1. Her mother, Mozambican 2. Her father, Nigerian 3. Her Identity docs, mother stolen identity to become SA citizenship 4. The nation has been scammed 5. She can’t represent me 😅

I think the first thing that raised eyebrows was her name. I've been following the saga since it started over a month ago, people were just confused about her 'unique' name that was unfamiliar. I fully agree with you Olivia, the uproar wouldn't have been this severe if it was a 'Lerato Adetshina' or Nothando Adetshina'. Also let's not forget the Nigerian and Mozambique flags on her social media accounts and no South African flag, that just made people more upset. The last straw that broke the camel's back, was the video when she was surrounded by Nigerian men, people were completely outraged.

My thing is, citizenship or not - this girl is culturally Nigerian. I saw a blog titled: An Igbo Queen for Miss SA, she grew up in a predominantly Nigerian neighborhood in Cape Town, she hosts igwe parties there, she had a Nigerian and Mozambican flags on her Socials profiles, she married a Nigerian man, she speaks only English, she doesn't have a single South African name - this is problematic for the people you want to represent on a global stage. Look at Uncle Waffles for instance, she's not a SA citizen but she is pushing our culture globally and lot of South Africans relate to her and she's more likely to be accepted as a Miss SA.

Hi Olivia. Do you know if Chidimma's parents were married or not? The reason for my question is that if they were not married, there is no way Home Affairs can give a child her father's surname. The other thing is that there is a lot of contradiction between the father, the mother and the child. As things stand, you can't without any reasonable doubt put your head on the block. Another contradiction, if her mother was a South African, she does not need to be naturalized. The alleged Chadimma's father said he only came to SA in 2010, that is 9 years after Chidimma was born. On the other hand, Chadimma said that guy is not her father. He mother remains mum about the whole issue. I rather wait for a full investigation report before saying anything. There is no smoke without fire. Nigerians themselves gave Lydia Balogun tough time back in 2021, simply because she was born in Bretain. Let's wait and see.

Point of correction my dear, as per Home affairs investigations, she has no Birth hospital record. Her mother stole somebody's ID 23yrs ago. He mother is Mozambiquan Not South African Citizen. Her Father is a Nigerian. Any child born from South Africa to non South African citizens, the child is non South African citizens. Chidima is A Nigerian or Mozambiquean. She is Non South African.

SANS have a right to express their concerns in their country. In all essence this is a serious matter as this includes an issue of possible fraud/identity theft. We’re all waiting for the Minister’s full report. It’s unfortunate that the wrong acts of Chidinma’s mom will somehow affect her. Sometimes it helps to be humble so that if things takes a bad turn then people can be able to sympathise with you as a person. Look how this thing ended for her in the pageant. It’s so sad cause things may not be to be easy going forward.

In our true SAn traditions a child belongs to the father but unfortunately fathers of today are deadbeat that's why the SA Citizenship Act added the (one of the parents must be a SAn condition) otherwise some of us traditionalists a surname alone tells a story of who you are.

American citizenship birth right is different from SA citizens law. In SA by being born in SA doesn't give you automatic citizenship. It is by blood one of the parent must be a SA and Chidimma patents are both foreign nationals.

Olivia what is the correct spelling of Chidi's name, you have just added a 3rd spelling I keep getting confused. Some use 2xm others use nm. For me it is was just funny seeing a Nigerian in a SA pageant and my spirit was not agreeing (no hate) unless the answers to her maternal side are given or a confirmation that due process was followed for her citizenship. Identity theft has left many SAns in limbo. We have a govt that sold our country out, we the citizens have to act. It is sad for Chidi, she needs to take a break and sort her citizenship issues out to be able to proceed with a dream.

I don't know if you remember when President Obama won the election his fellow Americans wanted him to share his birth certificate to prove he was really born there. So as humans, we are usually not as accepting and inclusive as we should be. Now with this specific issue, it's sad that Chidima had to go through this in public. One thing I wanted to say Chidima is been here in SA she saw when the other girl was taken out of the peagentry because of the racial coment she once made on social media long time ago. Again Chidima was here in SA i think it was last year or other year when the other girl whose mother is SAn and father is Ugandan was also questionable but mother came out for her child and friends, neighbours and school mates show up for her. Chidima should have cleaned up her social media and take out those flags that were displayed there since she claimed to have a SAn mother, the nigerian father wouldn't be a problem cause there are quite number of women maried to nigerian men. I am not Yoruba, but I will tell you that the election issue of last year in Lagos was from the APC looking for an excuse to rig the elections and most Yorubas did not agree with it. I can also say that there are politicians who are half Yoruba and half Igbo like Governor Ademola Adeleke. Nigerians for the most part do not care where you are from in terms of country or tribe, in fact, there are Africans from different countries living in Nigeria without issues. The only time there is open tribalism or xenophobia in Nigeria is when there are elections or anything political because the politicians use division for their own gain.

