With so few models, it’s criminal that they don’t have significant parts available… so not sure how you can give them a thumbs up for service when you keep having to take the car to them? Surely they should collect it.
I have been running a succession of Skoda ICE cars for 15 years from new and never had anything fail and never had to call their assistance service. I do get the impression that people with these very expensive EVs seem to accept these problems as normal and almost acceptable. The recent ICE cars seem as much stuffed with screens and sensors as these electric cars but it all works no hassle. Are Tesla really settled as an established manufacturer yet or is it all still very experimental on a steep learning curve? As I said somewhere else the last Tesla I parked next too both the rear light clusters were chock full of condensation. The things do not exactly ooze quality and look very bland and unexceptional.
You have done very well to have *nothing* fail. I think Skoda have a higher build quality now than VW! I take your point about people accepting faults. This one was from the processor - which AMD make, not Tesla. I've had so many computer issues in the past (not with my new Macbook so far...) that I just shrug my shoulders. As for light cluster condensation, Tesla claim there is a bit of leeway (as other makers do) and then replace them. So far at least Tesla have been much more compliant and speedy with fixing issues than (as an example) Volvo were.
@@justgetatesla I have had good reliability I must say. When I say no hassle that is not exactly true as having so much now on the central screen drives me nuts. My Wife acts as co-pilot when I need to change ventilation as it is like playing a computer game wading around the screen looking for the myriad of buttons and sliders. I think we are entering in to an era of complexity in technology where it is becoming more a hindrance than a help and expensive to boot. I think having a repeater screen behind the wheel and in the driving eye line should be mandatory for speed and navigation. I rarely look at the main screen as it is so distracting.
I've driven quite a few cars without a speedo behind the wheel. You get used to it quickly enough. And I have had a play with a device to add a screen behind the wheel of the Tesla and found it bizarrely distracting.
@@justgetatesla Two questions Ian. 1: How long will you keep this car? 2: Will you be as gung ho with all these expensive problems once the warranty runs out?
I drank coffee at BMW dealership sitting on a nice leather chair for 4 years, while service was free, and then when I had to pay for it, I switched to independent mechanics :)
"The computer was not made by Tesla, is was bought in." Doesn't that apply to most car parts (from all manufacturers)? We are still going to company that sold us the complete product and not to the manufacturer of the part, if something doesn't work. That goes for any car as well as any other product. Them not being responsible for the parts they choose to build into their product seems like a bit of mental gymnastics to me.
@@justgetatesla Not the point. You said, its not Tesla's fault because they bought that part in. They still chose this component. They still chose who produces this component for them. So Even if my laptop is built with components from 10 different companies, i bought it from the brand that put it together and if it doesn't work they are responsible for the whole assembly. (If i change something afterwarts that makes it not work, that's a different story)
I saw a mechanic telling people EVs are the future and they are so simple there's nothing to go wrong with them, at that point I knew it was all a sham
He was right though. Mechanically they are very simple. This failure wasn’t mechanical. Have you stopped using computers because you can get the blue screen of death?
@@justgetatesla a little expensive for a PC and a way more dangerous..those tech BS are useless and prone to break and make a car a disposable product, valid for all products and all type of newest cars..
@@justgetatesla Your lame excuse, 'Tesla don't make the computer', doesn't wash with folks who know the car industry. Rolls Royce don't make 90% (probably) of the cars they sell as Rolls Royces but when they break, you blame the manufacturer ie, RR, not the guy who made the parts who sold them to the middle man who sold them to BMW to fit on a car with a RR badge on it??😂😂😂😂
Electrical systems can have intermittent faults which are very difficult to diagnose. I once had to have a car's entire wiring harness replaced after spending 150% of that cost on prior efforts to diagnose and repair an intermittent fault.
@@justgetatesla If I was using a Windows computer for a mission critical task (all of which are prohibited by the license agreement), then I would cease using any computer running Windows for that purpose. Can you imagine driving a car on a high-speed freeway and the entire control system become nonresponsive because of a blue screen of death?
