@@GreenWolf2k I agree that players are overall more athletic nowadays, but they are not tougher. Back then, a solid defense would fuck you up to stop you from scoring, nowadays they can't even graze you, thus it makes it easy for players to rely on technique and athleticism alone. Guys like Bird were exceptional because he would play at his own pace and impose his game on the opposing teams despite the roughness of the overall game.

Your son kept talking about how all the other players on his team were all-stars. What he doesn't seem to know is that the year before Bird came, the Celtics were horrible. In 1978-79 they were 29-53, second worst in the NBA. Add Larry Bird, and in 1979-80 and the Celtics were 61-21, the best record in the NBA, a one year move from 21st place out of 22 teams to 1st place out of 22 teams. Can you name any other player who has had that much impact on a team? The other players became all-stars because Bird made them better. He also missed that Bird is the only non-center to ever win 3 MVP awards in a row, but more amazing, he finished in the top 3 in MVP voting 8 years in a row. Oh, and Bird is not a point guard, he's a forward.

The young man has no idea what he is saying. Bird is the best all-around player of all time. I looked at 8 different categories and where each of these players places in the top 250 NBA players of all time The categories are Field goal % Points per game Assists per game Steals per game Rebounds per game Blocks per game Free throw % Minutes per game I could only find 1 player that was in the top 250 of all time - Larry Bird. Magic isn't, Jordan isn't, Kareem isn't, Lebron isn't, Kobe isn't, Barkley isn't Chamberlain isn't, Russell isn't, Stockton isn't, Nash isn't, Duncan isn't, Nowitzki isn't , etc. and the list goes on and on As a matter of fact Bird is in the top 60 of all time in 6 of the 8 categories. Bird won 73.58% of the games he played in Lebron has won 66.34% of the games he has played in Bird did not go trying to make super teams to win - he did it all with 1 team Bird is only the 3rd player to win 3 straight MVP's (Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain are the others) Bird started the 50-40-90 club and is only 1 of 2 players to do it in back to back years (Steve Nash is the other) , Lebron has never done it. When Lebron was asked who he thought the 3 greatest players of all time were his response was Larry Bird, Dr. J and Michael Jordan. Stop with the nonsense that Lebron is even close to Bird. The 80s was the most talent rich Era of the NBA. 24 franchises for the majority of the decade compared to over 30 today. Take the top 3 players from 8 teams and distribute them to 24. And this was when free agency was in its infancy. I'm 30 minutes north of Boston, love Larry Legend, and have run the gauntlet goat debate enough times to keep it short and sweet. Larry Bird had 9 healthy seasons in the NBA at its competitive peak. Those 9 seasons hold their own against NBA Legends. LeBron won his 1st title in his 9th season. Bird revolutionized the game more than anyone in history. Want proof? It's given whenever someone takes a 3 across the league. LeBron revolutionized free agency. Do you enjoy 3pt daggers and 4pt plays? What about free agency? If so, do you live in NYC, Miami, or California? One changed the game and elevated the game of his teammates into Hall of Fame Careers. The other changed the league, elevated his team in the off season, with his mates who at minimum were in discussion for the Hall of Fame.

Tell your son he's a denier of the facts! That era was layered with the most talent this league has ever seen! He's a sure shot knowing if the ball is passed to him, it will go in! And the best all-around player ever! The older players had love for the game, unlike a now a day player who has love for the money!

Theyre longer and leaner and faster, but have zero fundamentals. 80% of them cant dribble without traveling, and Harden tucks the ball like a halfback in football. Shit like that got people punched for cheating. Leagie is fulled with soft ass pussies that couldnt handle 10 day contracts let alone last a dozen years like Larry. LeBron would have balled up on the court like the LeBitch we all know he really is. Your absolutely right. Plus the playing style was hardcore! No team nowadays would want to face the Bad Boys Detriot Pistons! They were mean. Bill Laimbeer was probably the meanest guy to ever play basketball. His son wouldnt even give Bird a chance right off the start from watching it. I understand its his opinion and he is entitled to it but he was disrespecting a Icon and Legend that I grew up watching and that is loved by millions! At least go in with a open mind before you start crushing on of the GOAT ! Then dont knock on Bird and say he doesnt have hops well you dont need to have the Ups to play basketball and be good! But that is how much culture has changed from the time I was a kid! I kinda thought it was disrespectf.

If LeBron were White and Larry were Black, JoJo would be looking for all the reasons to defend Bird over James. Ah Youth. Overall no one could play basketball better. Thomas Magic Julius and Kareem (to name a few) all said so. I still say this mix tape is average not the ultimate. The 3 point contest he won in his warmup jacket was third in a row he won. And barely won that one. First he was in red for all star weekend. He blew everyone away when he said "I hope all you guys are thinking about second place cuz I'm winning this". He dropped every ball from the racks minus one or two. Five Larry Birds vs five LeBron James win every time because Larry was a basketball genius.

Larry won the MVP 3 times in a row while Magic, Jordan, and Isaiah were in the league. He got 3 rings without a super team. Larry never ran away from Boston when things got difficult. Imagine if Larry left in 87 to play for Lakers. He would have more rings too but he’s not a coward. He also does not bow down to China like Lebron . . . Larry is forever > Lebron.

