When I did the Clean Screams compilation and people were like "Do games EVER scare you?" I was like "yeah" and immediately pointed to this scene.

Unironically one of my favourite parts of the whole game. The 'up to your imagination' writing and unexpected elements of simple horror and unreconciled loss scattered around are incredible. The game isn't even about that part of it, beyond the King's motivations, which are sort of a red herring part-way in. I love when the story and world are bigger than what we explore.

Oh this is DELIGHTFUL!! You capture the dawning horror on the daydreaming one's face really well, and I love that the bgs give a sense of the space they're in.

I imagine that everyone old enough to remember color is absolutely horrified by how accepting people are… but yeah this combined with how often Siffrin has to be reminded what something is called (like the forge) are enough to give an inkling of his origins. I really like settings where most people have access to magic or something similar enough that it’s so mundane that it is no longer considered magic by the users. Especially when there are signs of past great works or accidents having built or destroyed entire nations/civilizations
