📚 My Journey with Personal Knowledge Management | From Notecards to Zettelkasten 📚
Hey everyone! In this video, I'm excited to share my journey with a knowledge management system that has significantly transformed how I learn, think, and create.
It all started with the inspiring works of Robert Greene, the author of 48 Laws of Power, and Ryan Holiday, the author of The Obstacle is the Way. These incredible thinkers utilize notecards to capture and organize their insights, and their methods opened my eyes to the power of externalizing knowledge.
However, my journey continued. I delved deeper into the true essence of knowledge management and discovered the Zettelkasten system, a method that ‪@scottscheper‬ explains in great detail. Scott's approach to Zettelkasten has been a game-changer, providing a robust framework for anyone looking to be prolific and insightful based on Niklas Luhmann's system.
🔍 In This Video:
👉How I was first introduced to notecards by Robert Greene and Ryan Holiday
👉The basics of notecard-based knowledge management
👉Transitioning to the Zettelkasten system
Whether you're a student, a writer, a researcher, or someone who loves to learn, this video will provide valuable insights into managing and organizing your knowledge effectively.

You’ll fall in love with the zettelkasten. It’s truly a generative tool. I’d recommend that you look at Kathleen Spracklen’s videos. Since you’re just getting started, she will be really helpful to you. And her numbering system is excellent. Scott’s is unduly complicated. She blurbed the front of Scott’s book but she does things a little more intuitively.

Interested in apologetics? Have you read "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell or "Set Forth Your Case" by Clark Pinnock? Highly recommended. Btw, I recently purchased Scott's book.

Agreed. It almost made this unwatchable. I had to speed it up to 1.5x and try to just focus on the words.

Notation 1000=humanities etc. Does this come from a pre-existing system? If so, what are you using? I get that the A - Z is for bibliographic information. The second group pof cards is totally content related. So the indexing system has to embrace both the bibliographic reference and the content reference.

The system is based on the academic disciplines: Arts and Humanities, Social Science, Natural Sciences, Formal Sciences, and Applied Sciences. These broad areas will encompass any knowledge that we acquire. Wikipedia breaks down the subdisciplines in each. For example, under applied science (5000), it could be business or business ethics, and the numeric-alpha code would be arbitrary, like 5120. Regarding the index, I don't include my bibliographic card information on my index because I cite the source as a shortened footnote at the bottom of the main card in red ink. From there, I know which bib card to pull because I also link all of my sources to Zotero with the same shortened reference as a tag. Let me know if this answers your question.

@@_heresmytake Thanks, I have zotero. I wanted to stay analog if possible. that makes sense. I'll cross reference it with Kathleen Sprackler's system. It's not a factual content project, so my needs are quite specific. But that clarified that aspect and was helpful. Thanks.

Thanks, I just discovered the ZettleKasten system. Your video has been a good introduction. I wouldn't mind more comments on how you started and are using your Zettlekasten.
