We like the lower floors, too, as you have mentioned in a couple of your RU-vids. It makes you feel as if you are part of what is happening on the beach, etc. even if you are on your lanai.
Great review of the Outrigger! By the way, the yellow catamaran on the beach, does that belong to the hotel? Or can the hotel reserve excursions on it for their guests?

What room type did you have and what months out of the year is sunset right off that balcony? I am surprising my daughter with a trip there for her 16th birthday in June!
How exciting ! So happy for you! Im afraid in June the sun is already way to the right , so you won't be able to see sunset from the balcony. I think May until late August , no straight sunset in Waikiki. I had ocean front room .As for sunset , you can still see sunset in June ( I think!) from Kapiolani Park . Always recommend renting a car and driving to either west side or north shore , you can def catch a sunset over there in June. Let me know if your need any more info :)

I have never stayed at the Modern , its closer to Hilton Hawaiian Village ( very pretty) but its not directly in Waikiki so you have to walk 20-30min to Waikiki. My order here would be 1.Outrigger Waikiki , 2.Hyatt Regency ( have stayed here many times, do like the location and views from the hotel , rooms are pretty spacious ) and then 3.The Modern. Again. Wrong. Hotel. Please please skip all the people from Kansas. And go to a ture Hawaiian experience. Please trust me. It's the Kaimana beach front hotel. At diamond head with your own beach. You will not hear people asking for apple butter at the restaurant. Please try it you will thank me!