Hi Ian. At the 7 minute mark when you were standing outside, I saw you squinting again (as has been the case on many sunny videos). I have the same issue, but swapping for a pair of prescription sunglasses with a polarising film cuts down the glare immensely. I'd give you a referral to my optometrist, but he's a bit far away ;-)
It would be interesting to find out if an owner of an EV still has the same EV in fifteen years time. I know some guys who still drive their Ford Escorts, a guy who still drives his Morris Minor. Theres one person who still drives their Austin A30. And that car was made in the 60s. Like to see an EV beat that.
@justgetatesla one of the first vintage electric cars? I have seen one of them. Pity the new EVs won't last as long as not many owners will be able to keep them going. Dont forget the vintage electric cars didn't have computers, and I don't think they ran on lithium batteries.
@@justgetatesla'Rich' in the US purchased an old electric car to have fun with and, guess what?? Yep, it spontaneously combusted in his shop one day😂😂
I "Just Got An Audi", because it just goes and goes, I never have problems with it. I would never get a Tesla after watching how much of a lemon you got.
If you work in a Dealership Workshop, it's not unknown to have a negative viewpoint for the models that Workshop deals with. You only see the problems. Here we have someone who is informing us of these same problems. Ignorance would be bliss as with the vast majority out there who have 'some' problems with their vehicles 'sometimes'.
I had my first Tesla repair intervention today. Apparently not because any fault to Tesla. Just nature, Martens just love the fishoil smell and tast car companies including Tesla, VW Mercedes… keep using. So sorry Ian, in Belgium Tesla comes at home! But both windscreenwipers tube and left back pointing camera cables were chewed through… . not much Tesla could do about that. Ordering my anti Martens kits while I type. Camera already replaced, tube wasn’t forseen yet and anyway a insurance discussion. Most helpful, friendly guy. Even chatted about road-tripping scotland while repairing the Tesla:-)
Always enjoy your videos. As I’ve said in the past I am getting a MYLR in a couple of months and want to do as much research as I can before hand. Your videos (along with others) have helped me do that. Hope you get sorted soon 😉👍🏻
For goodness sake don't waste your money on enhanced Autopilot, it doesn't work fully in the UK and Autopilot is already poor less than beta software. I think the GPS issue is signal related as I and others have the same issue in my MY particularly travelling to Aberdeen. I sometimes loose InTune as well which I suspect needs a lot less data.
My small flicker of enthusiasm for an EV has been extinguished (again!!). One day I'll make a choice, but not today, thank you. I like your style, though. Keep it up.
When I was driving Jaguars and Mercedes whenever the car needed a service or repair. they picked up my car and gave me a loan car for as long as it took to fix any problem. If I had paid £50,000 for a Tesla which has all the problems you describe - I would have insisted they pick up the car, give you a loan car and bring the car back when fixed. Its no good saying its not Teslas fault because they buy in the computer - its part of the car you have paid for. Your time is worth money so driving miles to get it fixed is totally unacceptable.
I feel your pain, I had my model 3 2023 model computer totally die after 5 months, got the tesla black screen and it couldn't re-boot, reset or anything. Tesla had my car in their workshop for 3 weeks. Have it back now but still frustrated that it took so long to fix.
Teslas are an answer to a question nobody asked and your continuous stream of problems highlight the obvious nightmare of ownership. Good luck to you, I think you'll need it.
@@justgetatesla I'm afraid I have disagree as a lot of this 'love' can be put down to a fad. Watching you wrestle and fight that courtesy Model S was frightening. However, you're a fan so I'll shut up and watch your ownership evolve with a lot of interest. Again, I wish you all the best.
My Kia needed a new a whole new battery. What’s interesting is the car was still drivable like yours so at least I did not have to pay for a tow or be stuck on the side of the road.
If you mean the traction battery needed replacing, the car should work with the pack degraded. They replace them if the capacity dips below a certain level, but they should still run fine
I had this with my model Y LR, UK, collected 31/3/23 therefore no USS and no driver assistance or FSD display. The fix was to change from the presently selected language on the touch display to some other language then to select the language needed. (in my case English UK). This effectively provides a restart/refresh of the Tesla OS sorts it’s crossed software wires our and presto - all was good. This would not be the fix for a genuinely failed camera/hardware/computer module but in my case all was then well.
