Every time I visit a doctor’s office, the nurse/assistant is amazed that I am not on any prescriptions. I am “only” 56 so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but apparently most people our age are on prescribed drugs. I, like you Angie, control my cholesterol through diet and exercise. I take a few supplements, calcium for my bones, fish oil for my eyes, and a multivitamin. But nothing can replace eating right, daily exercise, and lots of sunscreen!

I am a cartilage researcher (which is mostly composed of collagen). Just from understanding how collagen is produced in the body, I really do not think that collagen supplements work. The collagen supplement will just be broken down in the stomach and be equivalent to any other protein source. Think of it like each protein is a specific “word” but then the stomach breaks it down into individual “letters” so it doesn’t really matter what “words” you put in to begin with. Even if the collagen survived i don’t think that cells would be able to just add it to the tissue. Instead you want to take supplements that would promote the cells to make their own collagen. Taking a high vitamin c dose makes more sense to increase collagen production in my opinion, but who really knows. Science is very spotty when it comes to supplements...

I agree and I’m not even a researcher. 😅 after years of wasting money on that I was finally done after reading the studies and doing my research. Plus I hated adding collagen to water or smoothies, it just ruins everything.

I agree. Thanks for this. The vitamin and mineral supplement industry is worth billions, and is mainly marketing. Before doing a medical degree, my daughter first did a Master's in Biochemistry and said exactly the same. If you don't live in a third-world country and have a healthy balanced diet, don't have a compromised immune system or other serious illness, or live in Scandinavia, you don't need any supplements. Unless you're vegan and therefore need B12, you're just producing expensive pee, because an excess is just passed out as waste. Moreover, an excess of some vitamins and minerals can be harmful. Too much vitamin D, for example, can cause hardening of the arteries and lead to a heart attack. An excess of some other vitamins can cause serious skin problems. In addition, haemochromatosis is far more common than many people seem to realise and is fatal with too much iron. As for many antioxidants, they're best consumed in their whole forms rather than as supplements and so-called "detox" drinks. We don't need to "detox" ourselves. This is marketing hype that gullible people buy into. Antioxidants will have dispersed once they reach the gut if taken in a processed form rather than in their whole, natural form. As for bovine gelatine and the like, there's still a risk of BSE. It's best to stick to a healthy, balanced and varied diet, take exercise, get plenty of sleep, and reduce stress - such as worrying too much about taking multiple vitamins. Intermittent fasting boosts cell regeneration more than pills and is also cheaper. Practising mindfulness meditation is also good for both the mind and body. Sometimes, less is more. 😉🧘🏻‍♀️🥦🍊🛌🏃🏻‍♀️✨ = 💊

I saw my brother in law (he’s 52)recently and noticed his skin looked amazing. He has chronic stomach issues, is a heavy smoker and drinker. I commented on how he looks really good. He was given marine collagen that he drinks, from a health food store. He doesn’t care less how he looks though :-). I can’t recall what it was. However, I’m definitely adding this to my supplements.

I started taking the Vital protein collagen 2 years ago, wasn’t sure if it was doing anything for me, got out of my routine basically stopped it for about 6 months. I realized my joints started hurting more and I felt like my hair was so dry and damaged. So I restarted the collagen! I take the one that is sourced from grass-fed pasture raised bovine hides (probably why it is so expensive). It’s the powder form, 20oz container and I order it from Amazon for about 45.00. I feel like for me personally the collagen has helped. Hope this information is helpful for someone!

agree with you not based on my own experience here I'm going to go off of what my husband has told me how he's felt since he started taking the vital peptides collagen with bovine in it he has noticed a huge difference in his joints he was starting to get a lot of joint pain in his knees well he started taking the vital protein collagen and after just a few weeks he noticed a difference his joint pain was gone in his knees they weren't hurting anymore so I'm a true believer I'm sold so now I'm taking it not everyone is going to have the same results you have to give something to try you have to give it a fair try before you decide that it's not going to work for you along with a healthy diet and exercise I have learned that there's no miracle peel out there you have to do your part on eating good staying away from a lot of the bad food fast food places any you know all the junk that's out there that we're faced with every single day of our lives that's what you have to stay out of I had just recently gave up red meat I don't really eat that much red meat I try to stay away from it it's sometimes it's hard but I think it's a lot easier then say I give up chicken and turkey I can't give those things up I can't go vegan but I can give up red meat.

I've been taking the Vital Proteins once or twice a day for about 4 months and the biggest benefit has been a substantial reduction in joint pain. So much so that I no longer need to wear my orthotics for Plantar fasciitis! Before taking the collagen supplement, my feet and ankles would ache so badly after only about 20 minutes of walking I could barely stand. This has been a miracle product for me and I'll never stop taking it. I buy it at Costco which is definitely less expensive than Whole Foods. I should add that I don't see a huge difference in my skin, hair and nails but I'm okay with that.

