In this video, my sister... who has misophonia... is going to be trying ASMR! Honestly surprised at how well she did and how much she owned it even if she doesn't like asmr. Let us know how you think she did in the comments below!! Maybe she'll come back for a part 2 ;)

As a person with misophonia it’s not necessarily asmr that is an issue, it’s very different for people. Personally I’m okay with certain types of asmr, I don’t like mouth sounds, gum chewing ,or eating, and I prefer soft spoken over whispering. but I think it’s so cool to see how someone else with misophonia reacts to asmr.

Yes totally. My ex liked eating videos, but only the crunchy sounds, she hated the wet sounds of chewing and stuff not just in asmr but in general in life haha and she couldnt stand repeatitive sounds like tapping, again not just in asmr but at any time in the day and she hated whispering as well haha

As a person with misophonia, some types of asmr are completely fine and quite relaxing. Things that trigger my misophonia are mouth sounds (especially loud ones), repetition, and slow whispering. Misophonia is described as being angered or annoyed by human sounds, so most solid triggers are fine.

I love asmr and have misophonia at the same time. For me, it’s different on video. If someone was whispering and typing/tapping in real life, I would probably have a panic attack, but in videos I adore it. It’s odd. I think for me it’s time, place, and if I’m anxious to begin with.

that’s what someone else said!! like if they don’t intentionally choose to listen to a noise, they hate it but when they choose which asmr video to listen to they love it!! which is so interesting and honestly makes so much sense!! I think your case is also similar to my sisters because I also found out she doesn’t mind asmr, only hates certain sounds 🥰❤️

It actually seems misophonia might be especially common amongst people who experience ASMR! I have both those things. It's odd but I love mouth sounds in ASMR videos and hate them in eg. podcasts. And then some sounds are just always terrible and some are lovely for my brain. ps. I love your sister's whispering, it's super tingly to me!

so interesting wow!!! I totally feel that honestly, many people have commented that they have it but love asmr. I actually have experienced sometimes throughout the day if I hear asmr without intending to listen it can bother me a little but with intention it’s amazing, and that’s what a little people have said too which seems to be a common theme with everyone!! and so cool how you like it in asmr and hate in podcasts- I definitely think it has to do with knowing you’re listening to asmr versus if you heard them listening to anything else. and her whispers are realllly good I was so surprised 😍😍❤️

I have misophonia as well, it triggers intense onset of rage when I hear someone roar their car or truck past me, the exhaust, someone slamming things down or being loud for absolutely not reason 😂😂 it’s awful.

I have Misophonia as well but its only Mouth sounds/saliva sounds/crunching that really gets me. I get headaches and very irritable. BUT I still love every other trigger in ASMR.

I have misophonia and love ASMR but I can’t stand people popping gum, chewing certain foods and a few other triggers. So people with misophonia just figure out what works for them and ASMRs like your whispers help me calm down and sleep

i have misophonia and i can’t listen to certain asmr triggers without getting driven to insanity. its hard to name specific ones since random ones appear and i just have to click off immediately, but the two that i can name confidently is mic scratching/brushing and gum chewing. however, i can not watch mukbangs to save my life. i will get really aggressive and yes it does cause issues at lunch and dinner. but, its really interesting and cool to see other people with misophonia’s triggers that they hate.

I’m doing cbt therapy for misophonia and I can say it really doesn’t have anything to do with asmr. Basically, it’s just when somes sounds trigger an extreme emotion, usually anger or fear. I lot of people misuse the term and think it’s just when you don’t like a sound, so I don’t blame you. Some people though, like me, can feel actual physical pain when they hear a triggering noise. I promise I’m not trying to be rude I just want to educate people because the term misophonia is misused very often

my sister in real life gets angry at sounds like repetition or chewing as well as crinkling sounds when it’s quiet, it does give her these anxious feelings of anger in real life, i think her doing asmr herself though or knowing that asmr is intentionally producing sounds wasn’t as bad as real life accidental sounds of sounds that are out of her control. I totally understand what you’re saying and did research before I even said she had misophonia, I guess it can also impact people on different degrees as well and I think it’s so cool that you’re doing CBT for it, I’ve always wanted to do cbt for certain things that I have it seems very helpful and I hope it helps for you 🥰❤️

I have misophonia. It's not to be taken lightly so props to your sister for sticking with it. Misophonia is more about not liking certain sounds (not specifically all asmr sounds but there is overlap) and a lot of times it has to do with intention. Someone wildly chewing gum in a quiet environment = literally hell. Someone chewing gum to relax you in an asmr video (on a video you specifically picked) = can be heavenly

Thanks for the quick and thorough response ❤️ Edit: of course everyone is different. Some people are negatively affected by asmr even if it's intentional, just isn't the case for me and others!

For me all ASMR sounds genuinely cause anger, but it's a weird anger that's somewhat calming. Not rage from being frustrated by life or hobbies. Like I'm still mad, and when listening to ASMR my only thought it for it to shut up and go away, but it weirdly makes me feel better even if I hate it. Like I can't stop listening to it.

misophonia is not a dislike to ASMR but some asmr ( like eating , mouth sound and tapping asmr) can cause a reaction . i have severe misophonia and this vid was fine for me ( other people might feel different ) so she clearly has an asmr talent

I started watching ASMR as a way to get used to sounds I hate and try to be more comfortable around certain noises. It allows me to react in a more subtle way and get myself out of situations instead of freezing and getting panicked.