Hi Ian, sounds like you got yourself a quality Tesla Service expert. Some dealerships, like you explained already, would just do the remote suggested replacement 1st. Then after sending you home, let you comeback for the big brain replacement. Hope the big brain replacement permanently resolves the gps and blindness issues. Ps. I have got through my company car lease program, myself since june ‘almost’ exactly the same car. Although mine would be completely blind as it’s one without sensors. Hope you get as a temporary car a model x or s performance, to do some bits on 😎 On other car issues: I talked to a colleague with an id 3 🤔or 4 who’s software is let’s say not at the same level as Tesla’s. A friend and ex colleague just got a Kia Ev 6. Cool looking car to be honest, less space, but he doesn’t need it. It has more real buttons, but quite a bit it’s much more clunky to set everything up. And the car got delivered with a ‘bug’. the back middle seat keeps reporting someone is still on the seat, when shutting down the car and exiting. And this was at delivery of the car, now it in the meantime seems a ‘normal’ error, just to ignore, according to other kia ev 6 drivers he was able to reach. Even worse, but more on the dealership, the lease delivery cost included +/- 250 euros to prepare the delivery of the car. So that included installing the latest kia software. But the kia dealership didn’t do that, and delivered it with a 1 year old software version …. A real shame because kia itself really did listen to their customers and added battery preheating in their satnav, like Tesla has. So he was, let’s say it mildly ‘upset’. But seems they don’t have like Tesla over the air/ over wifi updates 😮. He needed a big enough usb stick to be able to install an update himself… All to say, I’m looking forward to the results of the Tesla services experience and I will compare them my own, and my friends experiences. To be noted, other friends or colleagues also have old Tesla model X or model 3’s or have had a model S, so plenty to compare with, including early adopters experiences. Myself, I just finished my 1st car vacation with a Tesla, 4000 kilometers roadtrip, the tldr is, it was very relax, no range anxiety at all, which was my main concern, just because it’s a Tesla, by the way. I always could rely on Tesla or had a Tesla alternative.
I've had Volvo and BMW. Big cars with expensive dealerships. Things go wrong. That is a given. It's how they treat you when they go wrong, and so far Tesla have been good
Indeed it's how they treat you. But then again the 'quality' icons of the past have lots their appeal as well. In essence I'm a VW guy, but when looking at their or audi or skoda options, I was not impressed to say the leased (no Touran eletric alternative 👀). To be honest, my wife convinced me to go full electric and Telsa, as she wanted the storage space, Nobody else can offer as a Tesla model Y can. So we got a Tesla 🙃😊😉😎. Just get a Tesla, is a slogan I can get behind adding my 4000 km experience 🙂
Just a word to the wise as using a referral didn't work for me. I put down a deposit thinking I could use the code when paying the balance. By then you can't use a code, has to be done from the outset. Correct me if I'm wrong but you need to click on the referral code first. I assumed ( wrongly ) that there would be a box to fill in when buying if that makes sense.
Just had another thought on my cable comment. Do Tesla use cables? Have they used printed wiring in the body metalwork? Not sure if anyone has done that yet.
Mate. No disrespect but you definitely have a lemon there. I can’t believe all the problems your having. Personally I’d bin it and buy a nice quality diesel car. Good luck.
Vectra diesel needed new DPF and DMF. C4 Picasso had various DPF issues which kept failing the vehicle - hard shut down on the motorway once. Volvo S90 had various low voltage battery issues. It’s a car. They all have issues
Old diesel was reliable. New diesel needs increasingly complex things to both boost power and reduce emissions. Hence all the failure points. EV has none of those
@@justgetatesla your absolutely right they all do, maybe I’m just lucky. Your right about high tech diesels though. I drive 71 plate Volvo FM HGV. That’s been problem after problem. Always within the exhaust and AdBlue systems.
Ian, it is known that intermittent faults are the hardest ones to troubleshoot. Still I'm sure they will fix it next time. I hope you get a performance Model 3 as a loaner, as that would make good RU-vid fun...