Love your reviews Angie - also watched Dr. Dray - and totally respect her point of view - my personal experience- collagen consumption has strengthened my hair, skin and nails. Angie, I'm only 30 and found your channel awhile ago and I loooove it!! You have got me reaching for sunscreen more often. I'm a nurse with a bit of background in dermatology and wow you know your stuff and I so enjoy your explanations!!! You are my new favorite RU-vidr, I just admire you and your research and the informative content so so much! One thing to think of--- I did a lot of research on lash growth serums before finally buying Neulash but one thing that I kept coming across is that often a long term symptom of them is dry eyes and sometimes the dry eyes continues for years and years even after discontinuing the serum. I used mine for about a year and loved the longer lashes but eventually my eyes have just gotten too dry and I decided to stop. I'm so hoping that we can find a different ingredient set for lash growth in the future that doesn't have the chronic dry eye symptoms.

I like my supplements and they include several of yours. I was advised by a previous PA I saw to take CoQ10, red yeast rice and fish oil to help with my cholesterol. After taking them faithfully for 6 months, I had blood work done and my cholesterol went from 230 to 149. I believe. I put my collagen peptides in my coffee every day. I also take Hair Volume - 1 tablet per day. I am beginning to see a huge amount of new hair growth - about 2 inches now. I will see how it is in another 6 months. I do not live near a Costco but find that Vitacost is a really good resource for anyone in the same predicament.

Hi Angie, Several years ago when I was diagnosed inherited high cholesterol (LDL) I did some research on how to bring it down naturally. I incorporated fish oil and Weider Red Yeast Rice Plus (the PLUS is phytosterols and stanols - the stuff in oatmeal and other plants). I also made some dietaryand exercise changes and with these measures my cholesterol was significantly reduced to an acceptable range. My dr was very impressed that I was able to do this naturally. BTW, I get the Weider product at Costco.

I was taking marine peptide collagen for three months. I noticed a significant difference in my hair and nails. Stronger and grew faster than before. My doctor said this isn’t possible because it takes 7 months to grow a new nail completely and that I wouldn’t see strength at the end of my nails. But when I stop taking it, my nail quality went back to weak and peeling. I plan to work this back in to my regimen. Im also curious that you aren’t taking calcium. Over 40, most doctors recommend at least 1000 mg per day. I use Boneup which is supposed to exactly replicate the calcium in our bones and teeth.

I have tried that brand of collagen (not the marine, though) and Great Lakes and I'm a big fan. I'm 26 and have been taking it on and off for 2 years because after a month of using it, I had almost no cellulite on my legs. I got my mom on it at the same time because her hairline was receding, and after a month she had a bunch of new sprouts all along her hairline, and we were shocked. She doesn't use it everyday anymore but her hairline is still full. She also said her knees felt better after a few months of regular use and she rarely complains about them now. Give it a shot! It might help in different ways depending on your body! :)

I have NEVER, ever, been able to grow my own strong nails. And now I finally have beautiful nails. My hair has never looked healthier, but my skin? Oh wow. Never looked better!! I used to get the occasional pimple or two, and have not had any in over three months. My skin is really smooth, too. So whatever is in that pretty pink bottle, I’ll keep taking it. Thanks for all you do!

I love taking Vital Proteins. I’ve read a lot of reviews and it seems like some people don’t see any difference in their appearance but let me tell you! I’m one of the lucky people who absolutely do. My skin looks plumper and firmer and my hair is thicker when I take it consistently. Thankfully it doesn’t contain biotin, which makes me break out in cystic acne when I take it in high doses. Honestly, I didn’t keep it in rotation long enough to try a smaller dose. Anything that causes me cystic acne is a hard pass for me. Thank you for your reviews! I love your channel.

I tried a collagen supplement. I did a lot of research and carefully chose one, which also had lots of great reviews including about the about the taste. I actually did it hoping it could help with my acne and scarring. I didn’t see any difference in anything, skin, joints, healing time, etc. And I really had a hard time taking it because I don’t drink tea or coffee so I’d mix it in orange juice to improve absorption but then I had the extra calories and sugar from juice. And I could taste it in the juice. It was chunky and gluey and gross. So I gave up after I finished the container of it. I’ll be curious what you think.

Angie, you should try any formula with BIO CELL Collagen. It also has Hyalrounic Acid ..which plumps up skin wrinkles FAST. Ive been taking it for about 4 months, but I saw results in less than a week!!! I also take Resveratrol and 1000 mg vitamin C daily along with it. I'm really happy with the results! 👍👍😀 Btw: love your videos! Your skin looks amazing!!

I cannot wait to try the Phytoceramides for my skin (I get so dry/itchy in winter!). I get leg/foot cramps so I take magnesium and it really helps. Thanks once again for your help!

