Disclaimer: There was very bad latency when I recorded this, so my playing is very late compared to how I would normally play. Even with the technical issue, I think all these exercises are still very useful and instructive. Enjoy!

The most profound point Kiefer made was when he said "Ka ka bzz bzz ka ka bzz bzz ka ka bzz bzz". I agree with that point.

This is precisely what I need in my life right now (...let's be real, I needed this in my life 15 years ago, but better late than never!) There's such an overabundance of harmonic theory videos on the internet that I've just tuned them all out. I know all that crap like the back of my hand. But, a practical way to approach a better rhythmic foundation? Instant subscribe :)

I love it when a YT comment starts with "that's easy" Consider commenting on what is useful about the knowledge in the video friend. If you have other techniques, I'm sure people would appreciate you sharing, but like...why do you have to diminish someone else's hard work - that in my opinion - is extremely informative and helpful on many levels. I just really dislike your statement. "That's easy." No it's not, and this beauty of a human is offering up his hard earned knowledge for free out of kindness. FOH

saw you in Paris last year, definetely wanted to ask you for a basic roadmap to start to learning keys, having already a solid background in music theory but didn't want to bore you out after the show, feel like I missed my shot here haha. anyway it was my first concert after a long period of struggle with my mental health, the whole night and that release really helped me during 2022 hope you are doing good

This has been super helpful. It has made me more aware of placing my notes. I got a little lost when you went to compound rhythms but I'll get it. I'm curious what you think about laying back a note on purpose. I'm not even sure if that's what I'm hearing... but what is Oscar Peterson doing for instance on "Exactly Like You" from the record Hello Herbie. Just on the melody he's doing something cool with the rhythms. Loving your channel. Thank you.

Should i go to college for music? I really want to get good and just practicing at home isnt getting me enough experience, or do i just need more willpower?
@AidanMiles
@AidanMiles Год назад
"just practicing at home" is what you do after you go to college for music, or if you don't go to college for music. either way, that's what you're doing! it is a grind, and it is forever. find inspiration wherever you can, you'll be surprised at what you can accomplish if you let go of "what should i do". find what you love, and if you start from that, you'll grow in ways you never thought you could.

This is a great question. Music school is great for some people, not so great for others. Music school can be amazing, inspiring, motivating, practical, supportive, etc. It can also be high pressure, toxic, and expensive (this is extremely important to note). It depends on many factors, and in short, if it is not affordable, I would advise against it. For me, music school was great. I received a scholarship at a state school (so it was pretty affordable), I had a great private instructor, and more importantly, I was in a fantastic environment to grow in. For the first time in my life, I was surrounded by people who got up in the morning and started practicing at 8am. Unlike my prior experience in high school, I was able to actually see what preparation for becoming a professional musician looked like. That said, music school is not the only environment where this happens. You can also join a community of musicians who are hardworking and experienced (being in a big city is often, though not always, necessary for this). Music school was by far the best experience I had ever had to that point and I likely would not have made it as a musician without that experience. However, it is actually not the place where I learned the most about music and the music business. It was after school when I entered the real world, started gigging with more serious musicians in LA, and continued practicing at home, that I made the biggest improvements.

Hey what do you mean by "6's"? and displaced "6's"?
@Cade_Bongo
@Cade_Bongo Год назад
I am also curious
@kiefdaddysupreme
@kiefdaddysupreme Год назад
6's means 6 sixteenth notes in phrase length. To get this, I play my 4-note figure in sixteenth notes, and then add two sixteen-note rests after (aka an eighth-note rest). This makes the length of each phrase 6 sixteenth notes, or 3 eighth notes, turning it into a polyrhythm (3 over 4). A great thing to know how to do.
