could kindly answer: 1. I feel tension in my right hand playing "Mozart's Trill" when I switch to 3rd and 4th finger position, is this normal because of the unnatural movement ? (I watched also your other video in depth and I'm trying always to relax my hands..) 2. When you do the arpeggio part, (I mean at Min. 15:55 ) you switch between 1-2-3-5 ; 1-2-4-5 fingerings ; or you keep it 1-2-3-5 for every key of a different scale ? 3. The most important question I have, I don't know if I should play this excercises with a "forte" dynamic for build my technique, or I should build some phrasing to the dynamics goung "piano to forte" , because I think that the best way to do this excercises is to do it in "forte" for strenghten my fingers, ( I am using a heavy ( for real lol) weighted digital piano from Yamaha to practice technique). I am aware of course that I have to relax my shoulders, elbows,etc.. What are your thoughts on my questions ? I would be so much grateful if you find a bit of time to reply. Thanks for changing my life in a better way, also my technique, I really need an excellent guide like you.

I love this video! Building technique through warmups is THE way to go, in my opinion. I grew up doing the same old routine. Change it up by FIRST listening/watching closely this video. You will make more progress than you thought possible. Just do it!

Amazing video!! I love your advice on having minimum movement when playing fast, it is something I'm working towards recently. May I ask you a question please, Danae? How would you advise me on keeping my inner pulse/tempo without over-reliance on the metronome? Thank you so much and I feel so grateful for having you on RU-vid. 🙏🙏🙏❤️
Год назад
I like to visualize an actual conductor indicating the pulse with his hands - I find that this creates a very natural sounding pulse and helps me keep steady without using the metronome.

Oh wow, I'm dying here, Danae, but I love it :) Working on the fifth finger while the others are 'sleeping,' as your teacher put it, feels so weird. I don't know why it never occurred to me to practice like that. Strangely, though, with my left hand (I'm not left-handed), I'm able to do it easily. Love the video, thank you so much for moving me up to a new place.

Danae, have you ever had a day when even the music you know well doesn’t want to flow through you fingers? No matter what I did today I could not focus! My study was a disaster so I went to my favorites and after a few songs that I messed up I gave up.. I know you are very busy and you probably went over this before, so if you get a chance and become very bored, ok !
Год назад
Of course this can happen and it is totally normal, we all have „off“ days! Nothing to worry about and tomorrow, you will be back in it. :)

Hi Danae ! Your video is now my warm up ⭐⭐ It makes me a little sad to see that I’m not as fast as you. Did you have that speed at the very beginning ? Do you think that by following your warm-up I can achieve the same speed ?
Год назад
Absolutely not, I started much much slower! It is totally normal to start at a much slower speed and gradually work yourself up to get faster. All the best for you!

Das ist super interessant, vielen Dank! Bei einigen Übungen erschließt sich mir allerdings nicht, warum oder wofür Du das übst. Was bringt welche Übung? Präzision oder Schnelligkeit oder Stärke oder alles? Welche Übungen empfiehlst Du für Anfänger (2,5 Jahre)? Alles Liebe!
Год назад

When you are holding one finger and playing another repetitively I notice you are dropping your wrist - is that ok on warmups?

How do you increase your speeds to this level? I'm a two year old pianist and my piano teacher of 8 months does not want to teach me about playing fast 🤣. I just want to increase my speed as slow as possible and would love to learn how to do it professionally.

Practice slow
Год назад
Practicing slowly and properly is very important and then gradually increasing the speed is helpful. Here is a link to a video that I made exactly in that subject: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MAt5vsZ2xxY.html Hope this helps!

Instead of exercises, I play excerpts of pieces to warm-up. Do you think this could work as well?

Absolutely! I have many colleagues that do that and, especially if you already have a good technical foundation, this can work very well!

I love your tutorials. They would be a lot easier to follow--though if you would demonstrate your explanations at the piano instead of using your other hand in lieu the piano which is right beside you. I cannot understand the second finger exercise at .25 speed. Also, why the second finger? I don't think you explain why the second finger?

Hi Danae, thank you so much for this example according to ' how to warm up'. Currently I'm practicing "trios movements de petrouchka' and "Paganini -variations' by Brahms. I'm working as a MD ( surgery) and sometimes I've approx. 2 hrs time to practice . How do ya think about to 'warm up' directly with that scores? Of course: my individual warm up starts always with Bach ( whatever- partitas, English- suites, Goldberg-variations) and I never use the right pedal ( sostenuto) and warm up always very slow....What is more efficient? I'm not sure. That's why I'm asking. Your strategy works- do doubt and it makes sense! Like it!
