Most D1 wrestlers are also out seeking validation that they are better than others. Same with drunken soldiers out spoiling for a fight. Both generally know that they have superior skills than the rest of the people in the bar and can thus win. It’s also why it’s quite comical that percentage of time they lose because they let their ego override their common sense. Or they attempted to bully someone that might have lesser stand up/grappling skills but is armed and takes their threats rightly as potential lethal force, so they put a knife in the wrestler’s chest. Fuck around, find out.

There’s a big difference between a thug that can fight and enjoys it, and a professional that doesn’t need to stroke his own ego fighting. Most fighters that go out looking for a fight outside of the ring have something to prove to themselves, they are shallow and insecure.

Love the big important lessons, fighters don’t start fights IE they have nothing to prove, and second rather than make it a battle of egos you immediately tried to deescalate, when all else failed and the talking was over you took immediate decisive violent action, and lastly you used only enough violence to resolve the issue! Never been in a bar fight. But I can vouch for diffusing the situation. Avoided a few altercations by just talking. Staying silent is not always the best option.

or avoid those places that attract people like that in the first place. i don't get why soldiers go to bars, it's not a place i would be at. we need a class of soldiers who are more interested in libraries or state parks. it's what the founding fathers would have wanted.

@ cagney billingsley They literally fomented the revolution inside coffee houses and bars, founded a branch of the military from inside one of the bars, wrote many of the redress of grievances from inside bars, did the recruiting process into the Continental Army and the militias from bars… I’m sure Jefferson would have preferred they were scholars, but the reality is most scholars are not fighting men. The rare exception become officers, and again, they are not technically fighting men but direct the order of battle.

Yeah completely correct there….90% of the time the guy runnin his mouth to any and everyone, typically ISN’T the one with any hand to hand skills. Of in the rare instance they’re in that 10% and DO have combative skills & abilities, they’re highly intoxicated and no longer have any coordination left as the alcohol removed what they had.

Yep, when I think about the people I've known and worked with and I thought were real bad asses, and that I wouldn't have wanted to be in a fight with, I can't recall a single time of one of them starting a fight. But I can think of a couple of times where they sure finished one.

When I was stationed in Gelnhausen, W. Germany, I went to a bar, and someone grabbed me in a Bear Hug from behind. I flipped them over my hip and just before punching them in the face, the guy yells out, "It's me Brian." He was a guy in my squad that got out of the Army and came back to Germany for his girl. German bars are story after story, some great and some just make you say, "WTF did I just see."

I was also stationed in Gelnhausen Germany in 79 to 81 as a Army medic in 1/33 armor div. Beautiful place but mostly the weather sucked. We were barred from the bars and quest houses because of all the fights GI s got into drunk and disorderly conduct .

I knew someone who was killed like that, and ironically was a member of a covert government agency which, which made everyone initially suspect it was an assassination. But it turned out he got into a fight in a bar with a guy over a woman and of kicked the guy's ass. The guy left and came back an hour later with a pistol and walked right up behind him in the bar and shot him in the back of the head.
