this song is so fricking good, underrated, and THE VOCALS AND THE MUSIC AND H AND THE SOUND EFFECTS everything about it is on point and as a musical theatre student, I love it.
If you think of it Phantom of the Auditorium (POA) Has to be one of if not the most tragic goosebumps story, think of it like this You're a Middleschooler, excited for your big play. Your family and friends are all watching and waiting for you but as the lights go dim and dark you fall.. down a dark and long cave...you scream as loud as possible and.. **CRACK** Now you're forced to haunt the school you died in for 73 long years until you see your opportunity to do your final play and accend but you've made friends and have even fell in love but now you must go "and though I wish that I could stay I fear that I really must be going.." and as you reassure your love and thank her "I found my peace at last just knowing.. ive finally played the part that I was born to the play, said the lines ive waited years to say.. and until we may meet again some distant day.. thank you for giving me a ending to my tragic play..." and you dissappear
The book feels very underplayed compared to this, this gives in my opinion more complexity to the Phantom. Plus the Phantom of the Opera is a love story, so I’m glade they worked it in here.
