@@GarrettNoganAcoustic It did. To be honest, I have found myself, yes even in ministry sharing a “pretty testimony” instead of the horrific life that Jesus delivered me from. The testimony that gives Him true Glory. Hope that makes sense lol. So... yes, it did encourage me much to see your transparency.....and thank you for continuing to share your heart. Also, your videos have helped me so much with picking back up the guitar. I have literally not been away from it since the Lord impressed on my heart to pick it back up. Hey friend! Great questions :) I'll start by saying I'm definitely not a scholar, and this is definitely a a super important conversation that warrants more time and space than the RU-vid comments section! But I'm happy to share some brief thoughts with you here :) First, I look at the Bible. Based on the scholarly criteria of how 'reliable' and 'credible' a source is, the Bible is by far the most reliable historical document we have. That being said, I particularly look to the new testament, the death of Jesus, the resurrection of Jesus, and His returning to the earth for a short while. Again, based on the Bible being the most reliable historical document we have, I take these events to be true. The second thing I often think about is the Big Bang vs. Creationism (God). I think about this specifically with regard to Intelligent Design (or the Teleological Argument), which more or less says that the universe was designed so specifically it must have had a 'Designer' (God). I look at this specifically with regard to DNA and how incredibly insane and unique the human body is made up (the organs, the blood, all of the crazy tiny details). I think that points more to a 'Designer' (God) than it would random chance. The third thing would be my personal testimony of experiencing God in certain situations in my life. And the fourth and kind of 'fun' reason I think about is that I really have nothing to lose by following God. Even if it turns out that I am wrong and there is no God and there is no heaven and no hell. What have I lost? Following God hasn't cost me anything! I still get to enjoy and take part in basically everything that non-believers do. If anything, following God spares me from a lot of self-inflicted, sinful wounds I might incur if I was a non-believer or living in sin (as I was in my young and reckless days) and living by my own set of rules. At the end of the day if God doesn't exist and it was all a lie, I've lived a pretty great life...helping a ton of people, acting honorably (most of the time!), serving others, donating financially to worthy causes, etc. So really I have nothing to lose. BUT if God does exist and heaven and hell do exist and I'm not a believer, then I have everything to lose... What are your thoughts? You mentioned in your post that you were a follower for decades until you realized there was really no good evidence to be following God. I feel like the first two reasons I listed above are pretty reliable pieces of evidence. Yay or nay? And where are you from?

OK so you think the bible is 'reliable' and 'credible'! I was a Christian for decades but had to give it up when I could not longer hold that belief with such poor evidence of such a claim as a god. This poor evidence takes many many forms. One for example was that I grew up on this stuff being told Matt, Mark, Luke and John wrote the bible which is certainly not what we find. The authors are all anonymous and don't claim to be eyewitnesses plus being written at the earliest 50-70 years after that 'end scene' in the book. The rest written 150 + years after this time. Prophecy is just next to useless when you look into this and personal testimony cannot help anyone else. This as just the scraping off the top of the pile why I say I cannot find good reason to think any of it is true. Science has shown evolution is what actually happened and there is no evidence for a global flood. If there was then someone should have told the people living before, during and after it. Not to mention the plant life that would have been killed in the process. We have trees that are older then this so no flood. The exodus also most certainly didn't happen. That many people wandering for 40 years in such a small desert. This desert can be crossed (i.e. the bible's very own start and finish point) in a car in the daylight of one day. Also there is no evidence of that many people living for 40 years in there and there is evidence for known groups living there at this time. The bible is to me, written by Bronze Age man for Bronze Age men. Women in that book are treated like property and that doesn't make me happy. My church was all about women shutting up and letting the men speak in church. I hated that and left as soon as I was old enough. The bible advocates slavery and hideous passages like instructions for marrying your rapist. They don't often bring that gem up on a Sunday morning I can tell you. The new testament is no better I can assure you. I've studied this book fully reading it cover to cover 3 complete times. Once in a bible study group where we went through this several night of the weeks for months. Reading and discussing in detail the meaning with 15-20 of us as a believer. So I am not sure that I am able to have a "desire for Christ" any more. You view that the Teleological Argument - the universe was designed so specifically it must have had a 'Designer' I also this is not what we actually see. However, this 2:36 says it all to me knowing what I know understand about childhood indoctrination and how it effects critical thinking skill later on in life. No disrespect to your family but they set the scene for your belief. Even if you say well we only went to church once a week and said grace before meals. The culture of a god being real soaks in to such young children. I think that you should teach children how to think and not what to think. I suffered from childhood indoctrination and I know what this can do. So I am sorry but do not think the bible is anything other and an old book written by men for men. The Universes does not looked designed to me and therefore no need for a creator. Pascal's wager is just such a poor model to use. The fact that you say it costs you nothing, really nothing? There is time and money for a start then if you have a family and take them there they will go the same way so I don't see this costing nothing. Hope this helps. Stay safe. Many thanks Gray

@@Langstonbain Don't you worry yourself Dwight that is perfectly ok. I'm very happy to have written it. It was rather easy and took no real effort, so please don't be concerned for me one tiny bit. It's very easy to setup speech to text so all that hard work, as you put it, was written by the computer. No finger cramp or tiny blisters at all. Think of it this way, if you are able to do that of course, 'think I mean', does it take much effort for you 'not to believe' in Allah or Brahma? I would imagine not and that is how much effort it takes me not to believe in your god. I would also imagine that we even share the same reasoning for 'not believing'. You may not have sufficient 'good' evidence to believe the claims for 'Allah and Brahma', and guess what? I do not have sufficient 'good' evidence to believe the claims of 'Allah, Brahma and your Jesus' all being actual gods! I do not have enough magical thinking for anyone of these man made deities my friend. May I ask how do you manage all that wishful, magical thinking when you are mumbling about talking to yourself in the name of a Yahweh? Does that make you all tired and need a little lay down?
