My housemaid is Lao. She has been working for me more than 15 years! Great attitude and honest reliability! Her family are now with her in the village! All well mannered and delightful people. They have very little money but the way they 'take on' life's struggles is amazing!

I'm a farang living in Laos and would definitely recommend traveling around this amazing country. Lao people are so kind and the country has some awesome nature. And what I love about it compared to thailand is, that there is no need to do any visa runs. 12 months visa, infinitely renewable. And because you can speak thai, you can easily communicate with the laotians. My lao is much better than my thai though 😅 welcome to enjoy laos one day 🇱🇦

@@cloudattack3279 its called LA-B2. Basically a business visa with work permit (doesnt matter you need work permit or not, basically included). Super easy process with a trustful company as a sponsor, done within 7-10 days

My last "visa run" I flew into Vientiane Laos, great city for a few days excursion. Your Thai will come in handy there. Check out the riverfront for an enormous night market and restaurants along the Mekong.

I actually love Chiang Khong, I originally went there to catch a riverboat down to Luang Prabang but ended up not be bothered to do the 3 day riverboat and ended up staying in Chiang Khong for like 2 weeks, loved the noodle soup at the market and explored most of the area on scooter visiting some of the tea farms etc, it was burning season too, so probably not best for health but driving through that mountainous area with the hills ablaze was an amazing site. I still keep in contact with some of the accommodation owners there after being there 20 years ago. I have since been to South East Asia many times but haven't made it back to that border cross, but I do love my sleepy towns like Kampot or Kep in Cambodia and just places in general. When I was there, they hadn't built the bridge so you had to take a longboat across to Laos border.

I love Laos. Friendly as you say, and great that I could use my Thai to get around. Actually northern Thai is helpful too, as sometimes Lao does the turning r into h thing e.g hong hien. A lady in a roadside cafe came and sat down next to me to chat after making my coffee ☺️. I've been to Luang Prabang which has lots to see and awesome coffee and French pastries everywhere. Tourists, but not rowdy ones, more backpackers from all over and all ages, and I think they have rules about bars and loud music due to being a UNESCO heritage site. Also went to Pakse, a decent sized town, very interesting with nearly no foreigners. Talking to foreigners who teach English and baking skills, and some who make clay pot water filters for the poor, was interesting. French influence visible. I got to Pakse by bus from Ubon, scenic trip which I enjoyed. A tinpot border station where you walk across undeveloped land between the Thai and Lao immigration buildings, kind of guessing which direction to walk in 😁 I loved Laos, you will too.

0:35 This limit is only by land. There are tons of places you can fly from Thailand much more easily (and overall probably even more cheaply) than making land crossings.

There is still an ambiguous limit on flights. Although they'll usually give you a warning when you are on your last chance. The trouble is, after they give you the warning, you are then expected to apply for a tourist visa in advance, no more visa exemptions!

I don't really do border runs. I usually stay the length of each visa and then cross and stay for the length of that visa. I do often use remote crossings that may or may not allow foreigners to cross but when I do that I always have a few spare days up my sleeve so I don't risk overstaying. At least twice I got to a crossing I couldn't use and had to adventure off to the next bigger one. It's all part of the fun!

This is funny because I usually go to Tachilek, though knowing it was closed, I remembered watching your video from last year when you went on the boat and decided to do that. So got my recent bounce from Chiang Saen! Next year I hope I remember this video and go Chiang Klong if Tachilek is still closed. Many thanks!

A few things you got slightly wrong. Before March 2020, Tachilek was an entry point into Myanmar. You could enter there and exit elsewhere provided you had an e-visa. This was again briefly possible for a few months last year before they shut the borders to foreigners again. From March 20, 2020 until January 19, 2023 the Mae Sai border was firmly shut to ALL, not just foreigners. No Thais or Burmese could cross except during the early part of Covid when some repatriates were permitted with a 14 day quarantine but the bureaucracy was immense. You couldnt just show up and expect to cross.

