As someone who’s built VW air cooled engines, the cost for your ev conversion is similar to building a performance stroker ice lump.

I totally agree!!! EV conversion of a classic is just awesome!!! The smoothnes and reliability of electronic drivetrain just makes more sense for me. There are plenty of cars I would want, as an EV conversion: VW Beetle, Citroën 2CV, DMC DeLorean, Reliant Robin, old Fiat 500, Renault 4, Trabant 500, and many more...

I'm really looking forward to seeing this series progress, I have an old classic I'd like to convert but I haven't a huge budget. This I think will be really useful, thanks Louis 👍

I disagree with the fun you can have with an ev, as I love hearing the sounds, and constantly working on cars. The originality, the engineering and experience; it’s all different. I think electronic “motors” can be cool for those who want to get from a to be more reliably. As for myself, I like the thrills of all that can happen when driving a motor vehicle. Vintage cars are reliable so long as you take care and do the proper maintenance, as all vehicles require, it’s part of owning a car. Love the videos though Louis, very cool to see the process✌️. From one VW owner to another, cheers man.🥂(BTW, I will converting my car to a diesel when my engine/if my engine goes. I love 2.0 diesel haha).

Thanks for the update on the bug, looks to be going along similar lines to the camper, keeping us updated with the spending is a great idea, as it gives us in the UK a run down on DIY build costs.

I totally agree with you Louis that classic cars are more reliable if they are converted to electric. It means that there are no reliability issues if they will be used most of the time.

I love classic cars, but since I was in a head-on collision, I would never consider driving one anymore, I don't want to see them go away, but I also don't think they're safe to drive regularly.

Can’t wait to see how this turns out! What do you think you’ve learned from the voltz wagon van? I know you keep talking about getting by as cheap as you can, but do you think that will run into problems down the road? I agree that you can take a vintage vehicle and convert it to electric. To me it may only slightly take away from the overall feel of that vehicle. But there are some vehicles that I think still warrant the gasoline/petrol engine under the hood/bonnet. Otherwise, some of those classic cars can benefit from the nice torque the electric motors have! Keep up the good work!

Is that petrol dripping out? Scary. Looking forward to seeing the EV conversion. I really enjoy watching old cars being up-cycled to more modern propulsion.

The thing that worries me in converting classic cars to electric is the safety. No airbags, no crush panels, basic seatbelts, poor basic brakes, out of date suspension. No ABS. So please make some effort to improve the safety where you can. Could you weigh the car before the conversion then again after?

One thing I have learned from watching Louis videos is that EV are unreliable so I will stick to gas or diesel powered vehicles.

The biggest disadvantage of converting an old car is that compared to new cars it is not safe at all in case of an accident. Even if you drive carefully, there are always other people who are reckless.

use electrolysis its cheaper and almost nothing to refull if you know how to collect hydrogen, your in business............then put it into a closed system
