I would definitely recommend both, but please be aware that they cover very heavy topics. If you are sensitive to on page sexual assault or discussion of the affects afterward, they might not be the books for you.
Hi Kaitlin, First, thank you for participating in Mental Health May. "While You Were Out" sounds like an Important book. I'm also interested in "bodies of Light" I enjoy your balanced reviews. Aloha.
Hi Marilyn! Thank you. Yes, I try to read books for Mental Health May every year. While You Were Out and Bodies of Light are both good books, but difficult to read due to content. Aloha.
I am so happy to hear someone say Severance was just OK! 🎉 I would have said it was less than okay but everyone else in the group I read it with thought it was wonderful 🤨🥴 I’ve added Dragonfruit to my list!
ooh I'm not the only one. I know a handful of people who all thought Severance was just so-so. It had some cool ideas, but the execution was a little strange. I think you will really enjoy Dragonfruit. It's a fun fantasy with borderline cozy vibes and a wholesome romantic element.
I’m impressed with how much you managed to read despite appointments, surgery, and recovery. If you want to try a well-written fantasy with political maneuvering, battles, complex characters and a romance between two mature people who know how to communicate, I highly recommend Radiance by Grave Draven. It is heads and shoulders above the current popular “romantasy” books.
Adding it to the TBR. I don’t read any of the romantasy as I don’t really enjoy romance and smut and it’s not enough fantasy to make it worth it. Thank you!
I am adding The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, Dragonfruit, The Frozen River, and While You Were Out to my TBR right now! Thank you for keeping my reading list packed 😅
I think you’ll like all of them, but Dragonfruit is definitely a light, fluffy kind of read. Thanks for watching. It’s always fun hearing your thoughts on the things I’ve read.
Lisa See is an auto buy author for me, too. I'd like to read The Frozen River, Dragonfruit, and Leftover Woman at some point. I have A Burning, but haven't read it yet.
I laughed when you said you had read less than normal because I knew it would still be more than my highest reading month. Sorry about the chef book. Glad you had a good reading month.
Honestly, you may appreciate Severance more than I did. Lots of people liked it and my issues were more to do with style. Land of Milk and Honey is just not good. I haven't seen anyone enjoy it. I probably should've rated it 2 stars.
You read more on a down month than I do in several months. Haha. I want to try a Lisa See book. They always sound interesting when someone talks about them. Which one do you think I should I read first? Happy Friday! 🌺✨
I know 18 is still a lot of books. I just usually read 20-25, so it was a bit less than usual. I haven’t read every single Lisa See book yet, but my favorite is Lady Tan’s Circle of Women. It is very info heavy and talks about some tough subjects (but so are all of her books really). Island of Sea Women is also fantastic, so that wouldn’t be a bad start either.
A book where someone has a one night stand with Ishmael just seems so strange to me. I've had Choo's Night Tiger on my shelf for *years* and I'm hoping to finally read it this summer.
