I mean I did this musical in my school and I played the role of Mereb, but I just want to see this on broadway, i've never seen a broadway musical so I hope they revive this musical so I can have the chance to see it.
Jahdiel Benzant I never gone to New York before but I've been avidly attending touring productions for ten years. The first was Wicked at the Pantages in Hollywood. That's cool that you played Marengo. Sometimes I want to get a time machine escape to the year 2000 when Heather Headley was Aida.
Amneris is easily my favorite character in this show, The opera is great, but I love how this musical changed her character from a nasty, duplicitous love rival to a three-dimensional character. She's spoiled and sheltered, sure, but she's also brave, open-minded and kind. She's allowed to be devastated when Radames prefers Aïda over her. She feels like a person in her own right instead of an obstacle and it's refreshing. Making Amneris sympathetic made the whole love triangle so much more fascinating and tragic since it involves three people who actually all care about each other and don't want anyone to get hurt. And in another time and place, they probably all could've moved passed it and stayed close, but the time and place were not on their side.
It will be nice if they revive this musical. Better yet ...it will be wonderful if they turn this musical into a movie, which they supposed to back in 2010 and they brought it back last year, but canceled it.
Disney is responsible on making Aida into a movie since they own rights to the musical production. More true awesome facts that Beyonce was approach to play Aida and Christina Aguilera as Amneris. Disney was planning to make and release the film last year, but decided to make Into the Woods. I have to say that Aida maybe not turn into a movie for a while... hopefully they will bring it back up again.
Disney...come on. This show is so iconic and you’re depriving people of this full number, which is phenomenal! It’s not like whatever revival you do is going to star Sherie or have the same staging or costumes. And this song gives away no plot points. Should be the full 5-6 minutes.
I love Sherie Rene Scott. She is my favorite woman on Broadway. I mean, she's just... words cannot describe the awesome that is Sherie. This also happens to be my favorite song from Aida. :)
As a sophomore at my high school, I was chosen to play the role of Amneris for my high school's musical, and I have never been more excited for a role!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
You know. In the past, I played Eponine in Les Miserables, Paulette in Legally Blonde, and even Christine in Love Never Dies, but playing Amneris in Aida was the most fun I have ever had on stage!
and speaking as an audience member I loved every performance of Aida that I saw absolutely amazing actually saw it twice in a weekend... then two more times the following week love it

I remember doing this number back in school. Used to love this song and how it brings happiness but now it’s just sad .. I miss how things were so simple back then 💔
I have to say. I saw this on Broadway and I liked it better than any disney on broadway show. I have seen them all and I like this one better than Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, and (yes even this one) the lion king. I love Aida. It needs to be revived!
@RosesNightengales There's plenty!!! She's on the AIDA cast album, first off, and she's also on the following albums: The Last Five Years, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Little Mermaid, Everyday Rapture, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. She's AMAZING. Plus she has a solo album.
This is Sherrie Renne Scott's defining song and role to me. I've gone through so many other versions of this song and this one is just THE version for me. I intend it to be my first drag song. Love yah girl ❤
i think this was early on when the show was just being released so it was prolly the original version that got changed into what it is now, either in a work shop or the first few yrs it was on broadway
@majesticinternatinal Actually, it's a great representation of the character. The character we meet anyway and watch for the majority of the show anyway. She has a bit of development. It's based off the opera of the same name. (Wikipedia it.) Well, it's based off another interpretation (for kids) of the opera. And it was originally intended to be a Disney animated film, which is pretty obvious; Right after I saw the show I thought "This would make a better animated film."
