@@ashablaine Naw, you've just got music in your blood. 2 years? I've been [trying] to play guitar and sing since 1989 (13 years old), I'm "okay," but you're already on another level. Your voice is off-the-chain, too! Well done.
great voice, you don't need that much reverb. u might think it sounds cool but it's exhausting for the audience. try using ZERO reverb for a few songs... you don't need it as much as you think.
Thats really good for two years of playing. Your singing is very good, and playing. You must be proud to pull all that together in a short time. Your brave and very pretty, and talented. Be still and know God
Asha, the very 1st time I saw you perform was when you opened up for Kip Winger in Parker a couple years back. You sounded amazing then and have only gotten better since!!! Thank you for sharing your gifts with us!!!!
You covered all the aspects in easy steps. Very valuable for anyone wanting to know what equipment is needed and how is all connected. Great tutorial job.
Amazing how complex your set up is for acoustic, what you have to go thru to create a performance in addition to actually playing your instrument & vocals. Thanks for the Rig Rundown. Keep on performing & developing. What I ended up with for gear, probably the last list of items that I would've ever thought I would end up trying to make something happen musically. From the demo/sound check, I wouldn't change anything, the Ovation Celebrity works with what you've assembled & it's pretty incredible stuff to listen to. You put yourself out there, learned in the process & get better & more confident every gig. We are our own worst critics, self doubt creeps in, you seem like the type that takes the hits & keep moving forward. FWIW, you've got a new fan here in FL. It's coming together nicely to this point.
@@ashablaine Didn't realize it at the time of watching this video, but your performances is a pretty solid resume with Winger & others heavyweights of the rock & roll 1980's. Looks like you've added a Carbon Fiber Ovation to your instruments. Beautiful guitars. I was surprised that Rainsong guitars went out of business. Ovation has changed hands so many times, I would have thought Rainsong would've been bought, if not by the new ownership of Ovation.
Your guitar looks amazing.... I play with two similar guitars, a korean Ovation and an Ovation copy. My tip for vastly improving the sound instantly is use Elixir Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb strings. I use 011s for standard tuning. Then buy any Dunlop pick you like which is made of the material they call „Ultex“. They have a couple of series where they use Ultex. This synthetic material is the one that sounds more like a natural material like ivory or bone than any other plastic. Together with the Elixir Phosphor Bronze strings you‘ll notice a huge improvement.
This is freaking Awwesssomme 👊👊🙌💪So so cool to hear n see more of your specialness!!! i seriously absolutely absolutely love this 🙌🙌 thank you for fricken sharin’ this, this kicks ass!!! 🔥✌️🎶🔥 my gosh you’ve gots to be fricken’ too much fun 🤩 🙌👊 would love pick your brain lol 🤯 you rock to the core , i could talk to wit for hours 👊🔥🔥🎶🎶 super cool thankx 4 sharing this

18:35 fiuuu.........i like it ............didnt know what to expect after all that talk before play .....and i like the way your guitar sound without anything added .....nice enough for my ears
Hi, I found this video really helpful in terms of the equipment you use to get the sound you want. Presented in a friendly down to earth manner. Thank you, and good luck !
I would definitely recommend when you get a chance to try different guitars out. There are so many great sounding guitars out there that I think would make you sound and play better. The Ovation is good but you should shop around. Good luck. Great video
@@ashablaine no joke , i was jus’ lookin’ at ‘em last week at guitar center, i needed heads it was starring me down to take it home but i can’t afford jus’ yet… soon 🙏😃 i’ll get my hands on one of them, i have decent set up now however i want one LoL 😝 so ty again for sharing this 🙌
Great set up Asha keep the groove going mate. Im going to copy that set up myself sounds uber cool. All the best to you from Perth Western Australia peace out xx
Love the behind the scenes of your process! The setup sounds amazing on video, I can imagine how awesome it must be live! Such an incredible voice! Best to you!
Asha you are the third person I've viewed using lyrics. For years I never had to use lyrics. Let me tell you there are songs I've sung many years. hahahahaha I can not remember the lyrics and I would get so mad. So, I just stopped trying to remember the lyrics. I just use lyrics and think about my performance. So, I know its okay professionally to use lyrics and that is what I do. I am smiling and saying its okay Paula to use lyrics. Having a great performance is the most important thing for me. Thank you for this video.
I think it’s totally ok to rely on live when you have 590 other songs in your head that you need to perform for, especially if you are a musician who is constantly learning new material. For some performances it is necessary to memorize, if you have a shorter set. Not to worry, you’re still a real musician even if you read lyrics lol . I know some musicians line to pick a bone on this topic.
