My Story & recovery from a 33-day coma / TBI / the motivation behind IT'S ALL ABOUT THE COCKTAIL
Here is what happened the night I was unconscious and in a coma for 33 days as a result of being ejected from a car after a night of drinking and driving. This is what drove me to create a place where I can share my passion for making quality cocktails at home and not have to go out, Thus saving money and lessening the possibility of drinking and driving.

Thank you, Brian, for liking it. I want to create an intro that quickly explains my story so that people get it up front. It gets frustrating sometimes, but kind words like yours really keep me going.

Thanks friend! I asked them at the hospital if they wanted me to talk to head injury families and they said, No, it might give false hope - not everyone comes back I haven't done many videos lately because working my full time job gives me headaches, but I have SO much planned and retiring next week. Stay tuned for great stuff to come....

@@itsallaboutthecocktail At the costco I go to the domestic Vodka is 12$ and the imported is 14$. I'm told tat the 12$ one should only be used for mixing though and is not good straight.

Usually, neither are bought to drink straight, but if that's what you're into would suggest a premium brand.

Hey Ray, greetings from Ireland! Just came across your channel this week - really taken aback and inspired by your story. Fair play to you and am tremendously happy that you were able to beat the odds and pull through. Genuinely touched by your will to get better, and then some. I'm only recently getting into the whole cocktail-making scene and am excited to comb through your channel and others to find some great recipes to tackle. Well done on the great content and well done on everything so far. Will definitely send you on any homemade cocktail recipes I try out that you might enjoy. Only wish I'd found your channel sooner! Go raibh mile maith agat, agus slán go fóill! (Thank you very much, and goodbye for now!)

Hello to you, my Irish Friend. Thanks for the kind words about my recovery. I wish you would have found me earlier as well. I'm curious what you think of my Irish coffee video and what the favorite Whiskies are over in the great Emerald Island.

And go easy on me, for I don't know much Gaelic. I only know that we rescued our dog named Cullen, that my wife questioned the name until I told her it's Gaelic. I would like to know how to make the Gaelic accents on the keyboard, also.

@@itsallaboutthecocktail Hello! You're very welcome sir! Glad that I did find your channel in the end. I had a watch of your Irish Coffee video there - love the idea of putting Creme de Menthe through the cream, must see about giving it a go some time! I'm not the biggest whiskey drinker myself - much prefer Guinness and Rum really - but the most popular that I'd know about are Jameson, Bushmill's (created in Antrim in the North East of Ireland), Teeling's, Paddy's, Power's (great for hot whiskey and lemon), and a more recently created whiskey from Dublin called Roe&Co. - I had a friend who worked at their distillery last year so they come highly recommended if you can get your hands on a bottle!! Personally I'd go for a Bushmill's as it's from my home county, but Teeling's and Jameson in my honest opinion but do keep your eyes peeled for any of the others mentioned above!!

@@itsallaboutthecocktail neither do I re. speaking much Gaelic to be honest - I'm a terrible Irishman on that front! Great name for a dog, happy to hear it's with a good home and family. To type accents over letters (or "fada" in Irish), just hold down the 'alt gr' button beside the space bar at the same time as typing the next letter. It should work on all the vowels on your keyboard. I'm doing that on a Windows computer but not sure if it's different for others. Hope that works for ya, and give me a shout if you need any more help!

Thanks for the reply, Matt. I DID get a bottle of Teeling's small- batch I'm quite fond of and need to review. As well as Paddy's & Powers before they are empty. My wife got me bottles of Redbreast 12 & Greenspot last St. Pat's day and I haven't cracked open the Greenspot yet. I'm into rum as well and saw that Tullamore D.E.W. has one finished in Caribbean wine casks that I want to try.

@itsallaboutthecocktail 4 года назад
yeah, that can be very frustrating for loved ones. It was hard for my loved ones to have faith after a month of nothing. Just please, have faith and do not give up on him. When I did come out of the coma, I was a rehab hospital in- patient for some time and recieved a lot of therapy as an out patient afterwards. But you must realize that everybody's brain and injury are different and you cant really compare one to another. You didn't really tell me how long since your brother awoke from his coma. All you can do is pray 4 his recovery and let him hear your voice. I hope that bring you some comfort in these difficult times. I'm here if you ever need someone to talk to. ~ Ray

That is SO, SO, wonderful to hear. Not everybody snaps back right away or has the same level of recovery. The exercise is important and the physical therapy I went thru, (I was in a rehab hospital), gave me the exercises I should work on. This is the time to really work towards getting back your abilities to do simple things that were never so hard. You've got to be behind him to motivate him to push himself. Please give me updates on his progress. I'm not sure if the rehab hospital I was in has anything online, but they were great. Marianjoy Rehabilitation in Wheaton, Illinois.
