The original Audi V8 started in the 90s and eventually evolved into the V8 in the RS4 and the R8, and this was improved and evolved into the V10 which was improved again and evolved into the 8V facelift RS5 V8 which was then made into the V10 in the R8 mkII. They’re all related but all different generations with improvements. The original Audi V8/10 family was finally retired when the ttV8 4.0T was introduced on the S6 and now currently the RS6/7. Audi representative stated the RS5 V8 is derived from V10 removing two cylinders. They also said the R8 wishes it had the RS5 V8 for whatever reason? Makes me wonder if the RS5 V8 can be rebuilt using Lamborghini Gallardo internals?
That's interesting.. I know that they share a lot of similarities but that would be interesting to see if Gallardo internals could be used in the RS5 block without modification
@@MichiganMuscle That's what I am wondering, I know with Kline Inconel exhaust, manifolds, and headers with a tune gives you around 500hp. Remove the wet sump to a dry sump, lower the engine down and back for weight distribution, could produce a monster. Lamborghini injectors with a E85 tune with those internals we discussed earlier 550 or higher easily N/A!
@@MichiganMuscle they do.... I know u sold the car but the V8 is the v10 with two cylinders removed. The pistons are the same. Even the valves and more. It’s literally the same engine.
Here in New Zealand a Mk1 R8 2008 costs around $90-95K, V10 R8 you're looking at $130K+. Given you can pick up a B8.5 RS5 for $60k-$70k if supercar looks and mid engine is not the deciding factor the RS5 is the ultimate every day coupe (cost, space practicality, sound from that 4.2 v8, good performance, AWD, sport diff) it ticks so many boxes. Looks wise Walter De Silva IMO got it right, balancing muscle car, supercar, GT coupe and understated style all in a single package.
how can RS5 engine be a detuned version of R8 V8 4.2 if R8 V8 has only 420ps and RS5 450? what I've heared, RS5 engine is the same like R8 V10 just without 2 cillinders...;) btw i have a 2015 RS5, great car :)
I started follow you because I was excited to see your build and you did great, I own an rs5 2013 as well with the titanium package and ceramic brakes and I love it there’s not many of our cars and not many videos like yours I’m glad I’m not the only one that things the rs5 it’s better than an r8
Had more so every affordable high performance-car, sold a c63 for an audi rs5, this is my keeper! Completely love it, amazing , reliable and fast. Just unclip the censor in the boot under the parcel shelf, and exhaust valves stay open. Always sounds amazing then.
Love both cars, I’m in the market for a RS5 right now. You can’t compare the two just because the people the cars are targeting. RS5 is very nice and kind of a sleeper just because not many people don’t know that at one point this car existed. R8 is trying to make a statement and is flashy, people know it’s fast. Good video but honestly I don’t think it’s a fair comparison.
Whats up, r8 is 2006 platform and rs5 was bully on a5 platform which was introduced in 2007. MMI was updated post 2011 models in rs5 but r8 was left without update till newer model
I’m buying an rs5 next month! I think its a great deal for what you are getting. I have a couple of questions. Do you have an exhaust on yours and if so which exhaust? Have you considered tuning it? How does it sound is it like a muscle v8 or a super car v8?
Biggest thing you are forgetting is that all extra/optional features is based on the dealership or the person who bought it from new and what boxes they ticked when it comes to the extras on the car. Cant compare the two really mainly because of this. In general as a base model the R8 is better.
The rs5 v8 is not a detuned r8 v8. You can say It is a detuned r8 v10, Its significantly more powerful, 450 to 415(r8 v8), and it has a high pitched sound similar to that of a v10.
No offense man but you're comparing them in terms of convenience. People don't buy super cars for convenience. You can compare your rs5 to a 458 and it would win in all the same areas it did against the r8. You buy those cars to drive
Great video bro, you make perfect sense, I have the same car and I'm looking for reasons to trade it in but I love my RS5 so much, don't know what to do with these V6 choices. 911 4S in my price range have so little options and m4 RWD Won't do what my RS5 does for me especially since the BMW 2021 has a refresh. Not sure on what I'm going to do but overall, great content. Thank you.
The rs5 is more close to the v10 r8 than the v8. Its not ssame engine as the v8 r8. The rs5 is a v10 with 2 cylinders knocked offf which is why it sounds like that.
R8 shits on the RS5 come on. Who cares about the key, trunk and cluster radio bro. An R8 is a super car. The Honda Accord has a bigger trunk and Mercedes C300 nicer key than the R8, does it matter? Nope
You crazy absolutely crazy RS5 does not share engine with Audi r8 engine is the eight cylinder version of the 10 cylinder engine that is being used in Lamborghini
