Stumbled upon your channel a few days ago, Andrew. It's the last day of June 2018 and coincidentally it finds me setting up my very first studio space. I learned a lot seeing and listening to this episode. I'm 74 with many interests, and art is a new one. There's little time to get it right. No reason we can't make the studio both functionally efficient and inspiring too. I'm finding art goes hand in hand with photography, writing and psychology. Like a palette of colors, they are disciplines that lend themselves to being readily blended. Each contributes to the stories we seek to tell. It makes sense to keep our research and our library of books, computer programs and tools together within easy reach.
Just love how professional, but thrifty, crafty, but humble, talented, yet learns along with his audience...you, are def the guy that inspired me to dive deep into painting. Thanks for that andrew! I've grown years in a short amount of time due to your videos.
You mentioned that one requirement for the objects you keep around for inspiration is that they put a smile on your face. I kept waiting to see you smile and you finally did for a sec at the end. You are an amazing artist and you inspired me today, hope to see you smiling more on your videos. Thank you .
Thanks Andrew for making all things art interesting and giving us the down and dirty about things most artists don't share like setting up an art studio, brushes, paints and necessities.
Love your new digs in New Zealand. My Dad was there for R&R during Ww2. The majestic country is all he spoke of during his 4 yr.tour.. Your dog and cat are a must.. Thankyou for your excellent instruction. Hiyo from NJ
This video clip is SO welcome. I have had to move 5 times in the last 18 months so I am really impressed how easily your systems are relocatable. Thank you so much. My friend and landlady was totally interested in the ventilation section. I think we are going to implement this in my room. Now I just have to find out how to store my finished and "in progress" canvasses.
Your videos are helpful and I love how your studio tour is different than all the other studio tours on youtube, you key in on points and not just showing off all of your materials but rather give tips on how to set up and what works for you.
Looking at other artist’s studios never gets old. I really appreciate seeing the change from large to small studio! Also, I realize that I should be thinking more about ventilation.
Happy to see you settled again, can't wait for your next upload. It was interesting seeing your studio setup, I'll reassess ours. Thank you for your generosity & dedication, you are inspiration personified.
Andrew, i just came across your channel! and i just want to say something. your channel is everything that i need. covers absolutely every aspect of art and artist's life, thank you and very well done! wish you loads of success!
Love your animals. They clearly love YOU! Thanks for this - I'm going to share it with my partner. We're renovating our home right now and part of the plan is to incorporate a studio space. Currently I paint in the dining room and the light is challenging. Thanks for the inspiration and the things to consider! Again, I'm watching you EVERY DAY. You rock.
Wish you great luck in your fantastic new domicile and studio. Always enjoy your clips. And your tutorial dvd Southwest Seascape that is a valuable refresher course even when I'm doing a portrait. You are a great instructor.
Great video! I finally started trying oil paints after finding a set of 10 tubes for $2 at the thrift store! Loving it so far! For my fan I used an old window fan thing that has a reverse setting to push air out. Not sure how it will work next winter as I worry while running it will leave my studio too cold or cost too much in heating since it pushes it out 😅
I am just now setting up my painting studio. in my printmaking studio! Quite a challenge, but your organization of a small space is inspirational! Love your work, you are a master!
Thank you Andrew. You are my inspiration. Perhaps one day I will be able to paint in such beautiful studio as yours. I wish you successful and satysfaction in your new studio and all the best for you and your wife in a new place in New Zealand .
Just now came across your video...this is what I've been looking for, for my own studio! thank you! I booked mark this and will forward it to my builder!!!
Very informative video. I am "organized challenged" and I have finally turned to RU-vid to find some tips. RU-vid literally has everything and anything one needs to know about a subject. Still it is painful to start this learning process of how to organize but with such a small house I have no alternative. Getting out of one's comfort zone to start changing one's house/studio environment is quite the challenge.
