That's exactly what I keep thinking. Why does this cult still exist? It is so cruel to women and girls and such a huge violation of human civil rights. How is it legal???????

I didn’t grow up in the Kingston Clan, but was raised LDS. And it’s insane how much churches can get away with because of “religious protections and exemptions” 😑

Most is these men are in government positions and in positions of power. Add in the religious exemptions. It’s sad but this is so normal in utah!

But even people like your grandparents have to be cherry picking or selectively interpreting to a certain extent because the Bible has various translations all of which are different degrees of correct/incorrect and it’s also a text that is weirdly specific about some small stuff and incredibly poetically metaphoric and vague about some really major stuff. I doubt your grandparents never ever mix fibres in their garments / outfits for example. I bet they flush the toilet on sundays. It’s impossible to strictly follow the Bible.

I hope that doesn’t come across as rude or like I’m tagging on your grandparents - I’m not at all because as an atheist I don’t think anyone should really be trying to follow the Bible. But yeah it’s impossible to follow it 100% and every single religious person cherry picks and selectively interprets their religious text of choice or at least prefers a certain translation or edition etc

It’s very different from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. For starters, that church does not arrange marriages. People choose who they marry and parents and church leaders do not select them. Also only one spouse at a time.

Yeah it is also very secretive and seems to push people to bottle up their emotions. It seems like everyone needs to get married or else they aren't good enough, especially women who are meant to be wives and mothers. You also need to do certain things to be "worthy" enough to be recommended to even enter their temples - like having to give a certain amount of money to the church itself. From the beginning of the LDS church there have been "apostates" (former members) who have left and condemned it as a seductive cult rather than a religion because of how manipulative and secretive it is. It is also very closely tied to freemasonry, which screams "cult" to me.

@@wanderandwonder121 the LDS church make people feel like they need to get married, but they have a no tolerance policy for abuse and polygamy, they also don't control the members. The members can talk to people who are not in the church, and they go see doctors and get medical help. And you're wrong about bottling up emotion

​@@irishcowgirl21Manipulation and coercive control don't always look like keeping someone locked in a cupboard with no medical care. From what I have heard from former members, the LDS church has a record of members (a roster? I can't remember what it is called exactly, but it is how they determine which ward you belong to) and when they were trying to leave and had even moved States, the church had found where they lived and was sending local LDS members to their houses to try to coerce them into staying. That may not be your experience, and maybe you would argue it isn't standard practice, but I know these former members also didn't believe it was until they experienced it upon leaving. I also understand that if you are LDS, or were LDS but left amicably, then it is unlikely my little RU-vid comment will change your convictions about it. I can appreciate (as I grew up with many LDS friends) that many people have good experiences with it and are happy to be part of it. I also think those who have had other experiences ought to be heard out, and potentially their experiences shed light on what the motivations of the LDS founders and current leaders actually are. I personally think that the secrecy, need to earn salvation through your own efforts, and connections to freemasonry point to the likelihood of nefarious intentions and illegitimacy rather than pure truth.

@@alyssa280 blood relatives can get married in the US . siblings can’t marry in any state (if I’m not mistaken) but cousins can marry in many states; however, you are correct that the law isn’t really upheld in many states .

My Methodist great grandfather wrote in 1926 “beware that in the midst of man’s creed and dogma you lose the voice of the divine”. His point was that man will hijack anything and use it to manipulate people. He advocated kindness and duty to your neighbour but if a religion started telling you what you should think then RUN. ITS SAD THAT 100 years later this message is lost

I try to ask as if I'm an outsider looking in. I was aware of all of this as it was happening and Kami told me about the guys who came forward on her and I knew who she wanted to marry etc I just know that if we were to talk about it as if she was telling me the details...you all would not understand. I cut allot out of me saying "let's reword that so viewers can understand" I know in previous videos I have not been as good at making it easier for outsiders to digest. Sorry long description but YES lol I was very involved with her life growing up.