You don’t have to like Larry Bird, nor think he’s the best. Absolutely. What this kid's doing is like if I were to have said when I was his age, "Jim Brown and OJ Simpson couldn't play in the same era as Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, or Tyrell Davis." I would just be running my mouth to hype up the era I grew up watching. If someone were to say, "Jerry Rice wouldn't be a top receiver in the same era as Antonio Brown, or Odell Beckham Jr," people would think you're either a straight up fool, or that you're someone who can't be taken seriously as the truth isn't in you. Obviously when you're young you have a certain level of immaturity, but this kid needs to realize that as he grows into being a man, that not being someone to own obvious truths to the point of adamantly pushing an lie is not a manly thing, and is in fact a very feminine trait even though I'm not promoting for women to do that way either. I'm not going to take another man seriously if he claims to be a studied boxing fan, but then claims that Floyd Mayweather Jr wasn't a great boxer, and is adamant about that. That's just showing an obvious dislike towards the man, and that person being salty and bitter about it. You don't have to like the man, or believe him to be the greatest ever, but Money Mayweather is certainly in the conversation of greatest boxer ever and as a man you should be able to acknowledge that. We all have our own perspectives on things, but we need to be honest when evaluating things. I'm not a Lebron James fan. He's woke as a joke, he's immature, and he's desperate for people to think he's the GOAT or whatever even though his stats don't reflect that. He's a very skilled, freak-of nature athlete, with a good overall basketball IQ, but loses more than he wins and he's been building these supposed super teams since 08/09 or whenever he went to the Heat. The thing is Lebron is not great at playing with other great players as for him to be good he has to be the primary focus of the team and be ball dominant. He doesn't play great off the ball. With that said LBJ is one of the greatest players ever. I put him as a top ten player. Not top 5 as again he loses more than he wins. He's got almost 20 years in the NBA. His longevity is very impressive, but his record doesn't reflect a top 5 spot. When you're talking MJ, Kareem, Russell, Bird, Magic, Chamberlain, Shaq, Olajuwon, Dr J, Bryant, Duncan, etc you're in some elite company and top 10 is pretty good. I wonder if 10 years after Lebron retires if people will still be trying to make him out to be the greatest player ever. My guess is that his ranking to start to drop as people start to move past him as they start to forget and move beyond the LBJ hype and are able to make a serious analysis. Still Lebron in his system is a phenomenal player. I would say for this channel this kinds of stuff will get you comments, and maybe clicks, but it's going to turn off people from wanting to subscribe as it's not honest, and if mostly just a young man acting out to troll and false claim. Sports debate just for the sake of argument where someone will push a narrative that they likely don't even believe just to have something to debate with against someone else is not good TV. With that said this is y'alls channel, and you should and can run it as you please, but like me for example I couldn't finish this video as there was just nothing but disingenuous false claims being promoted by the young man. And Bird is just right before my time following the NBA. I was a Jordan fan growing up and started watching it seriously in the 91/92 timeframe.

You're laying it on more than a bit thick like you hold your own opinions, bias or lack there of on a pedestal. Like some form of basketball guru. I'm not saying I disagree though, only if you were actually trying to get through to someone, which you weren't so don't where that guise, you wouldn't be so damn condescending. If I had to sum up this comment in one word, it would be "condescending". A longer summarization would be "using the truth and facts to be passive aggressive". Over-all, not a very good comment, and definately not a comment to be taken at face-value.
@JROC734

@@0001captainawesome what are you talking? You're trying to come across as this overly righteous, intelligent guy that's diagnosing my motives. First of all you're wrong, secondly I wasn't even wanting to grammar check you, but you don't even know the difference between the use of "where" and "wear." You "wear" clothes. "Where" are you going. You struggle "where" others don't. BTW I'm far from being a grammar expert, but without even looking that jumped right at me. Then you want to agree with what I said, followed by ridiculing me.?.? If what I'm saying is correct then who cares what my motives were? Are we trying to deal with facts or feelings? I'm not worried about anyone's feelings, I'm just stating a fact in saying that running your mouth, and speaking obvious fallacies gets no respect from serious people, and is not a manly thing for men to do. But this is a kid. I was a hardheaded kid myself, but I would try and deal with the truth. I used to hate Tom Brady and the Patriots, but I wasn't going to say that Tom Brady wasn't a great QB, or that the Patriots weren't a great team because at that point I'd be lying and people wouldn't take what I was saying seriously. Leave those feelings to the broads, and as a man deal with reality. I'm not trying to change this kid. He's a kid, and he's going to do what he's going to do. He can read it, and reflect on his approach to making reaction videos of NBA legends, or he can totally dismiss what I said. I couldn't care less. The only thing that I was recommending if I remember my comment correctly was more to the dad saying that this kind of stuff is probably going to prove more harmful than it is helpful at growing this channel. I just wasted 9-10 minutes watching someone talking BS. If I didn't like Mike Tyson, and I made a reaction video of a Tyson highlight tape, and I claimed that all the modern day heavyweights would beat him easily, and that if I was just 20-30 heavier that I could of beat him down then neither you or anyone else would take what I was saying seriously, and you sure wouldn't subscribe to my channel because I'd just be talking BS and running my mouth. That or I'm just a total delusional idiot. And no I'm not fanboying out over Bird. This video could be about Glenn Rice for all I care. I like Bird as much as any other NBA great I've never watched in real time. I grew up watching Jordan, Shaq, Penny, AI, TMac, Kobe, Carter, etc. I'm not a sports guru on anything. I'm an adult, and am not a sports analyst. I don't have time to invest that much energy in becoming an expert on any sport. I enjoy watching sports, but I don't claim to be the biggest expert in any sport. I do know Bird is one of the greatest basketball players to ever do it though, and I do have a higher opinion of Bird than LBJ, and that's not based on Lebrons talent, but his mindset. As far as me being condescending or passive-aggressive what are you trying to say? How am I being condescending. I'm saying this kid's talking chit and he knows he's not being honest. If I am being passive-aggressive I really don't care I guess. I don't get into all this modern terminology where people claim someone's being passive-aggressive, or has too much toxic masculinity, or whatever else. I mean what are your pronouns? See what I'm saying? I don't care.
