I just bought 4 very similar pots from the hardware store. I wasn't sure about putting soil directly to the bottom so I added a layer of pea gravel first. I also used a cotton wick in 2 of the 4 holes to get more distribution of the water. I too use water soluble fertilizer in the water chamber. Happy planting!
Thanks for your review! I bought a smaller one of these pots for my daffodils as they were getting too large for the little pot they were in. Hopefully it'll stop them from drooping.
nice clean looking yard. Mine is a mess. My I-258 went from 16 inches to 6 feet in just one year. And full of unripe fruit right now. I got it from HarveyC.
5 gallon buckets go for $1 locally on offer up. Restaurants may even give them away after use. But the pots do look a lot better than 5 gallon buckets.
What's the material these are made of, and how do they hold up to UV? Have they lasted more than a season for you? Not that you can find them anymore at Target...
well that'd be quite dumb of you two considering the gravel won't wick the water up from the bottom. Soil won't fall through the slits due to compacting of the soil structure. A little soil may leak out, but even then, who cares? You?
It appears all of your plants are in containers. What I'd like to know is if they are watered via sub-irrigation, have you found a way of having it being automatically? How do they get watered when you go on vacation? I don't like to ask neighbors or friends.
the constant supply of water has alot to do with it. Plus when we water in a regular pot alot of nutrients escape through the holes. The reservoir in these pots keep the nutrients in and the plants can continue to feed from it.
Hi..i bought a self watering pot from walmart also but mine doesn't have a spout like yours does..mine is totally closed from the bottom..i watered my plant and had to tip it over to let some water drup out..now I'm scared to over water it..can you give me some advice plz..was I supposed to try to break bottom off the pot?Or will I be ok?Thanks
just depends on the weather and how large the plant is. On really warm days every couple of days because a plant with a large root system can suck up a lot of water
The label on the pot says as little as once every two weeks. But as Ben said, it depends on the plant & weather. Basically water it when the water level gets low in the reservoir.
