If he was a public school teacher, he did NOT have a 401k, he had a 403b. I kind of wish she had her dad talk more about his investments and how he's invested over those 34 years. It feels like a miss to learn positives and negatives from a retired person.

Pulling $90K to $100K for a teacher is VERY atypical in most states. For example, teachers with master's degree in Texas with 15 years or so experience may still only make $50K to $60K in suburban cities. In rural school districts that number is probably only $40K for teachers with anything higher than a bachelor's degree. Not an ideal situation when a typical work week ranges from 60 to 70 hours a week when you include meetings, class prep, grading, etc.

What teacher works 60-70 hours a week. you only need to prep once and the learning material is the same each year.

@@welcome161Af14 Clearly, you aren't a teacher or don't know many teachers because this isn't true. The way that kids learn changes every year and especially during the past couple of years with the pandemic. You can't roll out the same prep for in-school instruction if your class is learning from home or in a hybrid model. Also, the district and sometimes even the state changes the curriculum for what is going to appear on state tests. The way you or I learned in middle school however long ago that was with textbooks was ineffective even before the pandemic.

@@welcome161Af14 Well actually there is a lot of grading that teachers have to do which takes up a lot of their time. Also, I've noticed as a student that lives in Texas, teachers have been changing their plans a lot and not following the same plans that they always did. Especially with the pandemic and stuff, but even before the pandemic, middle school and high school plans have been slightly changing. But that is just my experience may be different where you live.

My sister-in-law would 💩 if she made 100k. She teaches at our middle school here in KS. She only makes $48k with a masters & 12 years experience. She got mad when we got our current jobs. My fiancé & I only have associate degrees. I’ve worked in the corporate retirement plan industry for 19 years & my other half has worked in corporate self-funded insurance for 17 years. I make $50k, he makes $70k. That is HUGE money where we live.

Uhhhhm he is definitely NOT smart with his money! He is retired abd STILL paying a mortgage & made a lot of bad financial decisions!! Plus he had a very low paying career. At 26 I make double what he made in his last year of teaching!!!

Sorry to burst everyone bubble but that teacher pay is soooo far off from the truth. Maybe in a nice neighborhood in Seattle. But that amount of experience in the majority of the country is around $55k

Depends where you are and your education level. The largest districts in MN after 25 yrs or so you can get up to $90k or at least close but considering they want you to have a masters degree plus credits towards a phd to pay you that… yikes

RE teacher salaries... 100k a year is pretty good considering that you get 2-3 months worth of time off. Also, the benefits can be very good. However, there are plenty of places where 100k is not at all close to what they get paid.

In this market with a car shortage, don't be surprised. I sold a 2012 Prius for over 17K to Carmax a couple of months ago....well above Blue Book.

Used car prices have nearly doubled in the last year. A 2008 Audi A4 convertible with relatively low miles (about 100k, which at $50 a month on gas that teacher's car might have even quite a bit less than that) is worth around $10k according to Carfax. I wouldn't doubt a dealer trying to sell that car for somewhere close to $13k and possibly even getting an offer...

None of this adds up!! Why is nobody pointing this out? He makes $4,400/mo and spending > $6,000/mo yet he “doesn’t spend more than he makes” and “doesn’t withdrawal from 401k or Roth IRA” Maybe it’s his wife makes money but no one’s saying anything.

I saw the vid. He said he brings in 3600/mo according to the video. The video's thumb nail said he makes 43k/year. His mortgage payment is 3k/mo. Those numbers dont make sense. They never say that his wife is also bringing in an income, etc. They never explain how he can afford 3k/mo mortgage payment on that income.

Graham, any chance you could make a video breaking down credit cards and how to choose the right one for you to maximize perks and such? That's one thing I've yet to do and just use the basic credit union card. I need to start accumulating some free perks. Problem is I don't really fly (one day maybe) so air miles aren't great so some tips on what other options are out there would be great!

I’ve made a lot of money selling property strategically. I don’t regret any of my sales. But you have to do it in a boom or for a crazy offer and then reinvest it in a property you under-pay for. I also want to buy my childhood home. I live around the corner and want to give it to my parents to retire in. I’m thinking of getting the money together and having my agent approach them… but I know that the odds of success are pretty slim.

thats a really high mortgage for someone who is retired. thats probably a $650-700k house! thats a big house for 1-2 people and the occasional guests. im sure his financial situation is fine, but id probably downsize to a 200-300k house, and then have more money to enjoy life or to invest and leave for your kids.

@@cedarforest4621 you realize there are more places to live than a hyperinflated cost of living, crime infested Antifa overrun shithole like Seattle? the dude could move to an Alabama or Texas beachfront property for 200-300k easily and the houses and general cost of living is half that of the east and west coast. he could essentially double his spending power by moving. i dont expect that he ever would because his family is in that area, im just saying hypothetically. he certainly could find a nice 200-300k home on the west coast though, it certainly exists.
