What was missing from the toilet was a tissue-paper toilet seat cover. They're commonly found in American restrooms, but it's not unusual that the package is empty. There are several direct to video "American Pie" movies that are only slightly related to this one, however the core movies are; American Pie (1999) American Pie 2 (2001) American Wedding (2003) American Reunion (2012) These all have the same cast and are definitely worth watching. You can skip the following films; American Pie Presents: Band Camp (Video 2005) American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile (Video 2006) American Pie Presents: Beta House (Video 2007) American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (Video 2009) It's not that they're all bad movies, they're just spinoffs from the main movies, sometimes with maybe one supporting character, like Jim's Dad, in them.

- Not gonna lie, I would consider myself genuinely blessed if my dad was like Jims Dad - He is hands down a perfect parent, not pushy or overbearing, but absolutely not unwilling to discuss ANYTHING his children might need, probably would DO anything for them, and yet while all of this, he is so Damn thoughtful and friendly and genuine. Sad to say he is a fairy tale parent; parents like him aren't real, we just wish they were.

So...the Nadia on the internet thing. The reason that worked at the time as "comedy" is that the internet was still in its infancy, a good chunk of the film's audience did not have regular access to it at that point, and the concept that anything you put on the internet was there _forever_ and that _everybody_ could see it had not yet sunk in. Plus, with the actual technology of the day Jim's webcam would have been broadcasting a slideshow at best...several seconds between images, *lots* of stuttering and buffering, and at a resolution not far off of the "scrambled" porn Jim was watching at the beginning. So it's not just a case of the prevailing morality changing between then and now, it's also an instance of the technology advancing tremendously and the public's _awareness_ of that technology increasing along with it. It also helped that Jim became the "victim" of the broadcast as much as Nadia did. Incidentally, Jason Biggs also became a victim of that scene...he wound up with heatstroke after filming the part where he's running back & forth between the houses.

At least three people in this film were in the Jay and Silent Bob movie. Nadia was Justice. Stiffler was the guy who Jay threw out the van. You already knew who Jason was.

At this point, Alyson Hannigan was only known as Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who played a similarly meek and nerdy character at that point. Her big twist was such a shocking departure against type.

My sister was an extra on the 4th movie, American Reunion, which they filmed around the Atlanta area not far from where we live. She said the whole cast was very nice, and that Sean William Scott (Stiffler) was the most normal and down-to-earth person she'd ever met.

I think this entire series is great. If you enjoyed this one you will enjoy them all.

I don't think I've ever felt quite so old as when someone sees Alyson Hangigan and goes 'hey she' s from 'How I met your Mother!' rather than 'Willow!' 😪

When it comes to movie dads, Jim's dad is the GOAT. No matter what, he loved his son and was always there for him. That's all we can ask for in a father.

American Pie 2 is absolutely hilarious. It's even better than the first one. If you enjoyed this, you HAVE to watch American Pie 2. First time I watched this with a friend there's a scene in the middle of the movie (the scene is with the Michael Jackson song Smooth Criminal) that we were litterally rolling on the floor laughing.

I think you missed it, but there was a great cameo in this movie. When Jim and Nadia were broadcasted on the internet, the band who stopped playing and sat by the computer to watch the "show" was Blink 182! They also play the song when Jim is running :) Btw, it's so crazy that I remember watching this movie as a 12-year-old a few months after it came out, and now more time passed since Reunion than it passed between American Wedding and Reunion! 🤯

This was 1999, computers were still a one-per-family thing. Many households still didnt even have one. The video streaming aspect alone wouldve been cutting edge for the time since most people who even had PCs and the internet at all wouldve only been on dialup capable of loading a single frame every second or two.

Lots of teenagers who were born in the 80's and 90's didn't really get told a lot about consent and when media like this normalized a lot of questionable or outright illegal things...it definitely did some damage. Lack of communication from parents and schools meant people learned from their friends and from what they saw on TV. Frankly there are a few things I did as a teenager that I wish I could undo.

My mom took me to see this my junior year in High School, she was the only adult, the whole graduating Senior class was there and saw us walk in and were stunned. My Mom was laughing the whole time and loved it thought it better than Animal House. Those seniors invited me to their grad night because they thought my Mom was the coolest and didnt know how a nerd like me had such an awesome Mom. Also, for my 18th bday she took me to Hooters. She was pretty awesome now that Im typing this out.

Great choice to watch Mary, American Pie is classic comedy gold, and really funny film on rewatches, Jim’s Dad and Stiffer are both my favourite characters in the series!

Hi Mary! I don't mean this in a harsh or disrespectful way but I felt while watching this movie, you were taking it far too seriously. It's not meant to be taken in that way. It's meant to be taken in a fun, lighthearted way. Yes, it covers some issues related to being a teen but does so in a funny way and in some cases, overly exaggerated. I get also, as you mentioned, you grew up in a very sticked household and do that might play a part in how you were with this movie. It's worth remembering that when this movie came out and even before in the 80's, people were more relaxed, not as serious as they seem to be today and took everything with a pinch of salt. I enjoy the American Pie series all the way up to Reunion. I did enjoy Band Camp, Naked Mile and Beta House even if they are weaker than the first 3 with no characters from the original except Eugene Levy. Book of Love was a miss though.

Saw this twice when it came out. The first time was in the movie theater with a bunch of friends when it still had it's NC-17 rating. The second time was as a double feature with "Lake Placid" at the drive-in theater on a date.

Yeah American Pie 2 and 3 are great too. 2 is a good continuation of everyone's story post high school, with heaps of laughs. 3 changes it up slightly and takes it a step further into early adulthood. I think 3 probably rates a little stronger with a female audience but it is definitely funny too. I would love to see you react to both! I enjoyed your reaction to this and your use of some great Aussie terminology, like "rooting your mother" etc. 😁This movie came out around the time I and all of the other first millennials graduated from high school and it was really iconic, along with a lot of other great movies made for teens back then.

This is the first time I've watched this in about 20 years, and I think I enjoy it in twice as many ways as I used to. Just a barrage of moments of "That was me, I was that stupid!", and yet still glorious all in their own way.
