Miranda, you don’t know how important your enthusiasm for and information on outdoor toilet habits is for women. I have several female friends who have completely avoided some amazing outdoor experiences because of their perceived lack of “normal” toilet facilities. One of them has never even peed on the ground and doesn’t know how. While I will pop a squat just about anywhere, there is a certain panache to teaching someone else how to properly do it. Teach on girl!
id love to see videos about trails and their perceived difficulties. From hikes for the new to the die hard. these videos are great fun because it lets people realize that hiking is more than just walking in the woods. There is so much to nature that can be seen.
And this trail goes through so many different types of terrain and is a good example of why people need to be at least a bit prepared for shifts in terrain or temps. Those rocky areas and getting cold enough for snow due to elevation was something else!
I absolutely love the pure joy and wonder on your face as you approached the toilet. This is one of my favorites in the state. And what? only 3 episodes??!!
I hope I run into you on a trail someday so I can give you such an epic high-five that it creates a thunder clap that can be heard from 100 miles away lol 🤪. Love your videos and your quirky energy, keep up the good work and never stop being you 👍🏻
Next one has got to be Sahale glacier camp, but(T) it’s right down the road from hidden lakes lookout! This series is so fun. I laughed so hard when you said it would be an honor and a privilege to poop there. 🤣
Thank you so much for this series and the poo-etiquette you provide along the way. The view from the Hidden Lake location is absolutely breathtaking!!! Can’t wait to see the third location!
I always love your videos. Ranier seems to have stuck with you and while we dont see him much he sounds cool and happy with you which seems to confirm how great of a team you all are. Please include his input also on gear reviews as well when possible. It was really helpful when you all did that. I am curious about your vegan journey. It seems you did not start that way, but chose that path and now have returned to a more omnivour state. This would be very intereating as every person makes such choices for so many different reasons. Maybe it is just I (and I assume many others) feel close to you and find you amazing as a person.
Since leaving REI I’ve had to go from Producer to videographer, meaning I’m behind the camera more and cannot be on camera. But still here and loving every minute!
@RainerGolden ok that explains a lot! For the record, I started paying more attention to the quality of video and you are truly amazing! I was not sure who was actually filming before now. Thanks for all the great work!
Hey @mirandagoesoutside, beautiful hike! I know you already include so much information in the description, but one videos like this could you also include the trail info? Like, distance/location / elevation gain/ time it took you and the crew?
i love your focus on poo! LNT so important, paper & poo in camp, on trail is a bummer. NYT recently did a beginner camper article and no mention of poo etiquette. I tried to leave a comment about it but the comment wasn't accepted (prob because it had the words 'poo' and 'defecating' in it)... If you are a new backpacker- always make sure to check your campsite well before set up: it is horrible to set up over someone else's waste. Our culture has such an issue with human excrement, thanks Miranda for making this topic a little more... natural😺
Loving this series! 😂 Also, I wish I had half Miranda’s personality haha ❤ Can’t wait for my sample pack of LMNT to get to me, can’t wait to try the watermelon and add some lime! Do you have a video on backcountry mocktails? You should
😁 I hope you love it!! I’ll def be drinking watermelon salt w/ lime to try and extend the summer vibes as long as possible. I’d love to do a mocktails vid!!!
No spoilers but I will say the final toilet more than lived up to the hype. One of the best backpacking trips I’ve ever done, and the best views I have ever seen anywhere in the world.
Such a fun (and bizarre!) series. I've visited Washington state but we never got more than a mile from the roads because we were on a road trip from Seattle to LA and could only afford short stops... It looks fabulous.
Miss Maranda, Rainer, do you ever wonder/think or talk about the history of the trails y’all hike on?????? I mean like Lewis and Clark, the men that went west, that walked those exact trails in search of gold!!!! “Go West Young Man!!!! Go West”!!!!! To sleep where these brave explorers lived with primitive gear!!!!! Just wondering and maybe y’all could incorporate a few minutes into each show telling us about what y’all find out!!!! It gives me “Goosebumps” just thinking about we all could learn!!!!!!! Thanks for another amazing video and I can’t wait for the finale of “Thrones in Nature”!!! I hope y’all will expand this into other states!!!!
Now this is some quality content!! Miranda is bringing us the real investigative journalism of the backcountry. Special thanks for including poo etiquette for those of us new to pooing outside. What is the poo etiquette for bidet users? Use the bidet elsewhere?
This video makes me want to come back to Washington to hike. Only did the small hikes since my tiny dog wasn’t super capable of hiking and I only go where he goes
its a hang up I have when a hiking video is filmed from ahead of the hiker and you can tell they ran up, set up the camera, then ran back and pretended to walk up the trail for the first time. I appreciate that this felt like a pretty diegetic filming perspective. so uh. thanks for that. also have you talked about your watch in a video before? I've been looking to upgrade to something more robust for my hikes
I swear, you are my spirit animal. LOL There is an annual race in Seattle called the Lard Butt that you might be interested in doing. I've been meaning to, but I keep forgetting about it. : )
If it is not the bathroom on the Cascade Pass/Sahale Arm hike…you will have missed miserably. That’s the best bathroom in the WORLD. You can see Mt. Rainier over 100 miles away while you go to the bathroom.
That is an amazing hike and so beautiful Miranda! Hidden Lake Lockout is at 6900 feet and I live at approx. 6700 feet in Colorado Springs which means my privy is at about 6712 feet but not much of a scenic view, but mine is prettier and just a flight of stairs away and private. I just noticed the lookout in the background at 14:20, so much for privacy there either. Sounds like one should be up to date on their Tetanus Shot and having a friend you trust with tweezers along would be a bonus. Overall, I don't think I would go out of my way to use this toilet even for the views. Butt then I am not a Poopaholic.
Ha!! This is definitely not a toilet I’d want to use in the dark. Fall off a cliff?! Get tetanus??? Slip on someone else’s toilet paper trash and break an ankle?! But in the light of day, it’s lovely!!
I am disappointed you didn't do your bridge song when you went over the bridge (Is it for only certain sized bridges 🙂) That is a beautiful site, I really want to get out to the north west someday and see some of the sights.
@MirandaGoesOutside would you mind sharing your thoughts about the Parapack hat? I’ve been looking at them recently and find it a fun coincidence that you’re wearing one in this video. 😃
That toilet gives me "Rick&Morty" shy pooping episode vibes. I'd love to *drop* a rock there. But Miranda, help me with this question, how do you handle the "code brown situation" when everyone makes a mess around an amazing throne like that one? Aren't you affraid of stepping on someone's *payload* ? Or maybe their discarded *hate letters* ?? Do you do something to prevent that something goes wrong and ruins your experience *planting a pinecone* ? Greetings from the caribbean to you and the bug in denial 😂
Have you been to the one above Peggy's Pond campground on Mount Daniels? It's right off the PCT, if I remember correctly. Most spectacular place I've ever $#@+ in my life. If it's stiill there. It's been almost 20 years now.
@mirandagoesoutside Have you tried mixing all the flavors of LMNT together at once and see what it tastes like? I use to go to 711 and mix all the sodas together on a dare.