Me too if I had paid £50,000 for a car which has so many features which don't work and have to keep driving miles to take it back. I wonder who pays for a main computer when the car is out of warranty.
I told you it could well be hardware (as you were the only 1 experiencing it), severel videos ago, you were convinced it wasnt. New conputer may not fix it as it could be a nicked cable, or dodgy connector.
Could it be a cabling issue, with the connections to those camera/gps inputs? Cable looms have been known to move about and chafe somewhere. I’m not saying that has been with Teslas but is not unheard of with other makes.
What they aren’t telling you is the truth that it is the car protesting at your music choice. The car is much more intelligent than we think, AI is here and now!
This is pisses me off with people. Being someone who has been around technology all my life I know and acknowledge how fragile and prone to failures, software bugs etc it is. We start going down a bad road when we start to rely on it too much and even start replacing the abilities of the human brain. Technology should only be a tool to assist not replace. This self drive BS is one of the most stupid and dangerous mistakes ever to be put in a car. You are basically deskilling the driver. Making them lazy. When inevitably the tech fails, you are going have people that can't f-ing drive the vehicle. There is going to be carnage. The other serious concern is that there is nothing that is un-hackable. Military encryption has been hacked. So having a vehicle that can be accessed and controlled remotely at any time is insanely stupid.
My observation is that drivers are already deskilled and lazy. An awful lot of media companies and RU-vidrs make a lot of money documenting how terrible drivers are. Automation adds an extra protection layer - additional cameras and sensors with a computer which see things before we do.
@@justgetatesla Human beings who can actually f-ing drive, because otherwise you shouldn't have a license, it isn't a right, have been driving fine for a long time without killing themselves or anyone else. You are simply making excuses for the same type of morons who walk into lamp posts while staring at their smart phones.
But people killed themselves and other people. In large numbers. Every single day. We’re immune to the carnage because it’s normalised. Google the numbers. You’ll be shocked
@justgetatesla You do realise Tesla is lagging behind competitors with its level 2 automation, with level 5 required to replace human control? It is IMO beyond negligent that Musk calls his system autopilot, amongst his many other misleading and dangerous claims.
It is Teslas fault. To be fair, they are taking ownership[ of the issue but regardless, it is an issue with the car they specified, built, provided to you.
Hi Ian, a very interesting video, I also have a September 22 long range model Y, I have also been losing the GPS navigation on occasion, first started about 3 months ago, but so far the camera’s have been ok, should I be worried Hmmm. I reside in Aberdeen just wondering if I should also contact the Tesla service centre?
There was a software bug affecting GPS. But mine went a little beyond that apparently. I hadn't considered it to be important enough to book a service for as it was intermittent. But as GPS connects onto the same bit of the board as the cameras, it points to a bigger issue!
@@justgetatesla My March 2022 Model Y has run without an issue. I have had to reload the App and reconnect the Bluetooth but that's it. I don't have Premium Connectivity though, I wonder if that is imposing extra load on the computer?
Same car from same batch (MYLR Sep 2022 with parking sensors), also have I intermittent GPS tracking issue. It sometimes think I am about 2 motorway widths away in the field. Please up date us if your problem worsens, I’ll do the same.
@@wyx087 I haven’t had tracking issues, just basically the navigation map disappeared from the display and wouldn’t reload the same as (just get a tesla) trip to Liverpool. I did find a workaround, that was to cancel the navigation and the maps would then reload, then re-enter the destination, not the best practice though when your in an unfamiliar area.
And just like with your Volvo you have to drive to the dealer and come back again. But at Tesla you can buy your own overpriced Starbucks coffee. You have to believe in a Tesla like a religion.
Dude! Tesla by all appearances is an anti-right to repair organization, and has limited aftermarket service & repair options, when there are any at all. Yes, it’s a business model to not spend money on sofas and coffee for customers while they wait for their car, but that doesn’t mean they’re on your side. They are just another dealer, but also the OEM.
Surely the limited aftermarket non-OEM options are because this is new. I can think of several very good independents in the UK who only do EVs. I think the other difference between Tesla and legacy manufacturers is this: Stellantis, Nissan, BMW etc all charge a fortune in unnecessary servicing. Tesla do not.