I hope by then our Home Affairs would be working effectively, which would give SA a peace of mind about those who would be born in the country so that we don't have these issues when Nigerian sounding name enters Miss SA. Having MISS AFRICA to include all the crowned Misses of all the countries in Africa, and in the diaspora, might condition SAns to the point of getting used to seeing these things in a different light. I am imagining your children, Olivia, once you're naturalised in SA wanting to take part in the pegeant of the country of their birth, and having SAns lashing out as they do, it would not be good. I would like to say that although the name Chidimma was a trigger, because we have issues with Nigerians in this country, but last year we had Melissa Nayilumi. Even though she was born by a South African woman (a Xhosa), because her father was a Uganda it caused a stir. Furthermore, a brouhaha this year was caused by the entrance of Sherry Wang who was of Chinese heritage although she's a SAn. (By the way, Chinese have been into the country since the beginning of 20th century when they were hired for gold mining.) Anyway, that said, I think the time has come (1.) to fix Home Affairs and tighten immigration laws and (2.) have a celebration of AFRICA through this MISS AFRICA. I hope that would start conditioning SA to accept that we have newcomers now who have made SA a home, the same way we the natives, i.e., Bantu, Thwa and Khoi, had accepted the late arrivals, i.e., Europeans, Indians and Malay slaves. Despite the ills that attended that painful period in our history (i.e., colonialism), South African lives have been enriched by the cultural contributions of these latecomers. Exactly the way Nelson Mandela forced on us reconciliation when we did not want to hear of it in 1990s, we need to start accepting these new concepts now. But Home Affairs, I insist, has to play ball... otherwise this project would unravel. PAN AFRICANISM can still be saved, if it's up to SA to save it, seeing that the whole Africa and the diaspora are up in arms about the direction SA has chosen for itself, which she has a full right to take if it so fit. Therefore, if it's up to us, then let's lead the way to an ideal PAN AFRICANISM that would work for everyone.

People run to social media when they are unhappy to vent - all that storm was caused by a congregation of unhappy people, offcourse it is a toxic space to base your life decisions on. Everyone gets roasted there regardless of your nationality. South Africa have about 10 million internet users out of the population of 63 million - chances are, there are 53 million people who have never heard of her - and I would like to believe outside social media she had enough love from people she interacts with enough for her to believe she can represent the country. It is unfortunate that, the people who bashed her are seen as a representative of the general public. If you check the hashtag Chidimma, was tweeted around 8 000 times and you only need about 1000 tweets to trend - and that's an illusion of social media.

I would always wacth your videos and would hear you say that it's difficult to be a South African citizen. I always wondered how or what was the process. This whole story informed me. Apparently, in order to be born a citizen of South Africa, you have to have at least one parent be a South African citizen. If none of the parents are South African citizens, then the child can apply for citizenship when they turn 18. With Chidimma, she WAS a citizen as due to her mother now having found to have committed fraud, Chidimma might now lose her citizenship and might now need to appply, or find a provision in the law. The other part is Chidimma herself. She wasn't seen as South African because it seems she was raised to be Nigerian and not SOuth African. I believ her father only made her know her Nigerian lineage, which resulted in the girl not having an opportunity to assimilate into South African culture. She was born in Soweto, but can't speak Zulu, Setswana, or Sotho or Sepedi. She grew up in Cape Town but can't speak Xhosa nor Afrikaans. Because South Africans love their languages, someone who is born from foreigners AND hasn't bothered learning ANY South African language really took South Africans over the line. So tthey then felt that she didn't represent them at all.

For me we are all Africans and human so for me as long as she was born there she should have been allowed the contest.

I have argued enough about it with those closer to me, I maintained and I still maintain that she is not SAn and it's likely that she was not born there too. And if we may dig deeper we would discover a lot. The girl knows nothing about SA. She should have pulled out of it as soon as SAns started raising eyebrows.
