My little sister was looking for a reliable, cheap and fun first car that was under $5000 Canadian. After a ton of research we settled on this rare 1998 Convertible Rav4 which is an awesome example of 90's greatness. It has all the necessities such as AC, airbags, it is fuel efficient, and reliable making it a great first car for a student.

Did you ever finish the build? Didn't seen an update on your channel. This thing is awesome. I have a first gen too and can't get enough of it! Have you looked into the 3S-GTE engine swap for it? With a little hood scoop, and top mount, it's such a little weapon.

I love it! I just got one, but a standard hardtop 1.8 fwd version, I don't really need 4x4 but do miss my old X-90 4x4.. hope your sis looking after it! it looks good in black and suits her, I gotta check out your vids to see if you done any mods to it now!! :-)

So dope looking for a 5sp one with the soft top for my extra 3sgte laying around. I suggest you guys look into the same thing 3sgte 2.0L turbo with monster capabilities. Since it is a 3s it has no problems bolting right on not sure about the auto trans but worth looking into. Would make it a dope little tuner street car

@Peppita Chips so the first gen rav4 uses the 3s platform. they came with a 3sfe or 3sge. From my understanding both engines are the same block so i would assume that the gte should have no problems mating but for sure dive deep on some more research.

Wow a 4wd one!? That's awesome and must be super rare. If you find replacement parts let us know, our top has seen better days as well.

Parts for soft top no longer available. I suggest 3d printer for the plastic bits, and any top/upholstery shop can redo the top. My velco strips are toast, I replaced the windows myself. I actually remove the soft top in the summer, doesn't rain much here in sacramento

Yay, an X-90 mention!! :-) ..I used to have a very Rare Suzuki X-90 (got some old vids up of it) because of the rare factory extra's it had, not I have a Rav shorty, but not a rag-top!! I'd be scared of leakage after time..
