Hi, I'm Maggie and I have Crohn's disease. I am thrilled to be here sharing my personal experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as living with an ostomy. I'm proud to share a little bit from a clinical experience as well, having worked as a GI pediatric nurse and ostomy telehealth nurse. I am so glad you are here. ♥ #ibd #crohnsdisease #ostomy

My mom passed from kidney failure and my sister passed from Crohns but only because she refused any ostomy or interventions. Wish she had known about your channel Maggie. You helped me with my grief. Will be 2 years 7/20. Today would have been her 66th bday. ❤

Love the openness about the scars. I am a vet of 17 crohns related surgeries over the last thirty or so years. One day a friend of mine asked how many scars do I have. Lol, i lost track at ten. I call my abdominal scars the roadmap to finding myself. And, although my grumpy old man has been reincarnated four times, he is still my old man and cannot even remember life without him or scars…..

I was very ill as a child. So much so, that at the age of 5 I had an emergency surgery on Christmas Eve. The scar growing up looked like I was literally butchered open and sewn back together by an intern. Every guy I was with, even doctors examining me literally gasped looking at it for the first time. It was exceptionally hard for me because I felt so ugly and unworthy. In my late 20 I found a Doctor doing scar work meaning he would cut out the scar-tissue and put it back together nicer and neater. My scar is, by no means gone but it’s now a very regular looking scar and I have been now living with it looking so much better for a decade and it makes all the difference mentally.

Thank you so much for sharing that! I recently got my ostomy reversed, so now I have three very visible scars: the midline, the one where my ostomy used to be, and the one where there was a draining tube from the previous surgery. I also have a few scars from central catheters and whatnot, but it’s the ones on my belly that make me really self-conscious. But I always think of you when I feel insecure because of all that I’ve been through, and I always think “Maggie went through simular things, and she is such a great person, and that means that you can have all that experience and still be a person and still be great” You’re honestly such an inspiration.

I have a lot of scars from so many surgeries that I have lost count. I know it's more than 20 so far. And more will follow in the future. Every scar has a story, and to me, it shows how strong and resilient my body is. After all these surgeries, it's still able to heal. (not fast, but it will heal) And I'm grateful for that!❤

You have been through so much! You are still my ostomy hero and I’ve been watching you faithfully for one year now. I just had my one year anniversary of my own total colectomy surgery and my ileostomy (I named her Grace) and I can’t believe how great I feel a year later. My scar goes from my breastbone to my pubic bone - it’s very long. But my colectomy was because I had C-diff and none of the treatments worked, including a fecal transplant. I would have died without this surgery so I am very grateful for my scar and my stoma. I did have UC for many many years and struggled with that as well. Your videos kept me going and kept me motivated for this past year and I’m so grateful for your knowledge and your inspiration! Thank you for all that you share! ❤❤

My mom had five c sections in 7 years through a mid line incision. First baby very large and an old fashioned doctor (1951). She had a huge midline scar. She used to joke that she wished they had put in a zipper. The when she was in her fifties she had possible ovarian cancer and anther surgery. Not cancer, yay! She also had a big scar from old style gal bladder sugary . She was like you never complained. You are a special young lady. I just have two scars , one on my lower back from pre melanoma. And a c section scar. I am blessed.❤

💕😘🙏🦜. Great to see you today. What a warrior you are! I’m glad you explained all of this. I have wondered about your mid-line scar. I have a long scar that didn’t heal flat because it came apart and fluid collected there (colon cancer surgery). Just one of those things that sometimes happens. You have a great attitude and outlook on life. It is refreshing to hear your perspective and thoughts. Blessings.

I've never considered myself to have health problems, but counting, I realized I've had 8 surgeries in my life which is a few. The majority of mine have been reproduction related, including two c-sections, a ruptured ectopic, a hemorrhage emergency after a stillbirth delivery, an low intestinal blockage I had 8 months pregnant, and removal of my ovaries and remaining tube after I had extremely large solid mass tumors (thankfully benign) develop. It can be a lot being a woman lol. My husband died suddenly at 45, and he never had one surgery in his life.

I’m two months after hand surgery that left me with my largest scar to date on my dominant hand, a L-shaped 1.5”x0.75” scar. Accepting this scar has been harder than my other laparoscopic surgery scars. Thanks for sharing the stories behind yours. It helps. ❤

I was born with only one functioning kidney (the other just never fully developed in utero) and the one that does work is less than healthy and has caused chronic kidney stones and narrowing in my ureter. This has meant multiple surgeries over the last 15ish years. Most of which have been done endoscopic or laparoscopic and it can be really difficult to be out of work for months with nothing to show for scars. Especially because kidney pain is some of the worst pain I have ever experienced.

You have dealt with so many things, and you're so young. I have issues and am still not getting answers. I had a colonoscopy, and the surgery results show inflammation, and I had precancerous polyps, but also looping with my intestines. I have terrible stomach aches and intestinal pain. I had ischemic colitis right before my daughter's wedding. I asked the GI doctor about the looping and if it could have to do with the ischemic part of the colitis. He said no that's usually from low blood pressure. I needed to know what else was going on, and he pretty much said that i don't have cancer. I wasn't only worried about that. I wish that I could eat a normal meal and not have so much pain after. Then i talked to my regular gp. I told him about the looping and he said that definitely could have caused it. Now I am going to see a different gi doctor. On top of that, when i was hospitalized I also had a septic kidney infection. I have spent my life with multiple medical issues. No one seems to understand what it is about me. I have issues with joints and had a knee replacement when I was in my thirties. Lots of issues and an infection in the bone with the knee replacement. Now our really good friend just had to have 80% of his colon taken out. All the other doctors wanted to remove the colon. He has had Crohns that was diagnosed a few years ago. I am so afraid for him. They said that he was very close to having cancer. Its been a week and a half and he's still been feeling pretty sick. He's trying to eat soft foods. If this doesn't help, they will remove the whole colon. I don't understand why they saved some of his colon. Will he be able to every eat normally again? I told him that he should listen. Right now, he is scared. Im trying to tell h[

I’ve had my midline scar opened 4 times (total colectomy, jpouch made, the first stoma made then reversed, and my permanent stoma) my first stoma was on my right side, now it’s on my left side, and when I had my gallbladder removed they did try it laparoscopically but due to scar tissue they had to do an open surgery, where they cut was pretty much right over it so the scar is smaller than it would have been. So I completely understand what it’s like with scars!

@letstalkIBD May I ask a question? My sister has had stomach/intestinal issues for several years and i found out that she has been told she 'probably has IBD(of some sort'. However, she has only had blood tests and faecal sample- which came back negative. Is this a usual way of diagnosing IBD or should there have been other tests? Thank you in advance,

Typically colonoscopies, endoscopies, and MRIs or CT scans are done! Mine was officially diagnosed after a colonoscopy and endoscopy.

I’ve been enjoying your channel. So I decided to try Thrive. But you can’t even look at what they have without paying for and signing up for a membership. That’s an immediate “no” from me. I can’t imagine paying $12 just to look and see if there is any I might want to buy. That’s ridiculous and feels like a scam. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income, and every penny must be spent carefully. I would love to consider this product, as you have presented it so beautifully. But I can’t afford to waste $12.

Hi there! Just wanted to provide a link as to why they do this, but also to let you know they offer a 30 day window for new members so if you don't like it, you can get a refund! $12 is a lot so I totally understand wanting to put it to good use (and know what you're getting for it)!