Ahhh Paddy! I found you before we left NZ in Nov 2022. You inspired me with your ability to speak Thai. After a stint in Bali we now live in Chiang Rai with our kiwi kids 😂 and go to a Thai school to learn passar Thai 🇹🇭 🙏🥰. If I knew you were going to do a border run I would have told you to go to Chiang Kong. Much nicer than Chiang Sean and yes Myanmar has been closed for over a year now. Great video and nice to see you come across my RU-vid feed again. 🙏 😊

Thankfully I do not have to make border runs if I don,t wish to. Always a bit stressful as your never sure what may happen at the check points entering or leaving. The border at Mae Sai is better than most but thanks for the warning. But even those with loads of experience and able to speak Thai we sometimes screw up just like rookies.

Laos is a beautiful country and the Laotian people are incredible. In Vientiane with your Thai you will have no problems communicating, even with my level of Thai which is not very high I manage to get by in Vientiane. You absolutely must visit Luang Prabang. The atmosphere of this city is truly incredible, its half-French and half-Laotian architecture is unique. For its unique landscapes you have to spend a few days in Vang Vieng. And especially now with the high-speed train it's very easy!! For airlines there is Lao Airline and Bangkok Airways which are serious companies, quite expensive because there is no real competition in Laos.

There is only one land border open for foreigners entering Myanmar from Thailand in Raynong. There are no visas to be extended by doing a border bounce, you'd be getting a completely new visa exempt entry stamp. Extensions are done at immigration inside Thailand. Altho the border is open for Thai and Myanmar nationals to cross, as you learned it isn't for foreigners, maybe next time get feedback from foreigners in the area and not locals, unless you're asking a local border bounce service. Safe travels.

I’m actually going to Chiang Khlong in 2 days. I didn’t want to use one of my border crossings already, I should have sorted out Ed visa sooner. But thankfully I can and will be my second time going to Laos. And I may have to go a 3rd time next month to get my Ed visa😅………

So all these decades u live there, u doing visa exemptions at border/airport, or a tourist visa or some yearly student visas over and over ? or what have been your visa history so far? i did like this for 8 years, out of which student visa on yearly courses for maybe 4years in total, and got almost deported and not let in multiple times, and had to change new passport twice.. What do you plan to do after your 1-2month expire, since u said u can only do this border run 2x a year, or u will try to do it 3rd time a year too?

The place is a sauna. Beautiful, but it's the same roadside street food, temples, and markets. Without a car it's brutal. Hard to really "enjoy oneself" if you are observant of the pervasive poverty. Kids begging for 10 baht will rattle your sense of purpose and pain in the lives of the less fortunate. From that point, rolling around like some life is grand tourist I couldn't do.

The only part of the Mekong I've been to is the Friendship Bridge between Udon Thani and Vientiane for a border run - it was effing hot and I was either bored (Friday) or hungover (Saturday) so I never went back. I've also done the Cambo run but in many ways that was even worse. From then on, I just bit the bullet and flew to Penang until I made it to 55 and qualified for the retirement extension. For a tourist trip to last longer than 30 days was relatively rare for me early on but by 2008 I was prepared to spend longer in the LOS. I miss the good times but I don't miss the traffic or the crowds. Enjoy the remainder of your stay.

The cost for a stamp in your passport is not worth the price that you believe you have saved by simply overpaying some visa business to assist you with your next 30-day extension and counting it as the cost of being in Thailand as opposed to Vietnam for example. It’s the land of smiles until you realize there is no connecting with people there…everything is about money…everything. If you accept this reality then you won’t be disappointed and will adjust your romantic ideas about the country and the expectations that correspond to those ideas.

Would you say your Thai is at at least a C1 level? Just wondering, as I personally spent about 5 years in China and really only trust people if they can prove their language level. The things that A1 ~ B2 speakers of Mandarin would say that are WIDELY delusional would just absolutely blow your mind! Basically, they weren't liars, rather it is their human nature reaction to spending years with a sort of "disability"/"speech impairment" that causes them to invent fantastical explanations for what would have happened in literally any country on the earth when someone who refuses to assimilate spends too long living in the shadows and goes a bit "mad" from it.

If you said พม่าก็แบบ...แย่จริงๆ sometimes it could look like you said Myanmar is really "atrocious" or smth like that. I know what you trying to say. You should say smth like พม่าก็แบบ...กำลังแย่จริงๆ that's mean "Myanmar is...undergoing some real bad situation". Anyway, from being one of yearlong subscriber, your intonation/tone when talking in Thai although it still not 100%, but it is progressing up a lot for sure. Your choice of word is much better too.
