Your roses are beautiful and healthy. Congrats on a lovely garden. The first rose you showed is not Souvenir de la Malmaison. This kind of mix-up is not unusual in nurseries, alas. If I had to guess, I would say it is Gertrude Jekyll, AKA Galloping Gert, one of the first David Austen introductions. GG is also a gorgeous rose, but has an ungainly growth habit. You might want to keep it pruned. I was especially glad to see your yellow climbers. You might also like Cl Sunflare, which is also sometimes sold as Cl. Yellow Badge. The HT Gold Glow has a climbing sport; likely that is what you bought.

Alfalfa meal, fish bones, Alaska Fish Fertilizer are the things I've heard about, the fish fertilizer is what I've tried on several plants outside.

I would suggest amending your soil with lots of compost. Roses love it and thrive. Great job. Also the music was so distracting I had to turn sound off to watch, perhaps if you chose something softer to play in background.

I bought mix soil of compost from a nursery every year, but I guess it didn’t help much. do you have any bag brand compost for suggestions?

Beautiful selection and garden. With the problems you are having with a number of varieties it looks like your soil isn't very good. A number of these breeds are known for being robust, but yours are looking sickly but still blooming....which is because of your fertilizer. Can you tell me what you are feeding them with ? Also, from this video your soil looks like a sand base, is this true ?
@vintagegarden93

I use fish fertilizer. And I bought soil from a nursery. I only bought organic soil, I’m in zone 7 NJ and it $60/yd. I was advised to get the best soil from nursery, so I did, but then I see the soil does look sandy and hard after watering. Deep down about 1ft when I dig, it’s only sand and rock down there.
@craigathonian
@craigathonian 9 месяцев назад
Ahh, thought that looked familiar.....I grew up in the Philly / Jersey area. That is exactly the problem, sand,{quarts} adds nothing but drainage to the soil....which is causing the anemia in your plants. { Even though you are feeding, there is very little for this soil to hold onto, so it's basically going right through the soil.} You need to add a clay topsoil mixed with lots of compost. At this point, as the plants should be dormant, i would dig out as much as possible of the soil around the plants....which also means you will need to widen the "island" beds, { the ones with the individual bushes.}....and then mix this sand base with the before mentioned mixture with an added bonus of peat moss. An easier option, and one that is less invasive, is to build a raised bed wall around the plants so you can add good soil on top which will also leave room to mulch, { which goes by the name of "compost" you can get this from state or township recycling centers. This is "Black gold" for organic gardens.} All these components add nutrients AND the ability to hold on to these fertilizers. With these added materials, the next thing that will happen is "worm activity" These critters along with other organisms will carry the good soil through the sandy substrate for you. All you have to do each spring is add another layer of the black compost....then a layer of Non-wood mulch, like licorice root, and remember NO artificial fertilizers, { these add nutrients but kill the natural organisms that help feed the plants.} With this, all you have to do is water and manicure your garden while your roses will take off. Also, with our hot summers you can plant ground cover perennials and annuals around the roses to help block the sun's heat while looking pretty. The more biodiversity, the happier the soil life, the more happy the soil life, the healthier and happier the garden....which leads to bigger and healthier roses. Hope this helps, and let me know if ya have any questions 🙂@@vintagegarden93

I'm afraid your Souvenir de la Malmaison is mislabeled. That is a different rose, I'm afraid. I've grown it for years and color and form are both wrong. So sorry.

I agree. I have the Souvenir de Malmaison and I know is a diferent rose, is a pale pink. But i have a lot of roses and since I didn’t keep the tags, I don’t know how to identificou them. It seems Prencess Alexandra of Kent.