Great video Asha and I want to thank you because you did inspire me to buy the same Ovation as you, the CE 48, same color and I really love it. I have a couple of guitars but this one is so woow, amazing! My main instrument is drums, I played with a band in LA, based in Hollywood, played 12 years in Dublin Ireland with many bands, 2 years with Irish guitar player from the Irish band Thin Lizzy, and upstate New York with Billy Sheehan from Mr Big and The Winery Dogs ... But I love guitar as well. So thank you and keep inspiring, you rock 🤘🤘
That is so awesome you were with an Irish group! I’m Irish so that’s obviously a bucket list of mine 🤣 I’m glad I could be of help to you!! Keep rocking!!!
@@ashablaine That's super cool and I wish one day, you go back to visit your ancestors land, it's so beautiful. Blaine is a Gaelic name and it means "yellow", bright. So certainly bright like you and yellow like the sun. I lived 13 years in Ireland and I can tell you that my heart is Irish.
I own a similar Ovation. Bought mine as I like the neck on it. Yeah, the sound might not be acoustic enough for some, but I rather like it. I can play mine at fairly high volumes with little to no unwanted feedback, that's one of the advantages of the shallow back. Your processed sound for it is fine. For me, I just add a bit of extra low and low mids from a guitar EQ pedal. I leave the guitar's EQ flat. and boost the output from the master volume.
so great on the guitar 🎸 unreal learning curve 🙌👊🔥🤩 i gave myself crash course in bass playing to try n help me groove a lil bit better perhaps behind kit 🤷 you are mad talented, inspiring and a true pleasure to watch, super duper personality to go with it 🔥✌️
Nice work. I started playing out about 5 years ago. I use the Wampler Ego compressor for my guitar. I also use an OC-3 bass doubler and only 10 strings on my Takamine jumbo 12. I use the TC Helicon compressor for vocals, and the other effects are nice in my Roland Ac90 amp which I now use as a monitor with Berringer speakers. I recently added in a Mel-9 pedal for strings, choir, etc. Good Luck. I charge $100/hour.
Nice!! You learn as you go with technology, right? My next pedal I think will be the boss octave pedal to make those lower strings really vibrate with my kick stomp!
Thanks for the video, very informative. I'm new to the solo scene and can relate to your comment about not having a good sound and therefore can't perform properly 😮
Your performance thing is a real job btw, but I know what you mean lol. And your voice is off the charts. Absolutely incredible. Forget people who bitch about you looking at lyrics on stage. Bands and singer-songwriters have been looking at lyrics onstage while performing for a long time now. It's not a big deal at all. That mic looks like the Shure Beta 58A (fantastic mic). Cool setup! And here's to working up to the Ovation you really want! :)
I loved the feel of my Ovation but never grew to like its sound. Too tinny for me. I currently have a Fender Malibu and love it. It's small and comfy with a Fishman pickup.
Love this, excellent setup! The TC Helicon is an excellent piece of equipment. Love the EV tower/speaker set up as well! Nothing like a Shure mic 👍 Nice tones out of the Ovation by the way. Two years, you are amazing and such a great talent. Beautiful voice! Your covers are amazing, I was so taken by your cover of Alone, just so well done... All of them are excellent.
I enjoyed your vid, it was spontaneous so i didn’t mind some back and forth. I appreciated getting a tour of your equipment. You sound good as a performer. Overall i truely enjoye; informative and entertaining .
Will we ever hear you again, singing the same way you did in "I am a Viking?" My personal favorite. Yeah , I know Jeff de Soto, and all, but you did it well.
Hi! This was such an interesting video! I recently spoke with a salesperson who was about to sell me the TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Extreme, but I backed out as it’s three times the price, and I felt he was just pushing a sale. He didn’t mention this model you’re using, though, and now I’m curious-do you still use this one today? I prefer to keep my singing pretty pure and not overly processed-not saying harmonies are faking it, but they do feel like a form of enhancement to me. I don’t play guitar, but I do sing, play some piano, as a beginner, and I’m good with drums since I’ve been playing since I was 6. Now, I want to focus on singing live and recording on my own, rather than singing in a chorus like I’ve done before. Given that I don’t use a guitar but would still like to add some reverb and EQ, which voice processor do you think is the best option for Fall 2024? Also, do you have any advice on how to memorize all songs? and how do you think one best set up a performance-how to prepare the flow of songs in order, and keep things easy to pack up and down? I ask as I get really nervous singing alone, especially since I’ve always hidden in the chorus, but now is the time to step forward and improve my confidence for a cappella and solo performances. Thanks for sharing your setup with us-it looks like you’ve got a great PA system! I think I’m going to save up for something similar now. Have a great day, Chris
There’s one other thing you can do to improve your guitar greatly. Get a luthier to upgrade your nut and saddle with ones made of „Nu-Bone“ or something similar.....
Great video! I loved your setup. I did have a question though. You mentioned the EV you have delay on it as well as the TC, are you running two delays? Or were you just saying the EV is capable of having a delay added?