Just Get A Tesla, think I'll stick to an old car, too expensive and I cannot afford to spend hours waiting for a Computerised car, too much reliance on electronics in modern cars
@@justgetatesla Very True I Traded in my 6 year old Peugeot 208 2016 for a 2006 BMW Z4 2.5i with 36k miles and full service history, which still has more electronics than I would like :) I had the PUG since almost new and just didn't want to buy a new car again, so I went the other way with the idea that I spend the money on keeping an older and more exciting car on the road for as many years as I can. I know the UK Government will eventually try to force me of the road, but hopefully I will be retired then and can either keep the Z4 or go electric with a small city car if I am forced down that route. The PUG was very efficient, but not too much fun :) Don't get me wrong a Tesla would be nice if I had loads of money, but I have worked on cars all my life I understand how to repair the Z4 if needed, but a Tesla, Errm No :) Hope you get your Tesla fixed.
Correct. Considering how much you have paid for these vehicles, I would not expect anything to go wrong, I mean, not one thing. Because my 2016 Volvo V40 is a fraction of the cost and has had nothing, that's right, nothing go wrong with it. I don't spend any time at the garage, I don't need to learn how the car works, it just works, I've got other things to do. Get my point?
Here's the thing, Yes petrol and diesel cars need servicing, if done properly, the car should last a lifetime. Where as with an EV not much can go wrong. Only two things can go wrong with an EV. 1: the battery fails (or blows up) 2: the computer goes. Both is death to the EV. Dont forget the battery has a life span, after that you pay or get rid of your EV. As for computers, they also have a lifespan. Most computers have Around 5 years before they start to glitch. Electrical parts burn out making the computer usless. The only choices are get a new computer fixed in you EV or get rid.
@justgetatesla Wait till they put killswitches in EVs. If you haven't heard of them you should look it up. It will be connected to your computer in the EV. They say its to stop drunk drivers, but the AI in your computer passively,(what ever that means) checks your driving, and if it doesn't like the way you drive, it shuts your car down. It will be like having your nanny in the back seat, don't drive too fast. you're taking both hands off the steering wheel. You're too close to the car in front.. it will be like having a cat, you don't on it, it owns you. There is nothing positive about an EV. Like I say, the petrol or diesel car was never broken, so why try to fix it? Climate change? You really believe EVs is going to fix that? Only in dreams. If anything, its only adding another problem to the environment. EVs are no way as green, as we are told.
@justgetatesla no, all new cars from 2026 are going to be fitted with these killswitches. I know in America they are trying to stop it, but governments, being governments they will get what they want. Think about it. 15-minute cities, 20 mph restrictions in Wales (at the moment), and ULEZ in London (again, at the moment). It's all about control of movement. Heaven forbid there's another lockdown for another virus. It will be easy to stop movement. Just switch off every EV in the area. The only problem would be no control over older cars. But the government will find a way. Maybe older cars won't be able to be insured. So everyone will have to drive an EV, and then the government has got everyone under control. I ask you, how many politicians drive an EV?
*sigh*. This "15 minute cities" thing. Having shops and services and entertainment close to where people live - how on earth is that a bad thing? I live in a village, with shops and takeaways and a library and doctors and two garages. If I want more shops then go to the town 15 minutes away. Why do you want it so that everyone has to drive everywhere for everything? No local shops or services - what a nightmare that would be. Have a Clockwork Orange coloured Tin Foil Hat.
Tesla designed the chips and computers that their cars have, and just to be sure they have two of them. So your car has two brains and both of them have had a hissy fit. This is not supposed to happen for safety reasons when FSD comes is used.
Having two is stupid there needs three otherwise you can't tell which is operating correctly, and which is faulty, also difficult to work out which should be master/primary aka split brain. Having three is common practice for high availability in the server/ computer world. I believe plane autopilot uses 5 or 7 and uses a majority rule scenario to weed out a faulty response.
This guy loves his Tesla milk float yet it's a load of crap why doesn't he wake up and ditch it or like most EV they depreciate so much he will lose a fortune
