I grew up washing dishes by hand as well. The dishwasher was used as a drying rack! I didn't start using the dishwasher until I lived with my now husband.
Suggestion as soon as you see or remember something you need at the grocery put it in your phone’s clipboard then you’ll have a list for the grocery store
