Oh! My gosh! I had a blouse ready to sew & I was dreading to add the collar. Like you said it is perfect easy. , it took me less 30 minute to sew the collar &add it. I will definitely be adding collars now. I am 84, & have been sewing most of my life, this is the best tip ever. Thank you.

Just got through doing 2 shirts with this collar…it took 2 entire days, and lots of swear words, all because of the camp collar/facing! So happy you have the mind for figuring this these things out for us. Think I’ll nominate you for a Nobel Peace prize….this will keep me from murdering my shirts in the future! Xx

What clever way to do that collar. I've always hated those kinds of collars. I liked the kind with collar stands... more work, but looks better, but I'll definitely be trying this!!!! Thank you for posting! Love your tips & your tops!!! That strip play looks like such fun 🙂

Love your shirts both of them. Love that you shared this technique, it does make attaching a collar match easier. Years ago , more years than I care to remember, I saw in a ready-made garment where the collar was stitched similar but instead of creating a facing, bias tape was used and was caught under the front facing at the shoulder. The bias tape was then stitched down under the collar area. I have been using that method ever since for this type shirt. Thanks for sharing your techniques and knowledge.

What color thread did you use to sew down the back facing? Can one use invisible thread since the fabric has white and black (blue?) contrast, or would that look shiny? This project is very inspiring!

I used regular thread and I don’t mind if it’s seen. The invisible thread makes my skin itchy. I have removed it from RTW clothes thy have it but if you can tolerate it, then it should be ok :)

Hi Karina Love all your videos, specially this one. I have a question - do you prefer to interface the upper or under collar piece? There seems to be a variation in patterns and advice given from different sources. I have been sewing for over 50 years and always learn something useful from you, also I really enjoy your presentation style. Keep up the great work!
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 года назад
I like to interface the upper collar because it will look smooth and that’s the visible side of the collar. Lots of undercollars are cut on the bias (not this one) and smaller than the undercollar. Manipulating the undecollar is easier if it’s not interfaced and feels softer on the skin of the neck too.

Can I make this in a 3/4 length sleeve. Anything I need to know other than extending the length of the sleeve?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 4 года назад
Lengthening it a lot would limit mobility and when you raise your arms a little the whole side seam would come up too. Unless it was super wide like a kimono but then the shoulder angle would need to change. I’m trying to convince Tami to add a sleeve extension piece when the sizing update happens.

Karina: I'm having a problem lining up the Y-front to the shoulder seam and the collar facing. I am using the full bust piece. Just on the paper pattern, the y piece is further down the shoulder seam toward the sleeve and only meets the collar piece about halfway. I checked the 1 inch block and the pattern size is correct. Can you tell me what is wrong?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles

I apologise but I really can not understand what you mean. Collar facing? I’ve not used the full bust piece so I can’t have a look at it. I'd love to know about your sewing history, etc. I was born on a farm and I love to hear all the birds signing while your taping. Brings back grand memories...Living in the suberbs I'm noticing that the number of birds have dwindled a lot.Thank you anyway. I'm getting caught up from all the utubers that I like and interesting subject matter. I got hooked around mid 2019 and what a world that has opened up for all. I think and encourage you with all your deep information to write a book. Fill it with pictures also. I think that would be a real winner to say nothing of some extra $$. On all the pattern pieces, it states 3/8" seam allowances (SA). However, in the instructions for this blouse on pg. 10, they tell you to sew a 1/2" SA at the top of the FRONT integrated facing. DId you use a 3/8" SA or a 1/2" SA? Was this a LN misprint? In your video, you don't mention the size of the SA, but it looks like it could be 1/2" because your presser foot is not even with the edge (many presser feet are 3/8" wide). I don't want to assume that we are using a 3/8" SA to sew the front facing to the back facing, but that would make the most sense to me.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles Год назад
The pattern uses 1/2" in specific areas that are noted in the instructions, but when you sew the collar to the neckline and facing it is 3/8" (as per the pattern). My presser foot does not give me a 3/8" seam allowance at all. That's why you see it's not even with the edge.

The first 8mins is the most longest video have ever watched in my entire life...you really can make your vidoe short and dont waste too much time on the intro...

I have no plans to make my videos only with sewing and no introduction. This is my format and the sewing I show makes no sense without the intro. You can always scroll by what you don’t want to see.

I purchased the pattern through your affiliate link! Question: How would you adjust the pattern to make the shirt a V neck, without the collar? Could you make a video on this? Just so we have more ways to sew up this pattern!!! Thank you~

Definitely drafting the back facing for my next Melody Dolman - this is WAY easier than the clip technique. Love the stripes going different directions too!

Always enjoyable to watch your tutorials. Something I find helpful when attaching collars & facings is to baste (usually by machine) the collar on first. It gives me one less piece to worry about matching properly while seaming all those layers together. Thank you for sharing this because I will be undertaking a camp collar blouse soon.

I wish I had found your video before making my first Melody Dolman. I love the finished top, but man, sewing that collar was so frustrating! This technique would have helped so much! Will try this next time. Thank you for sharing the tips!

I know this video is 2 years old,, but I wish I would have seen this earlier today. I made the Melody Dolman and the colar their way which was a pain. Thanks when I make another one I'll do it this way. Drafting the back facing now so I'll remember.

Ive just finished my first Melody Blouse using your method to install the collar. Your instructions and technique are fabulous and I did have success for which I am grateful. As a newbie sewist I have a few "rough edges" to my project - but - practice makes perfect.
