My Story to Med School - Advice to Premed Students - Why YOU Can Do it Too [Motivation]

My Story from High School Student to College Premed to Med Student: I give an overview of my journey, my story from high school to college to medical school. More importantly, I go over the lessons I learned that were key in my own success. If you're on the premed or healthcare path, I hope this story gives you perspective on the med school admissions process.
Challenges and obstacles effect everyone. The ball is ultimately in your court. "I cannot change life but I can change how I react to it". Resilience, determination, and perseverance will serve you well as a high school student, college premed, medical student, and in all aspects of your life. Find out how to motivate yourself, as it is ultimately motivation that will carry you through tough times.
Additionally, prioritization, focus, and discipline will guide your actions and behaviors that will culminate in whether you gain acceptance to medical school or not. It boils down to how bad you want it. At the same time, balance is key to prevent burnout. Remember, its a marathon, not a sprint!

Reason why people drop out of med school: "their desire to do medicine is less than their desire to do other things" i wrote that in my phone. im going to write it on paper and put it on my wall. My biggest time waster is Netflix. Next time I'll ask myself if I'd rather be a doctor or would I rather watch The Office again. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video, this video is so motivating and it has made me realize how bad I want my dream to become a reality. I am a rising sophomore in college and I wish that I did better during freshman year because it was a big transition from high school to college but this video has made me realize that I need to work towards my goal to achieve it. Next year, I'm definitely going to stay on top of my game and push myself more than I did freshman year.

Goodness discipline and perseverance is what you need. Science is a way of thinking, once you understand the scientific method, you understand how science works. To excel in science you need creativity, a bit of logical thinking and the urge to discover.

I am a medical student ,and sometimes I feel down, and I feel burned-out. I even had sleepless nights ,when I just stayed up late ,thinking about what would I be doing ,what would be suitable for me,besides med school, and I did not come up with a firm answer,I really believe that some of us become addicted to it ,and simply cannot back down ... there are a lot of difficulties that we ,future doctors have to face in order to reach our goals, especially in my country, but I won't let it stop me . My key to success is reading as much as I can, because the amount of information given is beyond any human's capabilities ,and there are always new therapies, new viruses, new diseases that need to be discovered, studied carefully and applied efficiently to make a better world....thank you for this motivational video,it cheered up my day,and motivated me to keep a positive attitude ,and continue on with it!

I'm a senior in high school and I've been planning on going pre-med. The only problem with me, I never made the absolute best grades in high school. Do you have to have perfect grades in high school to make it through pre-med???? I'm so insecure about this. I'm definitely planning on changing my study habits. I want this more than anything. Like this is my dream. I want to help people. I LOVE medicine. I just find it so interesting. But I keep asking if I'm good enough to be able to do it all

Thank you so much. I graduated from high school two months ago and I will be going to medical college within 2 weeks. This has given me motivation. Sometimes I'm too scared of medicine college because everyone keeps saying that it's so hard, so long, etc .. sometimes I think if I'm even going to do it or not? I also think whether i'll even have time to go out with friends.. which scares me too. But I will give it my all, and I know I can do it. Because this whole thing that I've chosen to make is a very big challenge .. a challenge that will last for years. and I know I will be super proud of myself if I can succeed in this challenge, and wear my white coat. Although you have to study more years than any other college, but doctors are really highly paid, especially those who have worked hard and studied many certificates. My older brother is a pharmacist, and his best friend is a doctor. His best friend hasn't graduated yet, and my brother is currently working. One thing that my brother told me is that although he is currently working, but he knows that his best friend, in only a few months, can collect money more than my brother did in all his years in his career. What he told me has given me enough motivation. Although you're going to study for so long, so hard, but eventually, you will get the results. You will be a doctor, who saves people, who is highly paid, who people look to with respect. I can't wait to do it. To look back and be proud of what I've made.

Honestly, thank you so much for this and all your other videos. I'm currently a junior in high school, and I've known I wanted to go to medical school and become a physician for some time now, but I got off to such a rocky start this school year. I had surgery less than two weeks before school started, so I was still kind of healing and I couldn't carry as much books as I was used to, and unfortunately I fell behind in the first marking period. Needless to say, I was very disappointed in myself, and I was feeling very unmotivated to even try again. Just looking at my friends who are on the same path as me, and feeling down because I know of the acceptance rates of the universities I want to apply to. However, one of your videos popped up in my recommended, and I've been obsessed with it. From this video, I learned that the road to med school, and more importantly, the road to becoming a physician is never gonna without zigzags and challenges, and if I want it bad enough, I can't just give up at the first sight of an unpleasant grade or test score. Thank you so much for teaching me that I can and I will get through med school by my own work and will. Thank you so so so much, and you have an amazing, beneficial channel and website!!!

I was a slouch during highschool until faculty even the first 2 years because i didn t know how to study efficiently and my time management was very very bad. That resulted in me having to repeteat the 2nd year of medicine (right now) and this the thing you said it has to happen to everybody. Now i realize how i need to study, how to manage my time, and so on.

I did poorly in high school. Like really bad. I was going through a lot and as a child I didn’t know how to cope so my grades suffered severely. So I decided to join the navy. I only expected to do 4 years and get out. I’m now at almost 6 years with 2 more left on my contract. One thing the navy has done for me is that if I truly put my mind to something I can do it. I’ve been thinking about getting into medicine and have zero college. I’ve been out of school for more than 5 years and one thing that I keep thinking about is what if I don’t do good enough in undergrad or what if I do good enough for undergrad but not for med school. Fortunately my experiences with the navy ease that thought a bit. But also this video. I think what a lot of people need to understand is that in med school you don’t need to be perfect. And this video does help to convey that a bit (at least for me)

I am not in the situation of applying medical school (I am in my early 30s, have strong interesting in medicine. However, there're other heavy family responsibilities I have to take on daily basis so my interest does not have priorities). Anyway, your video has such positive energy and strong thoughts. I am glad to see medicine filed will have excellent physicians like you to help us. I strongly agreed hardships are opportunities to build inner strength.

I am a performing artist but I really want to see what it's like to be a doctor it's a huge decision to make but I know I can do it and I'll give it a start. this really tells me that I'd be a better doctor without stressing myself out but work really hard to achieving my goals in life

I loved this video. I was born with mild cp, and as a result, I had two orthopedic surgeries at Shriners Hospitals for Children. My orthopedic surgeon is amazing and you can tell he is in it because he loves medicine and his patients. I now have a dream to be a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Thank you for this video!

just discovered your channel and it's already been super helpful! you briefly mentioned scholarships in this video. could you possibly talk more about scholarships? i.e. finding them, applying for them, writing applications, etc.

Could you possibly give a few examples of how you studied *inefficiently* ? I think that would actually be helpful to see how you studied 'wrong' or 'ineffectively' and how you realized there was a better way to manage your studying time. Thanks!