Good question. I had a little bit of delay and reverb running through my EV as well as through the helicon. It not necessary to have it run through the EV if you are using the helicon as the source of delay and verb
You are soooo cool - I love your enthusiasm🙂 You came a long way ... only thing: You should find a way to turn of (most of) the efx when you talk to the audience.
great vid! You are a fantastic singer! I also use the Ovation Celebrity 44, mine is Koa though. I love it for the same reasons you said. It takes a lickin and keeps on ticking, its a workhorse. I use the Helicon Play Acoustic, mostly to have a harmony on choruses and as an on stage tuner. But what app are you using on IPAD for your lyrics?? I make my own and use google drive. That app might be a game changer for me. Thanks
Right now I also do Google drive! And it works like a charm!!!! And thank you for the review!!! Agreed! The ovations are a work horse! I just bought another one, any to drop a review on that one!
Such an amazing helpful video!! Please do the ones you mentioned on in ears and booking gigs! CYou are a superstar and my guru! Curious how you modify your sound system if at all when you play in duo with Alaine
two years only ? you are talented. thanks for the setup infos. never liked how ovation feels while playing. you get gigs? must be nice. FYI everyone care homes will pay you $75 to $150 and hour. in ears sounds like a good idea so you can hear your own voice good helps with pitch.
How large a space and amount of people do you recon the Ev30M would comfortably cater for ? Lovely to listen too you . Wish I live closer to come see you gig x
Nice video. Some nice hints. I use the LR baggs voiceprint to get a good natural sounding guitar sound and for vocals I like the tc helicon stuff too. But now just use eq and compression on my digital mixer. You might want to try out the Bose T4S tone mixer which givers eq, compression, voice matches for guitar and mics and effects. Good unit
Hi Asha! Thank you for your video. You sound amazing! I am a solo singer and I don’t play any instruments live, usually it prerecorded music or I play with a band. Can I use the TC Helicon Acoustic play just to add harmonies to my voice when I play solo?
Yes the helicon has a multitude of effects you can apply to the voice. I personally only use a little reverb and delay but you can add a doubler, chorus, harmonies, low or high octave voices, different reverb, different delays, compression, and eq’ing. Im glad this could help you! You can use the helicon with your full band too!
do you like having the EV behind you and having it act as a monitor as well as your PA ? also, can you show a video of you using the stomp, it was out of the shot for this video ?
I have a JBL Eon Compact, I place it on an end table just slightly behind me, works like a charm. Your kit is fire though, nice job. I will find your stomp vid too !!@@ashablaine
I have not tried that, but I suggest looking for it in apps. I recently looked for set to go on apps and it wasn’t even there, I think you have to buy an upgraded version. I fortunately lucked out and didn’t have to buy it when it came out! There are tons of lyric apps you can find though that’ll work!
It’s called “Set To Go.” I don’t think it costs anything. The only disadvantage is that it doesn’t scroll while you are reading. Some performers like that, I don’t particularly
I’m in Colorado as well, would you consider doing some collaboration and duo things together? I play guitar and sing some, I have originals and lots of covers, Acoustic and electric. You probably won’t answer but thought I would try. Take care, thanks…
I’m a petite gal too! I would say the sub weighs 35 lbs… when you go to set up/break down the entire speaker, the pole comes a part in 3 pieces and you can tote in a little back pack that is super light. You can carry the entire system in one trip. Toting this around definitely makes you stronger💪 if you can’t carry for very long or the stage is very far away, I suggest also packing a cart with wheels. Or a small dolly.
@@ashablaine Thanks so much. I do have an OnStage cart (highly recommend) got it from Sweetwater. Currently using a Roland Cube EX for busking / small venues. and thinking of getting a column PA for my solo gigs. We have a larger PA for the band , but the guys move that ! ! 🎸 Thanks again Asha.
I’m curious too about your tambourine on foot, is it mic’d up? What brand? And your speaker? Isn’t it a bit too much for a backyard acoustic gig? I love your set up and having a stomp box will be my ideal set up too. I use a bass drum and a hi hat home when i play at home and it looked too crowded if i use that. I love singing and playing acoustic but never had any experience playing for others. A friend is encouraging me to play at his 50th birthday party and I will definitely try this kind of set up. Thanks for this and goodluck to me. I know im old to start something like this, but I think it will give me a lot of good experience with it despite the outcome. Thanks a lot! I just subscribed!
The sound system is not too big honestly. It can fit in little places and you can make the volume as low as you want it! I do not mic the tambourine because usually the sound of the tambo carries in any room. I just bought this simple tambourine from guitar center. It’s a half circle shaped so I can maneuver it with my foot. This stomp box in my opinion is the best option for any kick sound. Much better and cheaper than a cajon with a kick pedal. I hope this helps!
Because I personally like to try to be as raw as I can. I love the harmonies don’t get me wrong. I just prefer to do without it. 😊 also I feel that if I rely too much on harmonies, that I will become lazy in my singing, and hearing any discrepancy will force me to be more on point. Just a preference for me