From my experience and research I'm convinced a clean diet is key ...but a little help from supplements has definitely helped me! SO ...sustainably caught marine collagen has smaller molecules (similar to human collagen) and easier to get into our system / easier to digest, contains type 1 collagen for skin and hair...grass fed bovine collagen contains type 1 & 3 collagen for skin hair nails bones joints & gut health, larger molecule than marine so takes a bit more to get into system ...i'm personally taking marine in my morning smoothies/coffee and bovine in the evening with my bone broth tea

Thank you so much for another amazing video. I am taking a hemp seed oil instead of the fish oil because of the mercury and ocean pollution. I have noticed that my eyes look much wither and brighter. Many years ago i tried a collagen supplement, it was very expensive and did not do anything at all. The Now Hyaloronic Acid works wonders for filling my lips and makes my skin feel more plump and hydrated.

Hi Angie, I do use collagen supplement every day. I put it in my coffee. The major effect that I noticed is that I don't get intense leg cramps that I would normally experience when I do spinning. I know that it does not make a difference in my hair or skin, but my cramps are better. Thanks for your information on taking Red grape Seed supplement. I have inherited high cholesterol from my father and would like to try Red Grape Seed & Resveratrol, Move Free and Bausch + Lomb PreserVision into my daily routine. Thanks again.

First off, thanks for a great video! I too was born in 62, take everything you do as I have a hedeitary high cholesterol. I work out daily, eat clean, haven't touched red meat since 2000, and at 5'2" and 90 pounds, the cho was still high! I added policosonal, and it has been the only thing that has helped. Also, check whole foods collegen powder, it contains verisol which you want if you are looking at wrinkle reducing. It is also very cheap and you can get it on Amazon

Hi Angie, like you I workout at home most of the time and rely on DVDs for cardio and strength training. I use Tracy Anderson and old dvds from Cindy Crawford. Do you mind sharing what you use, how often and what is your workout regimen. Being in my later 40s, I cant run or do high intensity workouts anymore but I like to push myself, mostly for muscle definition and not weight loss. Thx, Nicki

What a wonderful video. You look amazing. Thank you so much for the detailed explanations of what you are trying. I am turning 50 this year and I take several of the same ones, but it's nice to hear about what you have tried and your honest thoughts. I am a big believer in collagen. I take the one from Further Food which is bovine collagen. I mix it into my water bottles at night before I go to bed so it's ready for the next day. It kind of helps me to drink all my water because I want to be sure to get my collagen in. It has made a really big difference in my joints and skin. But you might have to give it a little longer than one month to see it. I'll try the phytoceramides. Thanks

It's my understanding, and I could very well be wrong, that fish oil supplies more of what you need than krill does. I've taken vitamins supplements since my 30s. My paternal grandpa went once a week to holistic doctor about 30 miles away. He was big on vitamins. So, when I was older, I started also. My GYN is very pleased with what I take, so I dunno. Works for me. :)

I really hope you see this and respond. When I take Vitamin C my skin weakens; volume loss. To the point that if I take lots of oranges I get same effect. I abused Vitamin C sometime ago, scooping the powder into my mouth several times a day for long. I wish to know what to do to reverse this. Once I take even 1000mg Vitamin C my skin weakens. Dilemma! Way out! Please help. I'm not asking you to diagnose, PLEASE give me pointers. Thank you.

Would love to have you look into Moon Juices Collagen Protect creamer. It’s not collagen but mushrooms that support collagen production in the body. It’s so expensive but I’ve noticed a huge difference in the strength of my nails. I’m unsure whether there’s a difference in my skin though.

I usually ask the pharmacist for recommendations because they know the ingredients and the companies making them. Some supplements don’t digest well or have added ingredients that are so minimal but it increases the cost a lot. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Hi Angie! Question: I noticed you mentioned you watch Dr Dray and in one of her videos she warns against using any skin products with bergamot oil in it as it is a highly phototoxic oil. You use and recommend the Make P:rem sunscreen which contains bergamot oil. Did you know about this ingredient and aren’t concerned, or have you done any reasearch on phototoxic oils in skincare??? Thanks for all your informative videos!

Yes definitely beauty is created and sustained from the inside out. Being a naturopathic doctor x 18 years, I research everything! I am 53, and people think I am in my 30's. When I say my kids are 20 and 22 they are floored:()) I eventually will start my own vids to expound on where to start for anti-aging supplemental care as it IS a big industry with a lot of garbage to weed out. Hi, Angie. I know this video has been up for a while so you may have already figured this out, but if you're still taking the Collagen Peptides, try to buy at Costco if you have one near you. The regular price is about $32 and sale is I believe $24. Big savings! I buy 2-3 when they go on sale so I don't ever have to pay full price.

I've noticed SO much difference in the moisture in my skin after taking the phytoceramides. It's going to be a constant from now on since I live in the desert. Also, if your dog has skin allergies, you should try washing her with dermmagic lemongrass skin rescue shampoo and conditioner. It completely changed my dog's skin (we were previously in and out of the vet all the time because of his infections).