Thank you! I'm new to your channel, which I discovered randomly while searching oil painting tutorials. Thank you for your sincerity and for genuinely sharing your knowledge and experience with aspiring painters like me. I watched several videos this evening taking notes. Joined your Facebook Page and subscribed to your website. Merci beaucoup!
thanks Andrew, Great quick clip and fun to see your sense of humor shining through : ) I just happen to be packing up, fitting my life in a small moving container as well - a new home and smaller studio ahead. I am looking forward to more time dedicated to painting , so it was inspiring to see you settling in. Good luck in New Zealand. It looks heavenly. Also, I think you were teasing us with that gorgeous painting of the bird in the background. I can't wait for that video!
Great advice as always...but if I was you I would buy 2 or 3 garden sheds and join them up into a slightly larger studio out in the backyard..you can also hack 3 or 4 ceiling Windows om them...i've done this before and is great!! Keep the good work dude love your painting!!
This is SO helpful, thank you! Now I just need to fit it all in my bedroom and still feel comfortable and able to rest in my bed, lol. Can't wait to have a seperate room for art!
What a great place to live Andrew. Hope it is worth downsizing for that view. Thanks for all your invaluable advice. I have just downsized myself and will be trying to create a working space in my garage.
Excellent advice and video, Andrew. Really quite inspiring for me as I moved countries very recently too (UK to Kapiti Coast, NZ)! I am painting already and slowly getting my head around how I need the space to be. So it was great to see your clip, especially including Horus too 😁 Lovely work by the way, and I hope all goes well. We are very fortunate to be in such an amazing place and I do think it inspires and lifts the work more.
*Showing your first oil painting* Me: "Oh, how nice! Utterly brilliant for a first shot with oil painting. I wonder how old he was, maybe late teens...early adultho-10 YEARS OLD???? JESUS!" So you were just...always amazing then. Confirmed.
Thankyou for this video! You mentioned things that I as a student didn’t take into consideration. I now have an idea of things that should be included into my new studio other than just what inspires me and functional working space. A thoughtful friend of mine recommended this video to me so kudos to them for introducing me to your channel! Again, thankyou:)
Amazing video! Thank you so much for all tips and advice. I am not painting but have small craft space which I'm gonna move to other room. This was very helpful. Btw your art is stunning. All paints looks stunning.TFS
really really beautiful backyard 😊 didn't know that NZ is so beautiful.. and for the studio... really great organised and really beautifull.. good luck with new projects... p.s can we see your sketchbook ... you must have ... also the sculpture of the fish is really like a live fish
Andrew Tischler plz be quick. Can't wait. :D. By the way. How much would it cost to let a painting be done of a photograph? Me, my daughter and girlfriend. Just on a small pallet.
Love your videos and style of recording (Oh yeah and your paintings are AMAZING!! lol) I'm about to start a painting/art channel with my pals and you've given my plenty of inspiration to get to it and PAINT. Keep up the great work/paintings/and videos!
Have you heard of P.I.V. Units that Amazon sell? If not, they take air via the roofspace and push it throughout the whole house to keep airflow. It may be of interestvto you, regards, Joe.
I thought I was the only one that had the "Artist Clutter" syndrome, but you hit it the nail on the head, all that clutter is basically things that I need to inspire me. You gave me an idea that will help me declutter. Is there a way to have a standing wall easel? I'm not allowed to make more holes than usual on the wall and I need an idea for a wall easel that is not connected to the wall whatsoever I don;t want a regular easel either. Any suggestions? Thank you for your videos and am looking forward for the DIY lighting.
Set up the same rig, but weight it at the bottom, and give it a lean of about 10 degrees from vertical. No holes needed! But, be careful for the angle of incidence with the light. It could throw more glare your way.
Great video! One question, to complete the ventalation system you are simply drilling a hole towards the bottom of the door near the hinges? Ask for forgiveness instead of permission is one of my motos too. Because I'm gonna do it anyway, let's skip the unessesary hassle. Thanks for this video much appreciated!
Hi, I watch you all the time, and I am grateful for your great tips. However, I need to set up the ventilation in my room, and would love to know what size ventilator is best for an 8x10 room. Please help.
